He overcame near depression (due to arthritis) and lived to astound audiences again. Hoping the Scorsese biopic FINALLY makes it to the screen soon - its been in the works since 2016. Thank You! Maestro Janis.....you had an amazing and impactful 95 years on the planet! Tell Vlad hello out in the universe.....
He was the first concert pianist I had ever heard in person. It was at St. Olaf College in 1948 when I was a Freshman. He played a Liszt Hungarian Dance in the gymnasium there so beautifully , I thought I had died and gone to heaven. Will never forget this magnificent artist and he also resembled Chopin my favorite composer!
Byron Janis. Le Maitre accomplit. Sa disparition laisse un grand vide pour le piano. Sa vision de Chopin et Rachmaninov en particulier est une sublimité absolue. Je vous écouterai toujours. 🙏
I went on a Byron Janis binge last night. I hadn't listened to his stuff in years and forgotten how absolutely amazing his playing is, particularly his profound understanding of Liszt, but also his stunning Rachmaninov 3rd. Certainly, he is one of the absolutely greatest pianists of the 20th century, and it escapes me why he is not more of a household name? He should be right up there with people like Michalangeli.
Since you like Janis so much, maybe you know William Kapell's playing. In his time, he was acknowledged by his peers as America's greatest pianist; that'a still true, today. If you don't know him, you're in for a huge treat.
Admiro su delicada y fina iéterpretacion, muy dificil encontrar y su fácil comunicación, sonido, volumen y gran elegancia.grandioso maestro.UN INMORTAL.
I heard his playing for the first time in Accu Radio, and was curious who Byron Janis is. So I googled and discovered that even at this age and the psoriatic joint setback, he played, i must say, marvelously. I'm a medical doctor-cum-pianist, so I can understand how incapacitating psoriatic arthropathy is to a pianist. For those who criticize his playing, let me ask one question, " can you even live till his age?!" God bless. Regards.
It troubles me on the one hand, this man, who could once play works like Rach3 with ease, his hands are trembling now.. But the music he makes is just as beautiful as it it can be!
