This era will not age well for the next generations. Luka and Jokic are historically great players. Yet, because they are slow and bad-bodied, the generation that doesn't see them play live will not appreciate them, and generation of the era as a whole.
@@onidtubes are u slow? U defending magic when magic thought he could beat Mike. So my comment still holds true. U just made yourself sound extra goofy 🤪
I don't know what Shannon Sharpe is talking about. Today's players are not as skilled as past players, and it shows up big time in the playoffs. Anthony Edwards was lost in the playoffs at times he didn't even know where he was at. And that statement about better coaches now, Who! Pat Riley was one of the greatest coaches of this era, as well as Phil Jackson, and they have the records to back it up.

@@RJLKMRD when I say student of the game I mean knowing the history of the game and its players. Hakeem is one of the most skilled players and the most skilled Big man I’ve ever seen. There was more than just MJ even beyond The Dream. But He said he didn’t watch them play. Well there is footage out there
People showing slides of elites. Brad Daugherty was skilled. Vin Baker was skilled. Danny Manning was skilled. Ron harper was skilled. Derrick McKey was skilled. Rod Strickland was skilled. Larry Johnson was skilled. Mitch Richmond was skilled. Eddie Jones was skilled. Rik Smits was skilled. Michael Adams was skilled. One thing this young ignorant cats don't tell is that the players of the 90's and 80's showed skills for 77 to 82 games, season after season. PLUS ...Most of these today's "skilled" players show up for 55 games per season, before missing games for no reason.
I’ve noticed that when people talk about “Skilled”, they NEVER mention them on defense. I could’ve sworn that was part of the game. These players today may be offensively skilled. But on defense, they’re garbage.
Anthony Edwards admitted in a recent interview with Kevin Durant that he didn't even watch basketball as a kid or even a teenager. The only player he did watch when he got older was KD. So if he barely watched basketball as a kid in the 2010's, there's no shot he knows anything about what the league was like in the 20th century. All he knows about the NBA before the year 2000 was Jordan was the best and everyone else apparently was trash. Extremely ignorant statement 😂
The only old head that keeps it real is Larry Bird. He even went out of his way saying most of the players today are way more skillful and talented than his generation.
PLEASE bring back the old rule..bring back the hand checking lets see if they can still dribble around? Bring back the physicality of the game so we can see the difference? Its so easy to show off or do some exhibition when there is no defense right? That's why it's so easy for them to say there were no skills back then because of that.
@@KingD0 None of these two guards except for Edwards, have Drexler’s athleticism. The 90’s had the best athletes in NBA history. The 80’s going into the 90’s had the best athletes. No one today is on Dominique’s level athletically, not Shawn Kemp, nor Jordan, nor Spud Webb or Robert Pack or Kevin Johnson…. No big today was as athletic as a David Robinson or a young Hakeem or a young Patrick Ewing and definitely not Shaq. I don’t know where these youngstas get this nonsense from about this era.
Its weird because this is a basketball issue. You never really hear young football players dissing an eli or even vick, Chad Pennington. The NFL is more of a brotherhood sport where the NBA currently is like Instagram
They for some odd reason think they are better players than the ones before and thats just now how it works. THey think because htey have to do a million moves into a step back then a pump fake into a step through thats a travel is them being more skilled. When the difference is they are just allowed to do it. Rules use to work differently now they care so much about revenue they let alot go. They werent as many people shooting 3's ebcause 3's was still a fairly new concept for a shot. Its not that they couldnt shoot its just they used the data and math they had at the time and it was you should work for the highest percentage shot.
That is why Olajuwon is one of the most versatile big men all-time in history. We can't ignore his post play on both ends of the court as well as coming up with turnovers, and it is proof that he's 10th all-time in career steals.
Y’all do realize Ant is 22 years old, he wasn’t even alive to see Mike play. This is one you just laugh off and say “ok” just like I do when my daughter tells me she’s moving out whenever she gets mad🤣
Facts!!! In fact if Ja Morant hadn't got into trouble, we wouldn't even being hearing about no Ant Man. Side-bar Ant Man is the weakest of the Avengers next to Hawk Eye.
The skill level elevated now because of how nba rules have changed. Players can do more circus move now because the defenders can no longer touch them.
If guys play fewer games now than they did in the past with the load management, how are they more skilled? Michael Jordan had NINE seasons where he played ALL 82 regular season games! How many NBA players today play all 82 games in a season?
@@HansLotap i would not even say elevated but more on adapted. Mj, vince carter, shaen kemp etc.. did more acrbatic shots than ant edwards so i will not even dare compare whos doing more circus moves.
I agree. This show and others put them so high on a daily that once an old head legend says some they take that take . Oh now its a conversation. What?
@@8ballP We know it's something but let's be real. No one was having this Mj comparison about Ant even last year or since the got drafted into the league. All of a sudden you win two series(albeit he played well) and you're the next MJ? Giannis, Lebron,Curry,Jokic, all of them have GOT multiple MVPs and a ring and they STILL wouldn't make that statement. That's doing a disservice to all the great players who played in MJ's era.
Definitely more athletic? There are no Jordan’s today… there are no Shawn Kemps today… there are no Robert Packs today… there are no Clyde Drexlers today… there are no Shaq’s today… there are definitely no Dominique Wilkin’s today… Zion is supposed to be the new Charles Barkley but he can’t stay on the court. @@Dbo_Sports There's like 30-40 guys in the league that can jump like that these days lmao. A free throw line dunk is too basic now, half the league can do that.
@@sportz97 Because the NBA is soft. Patrick Ewing won 3 h.s state championships in Massachusetts he was the number 1 recruit entering college and had 1 college championship in 3 college finals appearances at Georgetown and lost in the NBA finals 2, making it to the Eastern finals 4 times.
Right! Ant ain't on Patrick Ewing's level. Plus, Magic said you don't get to talk about how skilled we were or what we accomplished when you haven't won anything in your entire basketball career! I don't know if Anthony Edwards won a championship in High School, and quite frankly I don't care. Researching his HS resume isn't even worth the effort because it still pales in comparison to many of the greats he so effortlessly disrespected!
Magic can talk this talk. 4yrs in, he won 2 Titles & 2 Finals MVPs. Magic knows the game has evolved & its players but you can’t disrespect the legends but attacking their skill
Easy for ant to score when no one allowed to guard him. When magic won, he would kill you with passing or shooting. No one could handle magic. Jordan took years to mature. Ant man not even close to magic right now.
Magic spoke facts. Ant ain’t must’ve never heard of guys like Bird, Hakeem, Kareem, Robinson, Clyde, McHale, both Malones, Penny, IT, Worthy, Grant Hill before the injuries, Shaq, Dumars, Ewing etc
Don’t forget the all time Assists and Steals leader, John Stockton. Or….. and they’ll identify with this in today’s league where all they do is shoot 3’s….. Reggie Miller.
@bigc2626 Right but jordans era was the 90s. Grant hill was only a rookie and sophomore when jordan was winning chips already. Grant hill was basically someone whos prime was going to be from 99-2000s had he not had his injuries.
@@chucky36 Kobe might not have "arrived" into who we know him as today until about 2000, but by his 2nd season in 97-98, he was an all-star, an NBA dunk champion, and widely drawing comparisons to MJ. He was on "the map" before Vince even entered the league.
What about David Robinson. A Hall of Fame center who had handles, run the fast brake w/ or without the ball, and is an all time great defender. Any trippin but they trippin too. Never hear his name mentioned when the Greats are brought up
I went to see Ant play his senior year in high school, he came down here to Houston for a tournament and I knew then he'd be a 1st overall NBA pick. But his youth is showing again, and Magic rightfully put him in his place. Pump ya brakes young grasshopper... 👋 Magic won championships on every level in a 4 year span: high school state title as a senior, then an NCAA title as a sophomore, and an NBA title as a rookie. While being a MAJOR catalyst in all title runs. So Ant need to hush when greatness is talking. 😬🤐
Level of skill….yall old heads get too defensive. Before MJ came around NO ONE had an all around skill set. Players dont look at Magic for his dribbling, shooting, or nothing else but his playmaking/passing. Lets be honest too, the league in total…you take away Bird, MJ, Kareem, etc. The league would be sorry! Now sure Magic and showtime won but look at the competition. Now, everyone can shoot, everyone can dribble, etc. Thats actual skill when everyone in the league has that skill level and thats your daily competition. Now, Ant chose the wrong words BUT i do agree…If he cant say it properly then he shouldn’t say anything. Its a 50/50 everyone. But lets also be honest here too!
@@hectoronskie My man. Skill level has actually gone down, other than shooting. Shannon Sharp is not that bright. There's no evolution in 40 years, if at all. The players are not better now. @hectoronskie wrong bro, just wrong. You know Magic could play every position right? Even played the title-clinching game at center during the Finals his rookie year.
To Antman, silence is golden. Also, to Shannon Sharpe, yes, the young guys are very skilled now, but they are suppose to be. We are suppose to keep evolving and get better. But there was a foundation.
