On November 15th, 1864, during the American Civil War, 17-year-old Jasper Thomas was stationed at Point Lookout Lighthouse, Maryland. This stretch of land between the Potomac River and Chesapeake Bay was built upon tragedy and mystery.
Point Lookout was used as a hospital and a prisoner of war camp during this time. For Jasper, the horrors he witnessed there went beyond the travesties happening within the prisoner of war camp.
He claims that there in that fateful place, there was a different horror, one fueled by the despair and death happening around it that sought to torment him beyond repair.
This is Jasper’s story, as told to Commander Ernest Meade, about the events that he says happened to him, during the winter of 1864.
