Zappa wasn't only a great composer, social commentator, and conceptual artist, he was one of the GREATEST (and unfortunately underrated) guitarists of ALL time.

+Kelly14UK Another great solo, and one that's often overlooked, is the one he plays on 'Out To Get You' on the Grand Funk album he produced, Good Singin' Good Playin'! Its a bit of a stunner, beautifully contructed, it moves the thing into a whole new area. Incidentally, the opening section is Zappa, then in the middle, there is a conventional 'average rock guitar solo' section. This bit is Mark Farner. (This is a good time to make a coffee, visit the bathroom, etc.) Zappa then appears again for a blistering conclusion. Its priceless stuff. Zappa was renowned for improvising over a one chord vamp. Personally, I love to hear him soloing through a great sequence, whether its this, Out To Get You or Alien Orifice! Incidently, the Ahoy Stadium Rotterdam '82 version of Alien Orifice is Gods Own Noise!
My brother showed me how the Stone Roses' One Love guitar solo was constructed : all down the same three or four frets from E to e. Anyone who can knock out a guitar solo in front of people gets my respect. Guitar solos take me a million miles away listening to them.Cheers.Andy Thomas

That's two songs with a Jeff Beck reference. I imagine FZ approved of Beck's guitar stylings [his shit is still unique and brilliant] so why did FZ drop Beck's name? I'll bet Jeff could tell us some stories if he wasn't working on those old cars. I miss Frank every day. His music is the best.

Noodles37UK He’s former Turtles lead singer, Howard Kaylan. The other singer, Mark Vollman, (fat guy with bushy long hair and glasses) was also in the Turtles. They were known as Flo and Eddie at this point because they were still under contract to their old record company and, thus, couldn’t release recordings elsewhere under their actual names or some shit like that.
I remembered listening to the vinyl in 76 and a few years later saw the 200 motels midnight show's in northport,NY and on this song,I remember in the movie,it seemed a whole step lower and a bit slower then the vinyl.Even back then I noticed it but the movie is the real mccoy version.future performances and recordings of this song from frank were a very fast version.
Also this was the first full length movie, shot on video, edited then transferred to film for release. Frank ran low on production funds and was unable to get the end he wanted. (Rumored to be a big concert scene using the groupie routine from the filmore East album)
