Magic Review - MANA by Lewis Leval & the 1914 

I love Louis’ stuff. His demeanour in is videos is so calming. Sometimes I watch his stuff just to watch how he performs.

I love Lewis Le Val. He is a wonderful thinker, wonderful creator and if I were given an opportunity to sit and have coffee and conversation for a couple of hours with any living magician today, he’d be my choice without having to even think about it. The man is wise beyond his years and when you talk about being able to properly perform the simple things where it makes an impact on your audience, (and to me, that’s what it’s about - not about ‘fooling’ anyone), Lewis is a master at it. Every time Lewis Le Val comes out with something new, I sit up and take notice, (and almost always purchase it without hesitation). Thanks for the review. I was not aware of this download being available.

With mentalism especially, style is so important. Lewis has loads of it.

Thanks David. I’ve used Mana many times in close-up and small parlor settings. An old guy (me) can handle the moves with ease! The mechanics are actually simple but when hands get arthritic its a relief to be able to perform without looking like you have ten thumbs. This effect is presented and explained very effectively by Mr. Le Val. He is a consistently good, patient, and detailed teacher and I’ve benefited from many of his other offerings. Effects such as Mana and Banacek's version of Mental Epic have caused me reach for blank cards as an effective conduit to powerful mentalism.

I perform this effect a lot and it gets amazing reactions. The routine is very modular and its a Great way to hand out your business card.

Thank you for reviewing this. I love (not only) this one by Lewis. To me the point of Lewis’ mentalism as I see it, is not to fool anyone but to share an experience. Fooling seems a snobbish sport amongst “magicians” and “mentalists” which misses the point in my understanding of magic completely. Fooling can be fun - as pranking can be. But this has nothing to do with magic but something with showing off. So when you want to create a magical moment for someone- Mana can help in a simple yet meaningful and memorable way.

On the topic of simple tricks being fooling. I think a lot of time we, as magicians, get it in our head that the trick is super obvious because we know how it's done. But in reality most spectators knowledge of magic is near close to zero and they don't know what to look for to not be fooled. An example I was thinking of recently is the Quantum deck, the method seems obvious from our perspective but a layperson handling that deck like they would their regular playing cards won't suspect a thing because they don't know what they're feeling, to them it's just regular blank cards. Loved the review David!
