Magician reacts to Eric Chien perform close-up magic tricks with playing cards, coins, and sleight of hand for Penn and Teller on their show Penn & Teller Fool Us 2021. Eric Chien performs his amazing Ribbon Act magic tricks that helped him become a FISM winner. Can Eric win fool us and be a fooler winner / Fool Us Winner? This video shows the reaction of someone familiar with magic so you can see how someone in this field feels about the performance! Some of the best magic I’ve ever seen. Shin Lim and Eric Chien have both pushed the boundary for technically difficult and beautiful sleight of hand magic. This is Fool Us Season 7 extension 2021.

--- Camera / Recording Equipment ---
** I personally use these items below for filming my videos!
📷 My Main Camera (fast autofocus): amzn.to/2MwhPEA
🎥 Lens for "talking to the camera" (great bokeh): amzn.to/2MtgAWQ
💡 Powerful Light (helps video quality): amzn.to/2QOTFcw
👍 Soft Box (for that nice soft light on your face): amzn.to/2NriW99
🎙 Microphone with arm: amzn.to/33xgV3x
Extra equipment
🔵 Tripod for camera: amzn.to/2U1O8Ri
🔵 Light Stand: amzn.to/3aawnoM
This light stand is kinda not sturdy enough because the light and soft box are so large; the whole thing can tip over easily. But it's what I use! 😆 Or you can perhaps find another light stand that is rated to hold more weight. Or just put something heavy (like sandbags) onto the bottom to lower the center of gravity.

Eric is ALWAYS a pleasure to watch. When was this made? I haven't watched a TV in over 8yrs-so have no idea. Following FU videos on YT, but don't catch every single one there either, so I'm lost. But this was THE best video I've ever seen on the internet for magic ever, if you ask me. Such art, when it's respectfully done that way. Putting it on FU(?), brilliant. 😊 Thanks Jason! I'd like to see more magician interviews. They don't have to be long, just like a behind the scenes chat on the trick they performed on Fool Us or their inspirations or anything really. Doesn't have to be long. Especially the European Magicians which we may not be as familiar with. Once the world turns back to "normal" you could even do a travel vlog to meet and/or see some of their full shows. Pick the ones that are accessible and interest you, it doesn't just have to be the winners.

I think people forget that, by receiving a trophy, they also go to Vegas to perform on stage. Of course he gets a trophy, not just because he is amazing or fooled them, but because he will call in an audience when he gets there. Penn and Teller are able to do these things, help growing magicians, because they can afford to. They are amazing guys, but retirement is knocking, can't tell me they aren't looking for replacements, so they can enjoy what they have achieved and hand things over slowly.

i don't think they were fooled because they said they studied it intensely, which means they must have seen the reveals on google and youtube at minimum. they would piece everything together themselves. there is no way youtubers can replicate eric's act, and penn and teller still has no clue after studying it intensely. imo, they pretended to be fooled to give him the trophy. i remember there was another magician who used a lot of tricks in one performance, and penn and teller didn't give him the trophy cause they said he was just mashing things together hoping they'd miss something. so if they know the general idea, they don't give the fool us trophy. for eric chien, they clearly wanted to give him the trophy, so they pretended there was one thing that fooled them.

Personally, I don't like magic tricks that relies on gimmicks and stuff that do half of the trick. I favor magic tricks that rely on slight of hand and that requires You hours and hours of practice. Eric Chien is truly a champion and I've seen his tricks over and over again and are still amazed every time.

I knew him before he was on AGT and remember watching his FISM act online and being amazed. I'm disappointed that he did the same act for P&T but I can understand given the constraints of having to prerecord and do it remotely. That's not exactly the best circumstances for debuting new material or doing anything but your most polished work. Still, I'd *really* like to see what he's come up since winning FISM. (Like I had never seen Mario Lopez's salt pour thing. I only knew of him from his other work. But that salt trick was equally mind blowing.)

I feel I kind of do too. But upon first viewing this blows every act out of the water. Even Shin Lim. Ribbon is better than 52 shades of red and Dream act (I am not saying Shin is bad at all, Shin and Eric clearly are the future of magic). But I've become an Eric Chien fanboy. I've been waiting for him to get this trophy. The same way they gave the one to the guy who they knew how he did his trick but only because the magician sent Teller his book on how

I think, they really studied him like they said and are huge fans and just couldn‘t say anything else than they have been fooled. They probably know but just couldn‘t „destroy“ his career. Like everywhere else, you don’t rat one out as influental as yourself. They stumble over their own feet and then you can take advantage but anything else would hurt yourself. I bet, they just wanted someone popular on their show and had an agreement before, they would definitely say, they are fooled. 🤷‍♂️

Unlike most acts that are a series of tricks designed to impress for their own sake, his told a story. The magic was a vehicle for that story. So, in trying to deconstruct the magic, the story is missed. Most people would be drawn in to see where the story goes and would forget about deconstructing the magic, so he gets a little extra tolerance for mistakes.
@svensorensen7693

ooo, Eric Chein. I saw him perform this on AGT (Maybe it was your channel, I don't remember.) I really like not only the story of his act, but how there's a "logic" to it. It almost feels like a video game puzzle. (Specifically it reminds me of Lufia 2 for some reason) And of course it's incredibly entertaining to watch. The fable at first reminds me of a man who got into a bad relationship, (He was fooled by the placid appearance and was surprised when it changed) and this would seem to be supported by the sea turning into a woman, but then I don't understand what the wind would be or what the lesson you're supposed to learn is. Well, unless it's a "women be crazy and don't take responsibility for anything" thing, but that feels like a bit of a reach, and I'm not aware of Aesop being a MGTOW. Outside of a generic "Don't judge by the first appearance" I'm not sure what meaning it has. That effect at the end of your video is...terrifying.

Seen the act before a few times. Also, why would this channel have demonetization issues? That seems a little strange as you aren't exactly making any sort of content that could be considered controversial. The last part of this act this time gave too much away with the fly away. As you say though Jason, this was a much nicer one to watch on slow mode to understand a bit more of what is going on. Only do so if you are someone that likes to ruin the fun of life unless your fun is understanding magic like a magician :)

I have seen this act numerous times and still enjoy every second of it. This is one of those acts that I will never try to analyze because I do not want to ruin the winder of the effect. Knowing it is all trickery, but appreciating the skill that it takes to make it look like real magic adds to the enjoyment. Now about his little morality play. I still agree with Penn when he said he liked the Stuart MacDonald Magic Mirror act where the guy ends up rich, rather than this constant bleeding heart liberal garbage about the evils of making money and becoming rich. Like it or not Capitalism is good, it is what made the United States what it is today, as well as every other advanced nation on Earth.

I really like the production quality in this one. AGT cutting style is awful while this feels less edited than even usual Fool Us stuff. And as you said, there is some very visible imperfection that was kept in, magic isn't fun if you feel like you're getting cheated in the presentation and Penn and Teller do a good job keeping the magicians honest.

Ive never seen this trick done with this kinda light on the table, its usualy pitch black, look at 7:30, where he puts the coins, you can se the outline of a card shaped form, a thin black outline, so, a hidden compartment or hatch?

IDEAS FOR VIDS: I. Borrow neighbour's kittens and make a disappearing trick with them; 2. Do a modern rabbit in a hat act cliché for fun; children love bunnies; 3. Birds are used in magic tricks too would be nice to see a modern take on that; * 4. People are into food sublimating during lockdown do a trick juggling oranges or bananas; P&T already included oranges; 5. Do a funny vid eg juggling a cake or making it disappear but goes wrong and ypu get covered; 6. No harm in doing a: 'day in the life of JP" down the gym, local restaurant food, breakfast lunch ... 7. Do a vid asking locals what they do during lockdown could do a magic trick for them too while they respond; 8.Do a vid going through your card collection; book collection again; 9. Do a vid on history of cards who invented them; why kings and queens and joker etc who was jack? 10. ...expand to Tarot cards. Is there a playing card museum anywhere in the World? 11. When/why were cards used for gambling? 12. When / why cards ... used for Magic tricks; 13. Who did the highest card tower; 14. Why are cards made of linen? What other materials? 15. You've got gold rimmed/edged. Does anyone own real gold playing cards? 16. What size is the biggest playing card in existence/smallest? 17. There are lighters shaped like a box of cards - what other (weird?) items are made with playing card designs? LASTLY 18. There was a London Bus painted with a 7 diamonds on the side once. Eg cakes that look like packs of cards. What other art is there using playing cards as the inspiration? *noticed that ANY vid on YT gets millions of hits if animals involved
