There are over 500 officially released spells in D&D and without a doubt, Magic Mouth is one of my favorites. Wielded in the right hands, it can be an amazing tool to help the party, as well as create chaos too! And in this D&D guide, I give you my tips and tricks for getting the most out of this spell!

One of my absolute favorites, the possibilities of what is essentially coding language is limitless. It’s also a fantastic way to produce your own music with a full one-person band as a Bard.

What's crazy to me that the rules are basically written in it's own coding language too, where different words mean very specific things and only when placed in the correct way does it actually mean anything mechanically, otherwise it's just flavor, or you explaining what your code does in normal speak

Fun fact about the transmutation wizard: you don’t even really need to consider the gold cost thing, so long as you can find enough wood. With your second-level ability, you can transmute said wood into silver, and I don’t know how much a cubic foot of silver is worth but it’s surely enough to cover the cost of a few castings of the mouth.

But the issue is, how much jade dust you can get with the ability. You don't need silver, just lots of jade. If all we needed was silver this would be a done deal with the transmuter ability

@@smilesschemes but with that and the 14th level ability, you can turn wood->silver->jade, and have as much as you like.

You can pick this spell for Artificer's spell-storing item and get 2*int free uses per day. They also have access to alter self, which you can cast to change your voice

Get a kenku to listen to an Yrthak's sonic lance attack. Have the kenku put 10 magic mouths on a shield that replicate the sound made by an yrthak's sonic lance attack. Aim the shield at a target with 30 feet and say the trigger word. Roll 60d6 for damage ( thunder )

Unfortunately with Magic Mouth, simply mimicking sounds to do thunder damage can't be done with it. However, and big however here... if in your campaign setting there was a sound, or a word so horrid that anyone who heard it would take damage, I feel like that is something that MAYBE magic mouth might be able to duplicate and weaponize.

I had a bard who was messing with the local count. He cast a number of magic mouth spells around the city that would talk crap about the count whenever someone mentioned him. It was part of a larger propaganda campaign, but his followers were afraid to mention his name outside the castle.

There's a 4th way to get unlimited casts of magic mouth: mark of scribing gnomes get to cast it for free once per long rest :3

I just had a dnd session tonight and had just put magic mouths on each piece of armor from each angle, his name is figglefritzz the firstborn, a artillerist custom lineage focused on defense so the magic mount alarm system is insane. Got ambushed by 4 vampires (were level 6) my dm said to our ranger on watch at night alright that hits you take 27 slashing (nat 20) then I said wait doesn’t my magic mouth go off before this? And the dm goes “OH FUCK” so crit negated, I casted sanctuary, my DC is 17😂 and we have 3 archers, so I used a flamethrower yes it works without breaking sanctuary I checked with DM, then just ran around vortex warping Allie’s when vampires got tired of attacking me so my team took 0 damage and the rounds they couldn’t be hit I casted blade ward. I have a 21 flat AC and have mithral armor plus shield, I didn’t get hit. Magic mouth+sanctuary=fucking insane

Wow, that's an awesome combo. Using it for anti-ambush strategies is a great idea! Put it on your armor or on something nearby and never get ambushed again

Seriously love your content man, been subbed for about 6 months I believe now and always look forward to seeing your new stuff, I’ve been debating on starting a channel for dnd and watching you makes me want to so badly but I don’t think I could come up with anything half as good as you man

Thank you so much! This is honestly the most heartfelt comment I've ever gotten. And if you're debating about starting a channel you 100% should. And it's for the comments like this that really makes it feel worthwhile. Knowing that I'm giving players and gms fun ideas to try in their own games is what I love the most about this channel. When I first started, I didn't have much of a plan honestly, I just started talking about the things in dnd that I thought were really fun and sometimes, that's all you need. I hope that this helps a little

An idea I had with Magic mouth . is that it should theoretically be able to synergize with other spells Or cantrips That only require verbal components Or alter your voice. Like vicious mockery. Or Thamaturgy. Thamaturgy Is a cantrip and As a one of its features allows you to essentially triple the volume of your voice at will. So you can use it for the security functions. that the magic mouth spell has To make a ridiculously loud alarm. Another example Is You can combine magic mouth with vicious mockery Let's say you put this magic mouth on your weapon. So that whenever you hit an enemy with it. the Magic mouth activates And says the vicious mockery Imbued insult. and deals them a extra 1D4 psychic damage and gives them disadvantage on their next attack.

I wish it did this and honestly, using it for cantrips doesn't seem that overpowered. But still, between RAI and RAW, I don't think Magic Mouth can use/store the effects of other spells

@@smilesschemes There's nothing that explicitly specifies it can't, at least in the 5 edition version. So theoretically, as long as a verbal component is the only requirement. or if the spell alters your voice in some way, It should work. theoretically anyway. If we are talking rules is written at least for 5th edition. even then, it would depend on the Dm.

Magic mouth itself shouldn't be able to cast spells like viscous mockery because viscous mockery isn't verbal only- it also comes with enchantments. HOWEVER, thaumaturgy does not state it comes with enchantments. It simply states "your voice booms up to three times as loud as normal." Since magic mouth "recites the message in your voice and at the same volume you spoke," I think it's safe to say thaumaturgy works. I came up with a horribly hilarious idea with this. Step 1, find a bunch of rocks or small object. Step 2, apply magic mouth on each of them. Step 3, scream into all of them with thaumaturgy enabled as loud as you can. Step 4, set their condition to anything you want. 100 magic mouths screaming at 3x the volume a human can all at once. Should at least inflict deafen, right?

@@honkface8751 I didn't know that about vicious mockery. As far as my understanding went, you only really required verbal components in order to use it, so I figured it would be fine for magic mouth. But the creation of what are essentially fantasy Sonic grenades Is possible From what you're saying and You would only really need one of those to deafen someone. For reference, the average amount of Decibels. You can expect just from some one screaming is about 85 decibels. Which coincidentally is the same amount of As the lowest amount of decibels that can cause hearing damage with prolonged exposure. To my knowledge. Now we times 85 by 3 which results in 255 Decibels, which should be more than enough to cause permanent Hearing loss. Since 110 decibels. And above can cause near instantaneous hearing loss. So, like I said earlier, if those. fantasy Sonic grenades. you only really need one to mess up somebody's hearing.
