What they dont mention in this is Bird after all the surgeries and back injuries still averaged almost a triple double. He was still an all-star.

Bird scored 19 points in this championship game set a record for free throws and played with a fractured thumb that he fractured playing against Arkansas razorbacks. In which he had a monster game. So for bird this was not his best game. He had an amazing block and some great passes but he didn't have a game up to his standards. Bird and magic were the greatest players you watch. Hey, loved your reaction. My favorite part was you pointing out that no one boxes out anymore. One of the reasons I can't watch games anymore. When I played, I did not care about the points as much as rebounding and part of that skill is knowing how to box out. My favorite team growing up was the 76ers with Dr. J and Moses Malone. However, my favorite all time player is Dennis Rodman. He could careless about points but loved rebounding. He holds the record with the most rebounds with zero points. 28 rebounds. (and he blocked out) you can't tell me that that statistic did not help his team to succeed.

I was fortunate enough to grow up just outside Boston in the 80’s, and even got to see Larry play at the old Garden for my 12th birthday.

Thanks for playing this. I grew up in the 40s in the military in the 60s didn’t realize the difficulties in the NBA.

Bird & Magic breathed life into the NBA & paved the way for those that followed. The game evolves, the players evolve. But without those two, they’d probably still be televising playoff games at 11pm. Jordan, Kobe, Jokic, Curry, LeBron & so many other greats, are there because Magic & The Hick from French Lick, put basketball into the American collective, and the Dream Team took it around the world. Praise for them all…..especially Magic & Bird.

Since Bird and Magic retired, the finals viewership according to Nielsen ratings has gone down almost every year - more than 30% in 30 years (1992-2022). Look at the crowds at games in the 80's compared to today. Fans aren't as excited as they used to be. In my opinion, the NBA needed to make foul rule changes because of the injuries but they took it too far and now we have a lackluster, no defense game that just isn't very compelling. It doesn't help that players today follow the money or their friends so if you do have a favorite player on your city's team you don't know how long he will be there so your loyalty level (and theirs) isn't as great.

i tell this everytime, it was not Jordan that didnt want isiah on the dream team, it was magic and bird! cause of these remarks he made and the bad boy pistons playing dirty basketball! jordan said it himself: "oh no, that came from higher up" when asked if he was the one who didnt wanted isiah on the dream team! well, whos higher up than jordan on that dream team and who assembled it?
