Genius ways to generate and store solar Energy with Solar Heaters and combining it with solar PV and biofuel heaters to replace Coal and Natural gas for heating of cities and industrial processes! Join me for Part 2 of my talk with the founder and CEO of a world leader in commercial solar thermal collectors/heaters, Absolicon!
And check out Part 1 for more about the tech behind the solar collectors from Absolicon:

So good seeing solutions like these come together, more people need to see this can actually work. I assume you guys have heard about the Simris project where the community of Simris tested island mode, would be really interesting to hear more about that and how something like this could potentially turn off the Diesel generator for good. :) A ton of people assume Dunkelflaute (german word for no sun, no wind) is what kills renewables but is it really...? Don't we have enough mitigations already, just a matter of scaling them up?

Hi! I love microgrid projects and off grid projects! Will definitely look into the Simris project, thank you! Cheers, Johan

Great invention. Could that be combined with the sand battery?

Hi! I don´t know but it is probably more efficient (less energy losses) to store surplus solar heat in water pits and then back to circulation/district heating via pipes then in a sand battery but it is something I will ask Joakim next time he is on the show for sure, you are the second person that have asked this! :) Cheers, Johan

Hi! That is what seasonal storage of water with solar storage is for! :) Helsinki with 1 million pop is looking at using solar heat (summer time) to store it for use during winter time with underground water pits connected to the district heating system that presently burn enormous amounts of coal :) Denmark already have it for 125 comminities! And Europe had 6000 district heating system that could use this and in Sweden every second home is heated with district heating by burning biomass. Cheers, Johan

Utility scale solar engineer with 2 decades under my belt here. This is not new tech and is far more expensive than solar PV at this point. It is better to run heat pumps of PV electricity I think. It may have applications, but it won't be the main energy source for cities as the title suggests, IMO.

You but it in combination with PVs and biofuels solar thermal heaters are already working and can contribute much more with significant heat in district heat systems which their are 6000 of in Europe. In the energy house I've designed with my father I will combine an air to water heat pump with a masonry oven both connected to water floor heating via several large accumulator tanks. The air to water heat pump will be powered by a 17.5 kW solar PV system as much as possible of which 4.4 kW will be wall mounted to get some power during winter time/when roof mounted PVs are covered in snow. That said, in Denmark large solar thermal systems in combination with large underground water pits for seasonal storage is already a vital part of the energy system in 126 communities/cities. It is in combination with other renewables and biofuels the magic happens but most focus on single energy source systems/one size fits all which obviously wont work over 365 days. Cheers, Johan
