Finals in the 70s and 80s weren't unusual. @salty point is that the defense here is absolutely garbage and people pretend it was elite. I'd also dig 80s and mid 90s bball! Solid and exciting basketball! But...I don't know if I agree with you that today's NBA is more skilled, especially when it's less physical, there's less hussle and over much slower speed, FAR more frequent foul calls, more coddling from coaching and staff, and frequent infractions such as travelling, palming the ball, moving picks, illegal screens, over the back, and a lot more showboating for a more mediocre performance. Today's ball is just hard for me to get into, you know? I still like individual players and wish them the best, but I just think there's no comparison to more old school, better fundamentals, more physical and fast paced, and far less coddled and referee decided games.

He made everyone he played with better. Robert Parrish overstated saying, "These 5000 points I got because of Larry." Bird could have had better personal numbers. How do you account for leading his team in assists AND scoring. You'd hear it from announcersteammatrs and opponents. And the pace? Look at videos and your neck feels like you're at a tennis match .

Both players made everyone around them better, that's why they're both considered at LEAST top 10 all timers but more realistically top 5 all timers.
