Shin Lim is by far the most remarkable slight of hand, close up, card magician I've seen. Regardless of how it's done, his work appears effortless & supernatural.
Personally I'd prefer audience interaction. But then again it's more of a stage act, so I do understand why he does it the way he does. It's just my personal preference
There are tricks that you can know and when you see them preformed, they are nice but boring. Even knowing most of Shins card tricks and his slights, I could never get bored, because trying to practice to his level is frustrating and yet so fun trying..
@@aleksilaine2758 i know u commented 2 years ago but my guess is that he's pulling back a piece of black cloth that reveals the cards. The illusion is that he's just making cards appear out of nowhere, and the shadow of his fingers give the illusion that his hand is hovering over the cards, but I believe his hand is just angled upwards and with the lighting it casts a shadow over the cards while his palm drags a piece of black cloth to reveal the cards.
Really enjoyed this reaction video. Your amazed and perplexed responses were great. Of all the videos I've watched this is by far the most mystified I've seen you. I find myself watching your reactions more than the performances; which i suppose is the reason for the videos in the first place. It's very cool to see a fellow artist (not me) appreciate and give props to another performer.
At the beginning when you see the aces and then the picture cards appear. You never see the backs of the picture cards. The backs are the same colour as the table. When the Aces disappear, he is using magnetic cards. But you have to give credit for his sleight of hand.
Wow. I mean...I *may* have caught one of the dozens of moves that he did. And I could be wrong about that. You've mentioned in reply to me before that you're familiar with the kind of smoke effects used (with which I am not familiar, so it still blows me away). But, like, I compared this in my head to the Will Tsai coin matrix that was the first reaction I watched from you. And while I'm only maybe 70% sure I know how that was done, at least I was able to think of a way to do it. At first I thought that Shin Lim's trick used at least one of the same techniques I had in mind for Will Tsai, but by the end of the performance I knew that couldn't be the case. This performance? I'm am absolutely 0% sure that I know how it was done. This is the kind of magic that I love -- and hate. I love it because it genuinely fools me. I also hate it because I can't think of a single method with which to pull it off. But obviously, the love of feeling that wonder that I so rarely feel these days far outweighs my disdain at not being able to figure it out. I went to the Magic Castle in Hollywood once, and much of the audience was magicians. And if you can't fool a fellow magician, you probably won't be performing there. You called Shin Lim "high-level," and while I can't argue that, I'd go as far as "next-level" or even "unprecedented-level" for him. I was truly astounded. Beats the heck out of David Blaine trying to catch a bullet in his mouth (whether he succeeds or fails).
he said it well, it's a differant performance (stage performance) Black table with different angle camera's and only 1 or 2 people around him, mostly actors or crewmembers. It's still very impressive for us normal people but offcourse we all know it's still slight of hand. He doesn't break him, on the contrary he respects his hard work and great performance. Keep it up Shin!
The black felt table mat is not featureless, he knows exactly what the camera angle is, and pay attention to his off-hand, especially when he doesn't make a big deal of letting you see his palm. These may be pretty obvious, but they are the biggest hints. The incredibly subtle slights of hand are what make this incredible.
he makes the cards red with a gimmick deck. (I believe it's called brain eraser) where half the deck is red and the other half is blue. so if you spread it to the left, it will spread blue, and if you spread it to the right it will spread right. you can set it up however you need for the trick, but that's how it was done.
Shin Lim is the GOAT of close up card magic never seen anybody as good as he is. I like his music too. The second song is Outro my M83 can anyone tell me who is doing the first one? Very beautiful I must say.
Wow. In a world so full of insecurity and jealousy and the nearly epidemic need to cripple others in order to be the one to offer them crutches it’s so awesome to see someone (you) happier to offer wings to those climbing mountains instead of figuring out a way to send them crashing to the ground. Kudos to you sir.
You see I'm not really a fan of conventional card magic or coin magic, it's sort of the escape magic of today's era, although I understand why veterans still like it. I think a lot of stage magic has lost its touch as well, people like David Copperfield etc, those types of massive stage illusions got ruined by the Masked Magician and everyone else who followed him. If anything it's gave magic a big nudge and made people step up, and it's because of that we have guys like Shin Lim or Kostya Kimlat who really push the boundaries of slight of hand and keep magic relevant in modern times, even when we have the ability to now analyse a routine in detail over and over.
People actually love to see a skill performer. Sleight of hand is one of them. Like Shin Lim simply using cards to show people series of "sleight of hand" arts and people love it because he manage to perform it smoothly entertaining.
My guess for SOME parts of it: Since he does not do this "close up" he has a reason ^^ I'd guess he uses the super absorbant cloth and he has the first deck of cards on top of the table but hidden underneath a cloth of the same fabric. With this super absorbant cloth you have NO reflections you cannot see if there is a pile on the table or not. It always looks flat. When he fans out the deck he "just" fans them out and keeps the covering cloth in his hands to discard it later. The same might be used when he turns 1 card into 3 because it does not look like a back to back number - this really seems to be a single card he starts with. As an alternative one of the cards could be coated with the same material which would be easier, I guess, than a cloth.
There were a few mistakes in there but overall he's pretty clean considering how many tricks are involved and it doesn't take away from all the things he does flawlessly.
That wasn't a mistake lol, that just shouldn't have been in the routine. Not sure why his plan was to physically bring the cards down with his hand instead of just dropping it.
He didn't drop nor grabbed a new deck. I believe he used the cooler trick. Place the cooler on the bottom and when he hand comes over the deck he flips the deck the with other hand. Notice how he also holds the cards on his right hand. You can tell he's cupping the bottom so the cards won't slip out. Look up "cooler deck switch" to know what I'm saying.
This is the dude that fooled Penn and Teller and Penn though he had him and when the result from the judges was NO - Penn did not have him The big guy got kindda Pissy. I tell there has to be a colony of Chinese monks up in the Himalayas popping these guys out like a factory. ANY contest they enter they win. Oh if you want your head BLOWN ! Shim Lim has a routine where he puts roses petals back into a complete rose , the brings it to his face blows on iy , you see (you expect cigarette) but the smoke freezes the rose solid. his last move is to just crush it to powder.
I believe it is a special deck, half of each card is red and blue on the back, and with the number and white in the front. So he always show them the same way and only shows half of each card when showing the deck. Of course this requires lots of practice!
You do know his hands are what make it visually enticing he’s quite extreme he hurt his hand practicing but he kept going at it since it’s his passion tbh I prefer his magic over criss angel’s
Just FACE IT. HE IS LEAGUES AHEAD OF YOU. HE IS A PIANIST. HE IS ALSO ASIAN WITH A SPIRITUAL MINDSET. HE DESERVED TO WIN. I AM 66 YRS OLD. I KNOW NOTHING ABOUT CARDS. I HAVE THREE GROWN SONS, WITH THREE GRANDSONS, AND I HAVE NEVER SEEN ANYTHING LIKE IT. I HAVE EAST INDIAN FRIENDS WITH CHRISTIAN AND HINDU RELIGION. SO THEY HAVE BOTH. THIS GUY HAS A SPIRIT THAT IS WITH HIM THAT IS JUST AMASING. HE HAS A FRIEND WITH CANCER AND PLANS TO DONATE SOME OF IT. THAT IS WHO HE IS. THAT IS HIS TRUE MAGIC. PEACE.
YES! Leagues and MILES ahead of him. I cringed each time this amateur bedroom magician would agree to the moves almost like he was giving some kind of fake approval, whilst having no idea how they were being done. It's quite embarassing (and rewarding to me) when someone so full of himself gets shamed off of his imaginary pedastal when confronting True Greatness, that is, Shin Lim :)
New watcher here so I don't know if you have seen them yet and done one but how about Brynwolf and Ljung I think are how they spell their names. The Worlds Most Difficult Card Trick. It did fool P and T so you can find it around.
Yes. His whole head. I thought it was pretty neat. I know you probably have a list thats super long by now but I thought I might add two cents. Love your work.
Is it a full deck? Something looks odd with the thickness of the deck. I saw the deck switch but apart from that, the moves looked flawless, almost like camera trickery. Dynamo did this too. Do you like Dynamo? I can't stand him. I think he is way, way too reliant on stooges, camera trickery and setup. I don't find anything original about him. I don't find his illusions particularly good. The thing that really, really annoys me are people making comments like, and I am quoting here, "Is he the next step in our evolution?". No, you fool, it's a trick. I have only found your videos yesterday and I already like you far better than him. I like your interest in the technicality of the trick but, unlike me, you can actually do them.
How about you explain acts like mirin dajo? Since obviously these are all just "tricks" right? Let's see a video on that , and your explanation on it why don't we. Please and thanks.
I don't do reveals/explanations on things that I do know. Mirin Dajo I haven't heard of and just looked up. Looks like he died from it so maybe he really was stabbing himself
He did it many times over a long time span. Successfully. Claiming he could not be killed cause of his "protection". Then all the sudden it killed him. Just luck to have been stabbed through his body all those time and survive?
Eduard Todor thanks. trust me you'll like the performance but make sure you watch it until the end when Penn and teller are telling him how it's done because Dan Harland has a few tricks up his sleeve... that's all I'm saying cause I don't want to spoil the end. but yeah react to it...
Shin Lim is the 2015 Magic World Champion of Card magic from what I've read He is a performer and a good one. He does say that it takes very strong and flexible hands and fingers to do what he does.
the pad where he put the card face down is warm or hot thats why he always put it face down to fully vanish the ink and some of the part of the pad is cold so he can reveal back the card. Here some link to it ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-eWTa01xhMb0.html of proof how the ink works. And I think he use the vanishing ink to cards or a custom print cards.
I actually really like his presentation, I think it gives you a greater appreciation for his sleight of hand, as he's not explaining what he's going to do, he just does it. I prefer it to the sort of "pick a card any card" type vocal tricks and I really like all the vanishes and colour changing he does. With the music it really feels magical and I think in a day and age where a lot of card moves are common knowledge it's actually a benefit to be able to leave people where they can't ask questions. I think if the magician has to explain to you as well as show you what he's doing, then it's more psychological and less magical, which I really love because I want to be left dumbfounded.
6:13 your expression the sign of utter astonishment 😂😂 love it it's nice to see a magician like your self appreciating another fellow magician's talent 👌 and let's face it Shin is one hell of a talent 😲
