I could imagine the price of desires killing through Algiz or Book of Shadows, but Mmush seems to even partially ignore white fireplaces. That makes me wonder if you would die by magic skin while under the effect of big boy-ification.
I don't feel like this item is worth the risk, but I'm still glad it exists because it feels so creepy. The way it slowly kills you and keeps coming back as you use it more. It's very faithful to the tale that inspired it too.
It can also be a really good metaphor for drug abuse. You use it once and it's nice (free item). Then you try to quit because you realize it's damaging you(broken heart), but then, it's always there... The temptation for more... Always showing up where you don't want it. You could use it any time, and you just might. (I saw this somewhere else so not my own idea, but it's a really good one)
This item is based on a story from "Honore de Balzac", in which the skin grants wishes for the owner, but it reduces in size as well it reduces the vital energy form the owner for each wish granted. And even the owner tries to get rid of it, but the skin always comes back... In the beggining it looks like a gift....but at the end you realize its more of a curse.... ....Unless you are lost Jacob
@@paulakroy2635 Ohh I mean more then just 12 items. First off you actually need to obtain it early enough to even get 12 uses out of this item. On top since its lost there are fewer ways to have broken battery builds so even that is rare. Its bad enough that tainted lost can not have any protective items besides psy fly for some reason. So having 1 busted item for this character would actually be a nice thing to have. Besides its harder to get then sacred heart.
@@rayzuke1232 Sacred heart is pretty easy for tainted Lost to get. It's still pretty decent for the lost acting like a mystery gift item. On your 2nd point Tainted Lost having only offense items makes him really fun and getting defensive items would ruin the whole point.
On a broken run with a way to generate infinite charges anywhere, i picked up and used magic skin a few times, school bag and spindown dice, the run is essentially an infinite loop because you can keep getting R Keys by using spindown on magic skin enough times.
Oh, someone finally found a way to get infinite R keys! Good work. Schoolbag + Spindown Dice + a few magic skin uses = wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
@@rayzuke1232 Poor health management on my part back in the day made me want nothing to do with broken hearts, plus i don't think there was any way to remove them in the mod
It's a very cool item, though personally I wish/hope Broken Hearts could be better integrated into the game as a whole. Would like to see certain rare items like The Body cure Broken Hearts for example, or perhaps sleeping in a Bed could also cure a single Broken Heart. On a barely related note, IMO Heartbreak should be a "free" item from Devil Deals instead of costing a heart container. _(with the deal displayed as x3 broken hearts)_ The health cost is integrated into the item and is IMO more severe than a regular Devil Deal's cost, so I really don't see why it needs to _also_ cost a heart container.
Because it is a deal with the devil, all devil items in his room cost heart containers. Magic skin does not spawn in there, it replaces one of the items that already had some hearts-cost.
@@bazboyd44 exactly. Personally, i have no idea why he even decided to nerf items in repentance. I thought nobody plays Isaac for hardcore. Like, imo everyone just want to find some interesting combo and break the game.
A fun way to break the red redemption challenge (how I did it) is to kill Jacob after 20 rooms and become lost.. (this stops further jacobs from spawning).. then buy Magic Skin from the floor 1 shop. Then use the red key to open the entire floor until you find a devil/angel room and use it 12 times... boy was that an easy run lol.
I'd like this item more of it didn't replace future items because I've had runs where I've used it 3 times and had strings of 4 items be replaced by magic skin.
@@iamrepairmanman Spice is better though because it gives HP up on the first 2 uses, damage up, slows enemy bullets, and instead of adding broken hearts, on the 3rd and later use, it removes 1 heart. Magic skin is a permanent HP down and its benefits are far from consistent.
This item is basically both cursed and useful. I mean, it can be used multiple times, but it would start hunting you if you didn't used it until it disappear
Heres a fun thing to do Get continuum + some kind of a tear multiplier (Third eye,The wiz etc.) + a bunch of range items Then go into a crawlspace and start shooting up
Just like a lot of new trinkets don't work with Mom's box, and a lot of actives don't do anything with Car battery, I assume that the same applies here, right? As you only focused on the broken hearts mechanics (which is the most interesting one, sure) I suppose that Magic Skin is unaffected by Car Battery, or that it generates 2 items at the cost of 2 heart containers, and that "? Card" also removes heart containers... I'm trying to think of items/consumables to cheese Magic Skin, but nothing useful comes to mind
Once in the Aprils Fool challenge I found 3 magic skins in a single devil room despite not having unlocked it. I think my active item must have had the effect of Magic Skin
I think this item would be way more fun if after activating you had a 60% of it appearing, and each time you use it it has a 10% less chance of appearing. That way it makes you use it more times if you don't want to be weaker
From my perspective, magic skin sucks in a normal run unless you have the right conditions, or if you are tainted Jacob and you find an invincibility item. So the only way to make magic skin worth the downsides is if you are tainted Jacob and you find an invincibility item before you use magic skin. Or if you are in a seeded run with invincibility and a confessional. But if you are super super lucky as tainted Jacob and you play your cards right, you can milk the shit out of it. But if you’re not in those three niche conditions, it isn’t that great because you’ll have your HP clogged with broken hearts and your items will be replaced with useless crap(the extra magic skins)
So it permanently steals max health for a single item and then has a chance to ruin other item spawns, this just seems like a really bad item. I don't know how common confessionals are but this just doesn't seem worth it.
Same, maybe it's the feeling that it's always haunting you and even if you throw it away, it finds its way back to you. You can never get rid of this curse. There is no escape.
The idea of the item is absolutely awesome, but just THINKING about it and SEEING it on like 4 pedestals later in the game is just run ruining, most of the time i need health and i get this magic skin
@@sportakus3 on platinum god it says ''Magic Skin will continue to appear after finding it once if you are not still holding it - the chance for it to replace an item is 1 ÷ (12 - number of times used) up to a maximum of 50%''. so if you encounter it, and you arent holding it, it will continue to appear, but rarely since you didnt use it. i can speak for experience because on void runs ive seen it many times but haven't used it once
I tested the case where i encounter the item but just ignore it and walk away (no picking up, no use). And for the rest of the run, it did not reappear/replace any other item. So it is likely that you have to use it at least once to make it reappear in the future.
I dont like this item. The fact that it replaces other items with more magic skin, that does nothing is the downer for me. I lose health pernamently to get an extra item, just so I can find an item in the item room that does the same thing. The only worthy use I can find is with lost, tainted lost and tainted Jacob, since its just free items.
Could you make some sort of video in which you explain some little thing ? I got the game a year ago , although I can make only one good run , after which I’m defeated in 30 runs in a row . Yeah I just asked someone to explain me the game because I’m bad at it , after I’ve unlocked it lives (I did it , so I should have done that earlier)
4 out of like, what, 30 items at 1:10? I kept seeing the damn thing every item room, shop, etc and I only used it 3x. Hate this item. Never using it again.
Try this combination: Crickets Body + Brimstone + Tiny planet + Monstro's lung + Pop! + Lump of coal for damage it Shreds every room instantly. Works better in Greed/Greedier. All waves finished in 3 seconds or less. Including bosses
I was hoping to see how it reappears during the run in all treasure rooms, just like you did in antibirth. Also does the dream catcher show a normal item or magic skin in treasure rooms?
Yeah, I guess they'll wait till it's fully completed. Having half of it being unimplemented AND THEN redoing the vid for all the other ones ain't worth it.
That depends on what you mean exactly. If you happen to remove a coin heart somehow, it can be regained later with an HP up. Broken coin hearts, however, can only be removed in certain ways. Like the confessional show in the video
Take it to a room with a desirable item pool like the angel/secret room pool for high odds of something bonkers. 1-3 broken hearts arnt a massive deal usually. On specifically Lost/Tainted Lost/Tainted Jacob this item is just free stuff from any pool you want.
Yeah lmao, free items is kinda trash as an upside anyways because of Pandora's Box and Mystery Gift + Car Battery doing the same thing but better This item is pure trash unless you play as the worst characters in the game.
go alt path and angel deals, you can always take two items from those as Jacob and esau if they pick the item at the same time, so options and golden options are very very good with them
