Mae fires the T-Gewehr - First anti-tank rifle 

I'm starting to get a flood of comments about how we "faked" our T-gewehr ammo because of claims that it will break your arm. The 13.2 TuF is roughly equivalent to .50 BMG in perceived recoil. The gun has 1" spikes on a solid bipod and is quite heavy. This means, used properly, the recoil is actually quite controllable. I have fired the gun once and Mae has put 5 rounds though one at original load data. It was bedded well into a pile of sandbags. The first shot gave her a nickel sized bruise, the rest likely contributed nothing as she adjusted her posture to better match the high center. I received no marks whatsoever as she had already warned me about how the setup recoiled and where to snug everything in. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-_ovHGvT4f9k.html If you're worried about a non properly emplaced T-gewehr, well, Ian and Michael both shot actual original ammo with just about the worst free stand I could imagine. As with any high recoil firearm I'm sure you could be hurt using it outright foolishly. But a trained rifleman, even unfamiliar with the recoil of this particular gun, shouldn't have a great deal of difficulty. Fatigue would probably kick in about 7 - 10 rounds in though in my estimation due to working the large bolt and the general shock of each shot on the nervous system.

There is something simply majestic about hearing that massive nightstick/bolt opening and closing, not to mention the the damn thing firing.

the recoil bruised my shoulder, the brass shell casing disoriented me as it flew past my face, the smell of sulfur and destruction made me sick. The explosions loud like a bomb gave me a temporary form of PTSD. buck twenty five soaking wet girl firing entire orders of magnitudes more powerful cartridge *smiles*

I really enjoy and appreciate Mae's shooting sequences. She doesn't appear to ever flinch (or develop a flinch, after repeated shots). I'll never forget the video a few years back of her shooting 25 rounds nonstop through a Springfield 1903 Air Service Rifle; even near the end, when she wasn't maintaining a cheekweld (she had understandably taken a beating to her cheekbone) I could still see almost no telegraphing of a flinch! After years of shooting competitively (both precision rifle and pistol), and training/coaching others to shoot, I have to say her lack of perceptible flinch is really impressive!

A girl like that will rock your world, boys. That's the kind of girl I married 45 years ago and still going strong. I love that laugh she gives at the end.

Cut the steel plates in different sizes, play a tune.

That young person is quite astonishing. She is completely unafraid of that artillery piece and, having comprehensively shelled a plate steel target, leans back radiating inner joy! I’m quite sure if I dared to take one shot with that cannon I would be carted off to hospital looking like The Hunchback of Notre Dame.

I wonder how much recoil force this actually puts into your shoulder compared to other weapons with a shoulder breaking reputations like the Boys Anti-Tank Rifle and the PIAT. Then compared to modern .50cal rifles with fancy recoil springs and muzzle breaks.

That was phenomenal!! Awesome job, Mae.. The Anti-tank rifle was a concept of trying to stop armor with a large caliber bullet, much like a magnum, but with more power. Different countries tried this, from World War 1 all the way up to the 1930s. Probably, next to this one the best known one, is the .55 caliber Boys. Looks like you really enjoy your job.

The shot that was shown in slo-mo near the middle of the video…that one looked to have pained Mae a little…judging by the look on her face. I’m not recoil shy, but not my cup of tea shooting one of these early ergonomics-not-well-considered anti-material rifles. Good job Mae. Keep up the good work.

The late Noel Raven had one of these and machined brass and bullets. The range complained of damage to the earth berms so he switched to cast lead and black powder.

Just goes to show how well a modern-designed muzzle brake comes in handy (due to the lack of one on this gun). Imagine shooting a bolt-action Barrett with no brake on it... similar kick I would imagine.
