I’ve finally finished it!! My Materia Medica/Materia Magica/Big Herbal, book of correspondences! In a Practical Magic style, with cat cameos of course!
BEAUTIFUL!! My advice to those afraid to start...don't look at it as if there has to be a finish or an end, look at it as an ever-growing ever-changing entity that grows and changes with you! Chip away at it. If you don't feel like working on it non-stop then don't, step away for a while and when inspiration strikes work on it some. I tend have multiple projects going at once so if I don't feel like working in one, I'll go to another. Over time you'll look back and be like wow look at all the stuff I've done, created! Hope that helps anyone struggling because I was in the same boat! 💜
I came back today to finish the flip through. I would love to see your garden Corregan. It must be wonderful, and your apothecary cabinets must be really interesting. I think you have well and truly achieved your goal of creating a Herbal that feels old and well used. Just love it. You really need to be able to pass this on and others you have made. They're too lovely to be lost. I make witchy journals and I would love to show you some of the pages from them but at this stage I don't have a RU-vid channel just a Facebook page. Oh, and you have inspired me to continue with my Grimoire. I'm enjoying working in it. Looking forward to your next video.😻
Thank you so much!!! Would you believe I’m a TERRIBLE gardener? Most of my “homegrown” herbs in my apothecary literally grow themselves. If I try to “help “… they die 😢 I’m so glad you’re inspired to work in your own Grimoire. I would love to see them, but I don’t use facebook… would you consider sharing on Instagram?
What a great herbal. I'd been listing herbs, their properties and uses but it was in an A5 sized grimoire I add to & use. (Handy size to carry) And I'd made a footnote that my notes were a drop in the herbal ocean! And thought I should get a printed herbal. Seeing yours inspires me to start making one. I love how you've mixed up the information, writing sideways and in different inks. And your illustrations look great. A thing to treasure. Tfs 🌱
Thank you!!! It’s large, but I like that it has all the stuff in it that feels pertinent to me. I have a gazillion books on herbs, and I do refer to them but this is my go to! I love that you’re inspired to create your own, it’s so magickal to create ones own reference books!
Priceless! I absolutely love !! TYFS - you put so much into this . I was struggling so I went on the hunt for some inspiration and wow 😮you are so inspiring. And I live the advice because it is soooo true! If ya f’ up your book just keep going! The f’ ups are beautiful. I am starting Apothecary class with SG in January and making my own book. She will guide me every week and keep me on track to learn- so much to learn. This is truly a book of Wisdom- you can hand down to generations. No App with ever take the place if this work of art & knowledge. I am so glad I found your channel.
I just found this finished flip through. I'm going to make an herbal like this to pass on to my daughter & her children. Though I've not started. I'm truly inspired! Thanks for sharing all your wonderful creations. Erryn S.
what an absolutely extraordinary book.. it is magic on its own.. decades in the designing and crafting.. infused with these mystical teachings and spells from your well of wisdom.. spectacular
Just found this video and your channel and I have absolutely fallen in love with your style and personality. Your book is beyond beautiful and you’ve inspired me to get cracking on mine now. Thank you so much x
Thank you for posting this it's really lovely. I've just started.....no resumed....a new herbal "bible" after returning to my practce after many years. Yours is fabulous inspiration 😊
absolutely breathtaking book, a heirloom! I've been wanting to make a herbal grimoire for years, Im left so inspired so many different pages , i need to get on it ,
"I hope this wasn't disappointing." Not even!! I just watched it (on my phone) and now I'm watching it on my TV so I can get a better look. Great advice and insight! I'm feeling inspired.
Aloha Corregan, loving re-watching your older videos for a boost of inspiration. I'm 9 days in to my 2nd Covid journey, since 2020 & feeling really drained, I think the worst is over, seem to have dried up at last. Thank you for your advice & sharing your beautiful works of art with us all. P.S I'm in Scotland!!! Blessings to all. XXX I must say, the gatefold aspect is such a vintage look too. I have shelved that idea!!!
Thank you so much my Scottish sister!!! (Jelly, I long for my ancestral land!) So sorry you have the Rona. It’s the worst. I had it so badly 😞 Recovery was slow, but I too got a whole lot of inspiration from my favourite old RU-vid videos! Working slowly in my book for short periods of time was crucial during my convalescence!!! Hope you are 💯 percent very soon!!!
this is one of THE most inspiring and freeing videos ive seen im very much the type to wait till i feel everythings right before starting a project and i know it's not the best way to do things but it's so intimidating to start. but this is really the inspiration ive needed thank you so much
Oh wow, thank you so much, that’s an incredible compliment! I am absolutely thrilled that this has given you inspiration and confidence to dive in, that genuinely means the world to me!
Wow! I will def return to watch this video a few times. This is inspirational and there is no doubt you will see spawns and variations on this theme in many other creators. Brava!
OMGoddess!!!! bloody hell this is awesome! I love it so much I have saved it. Perhaps after Yule I might be able to do something like this. I dont recall if you said how long it took you. I remember seeing you do the front cover and being super jealous about that gorgeous material! hahaha the Antique Anatomy is a lovely deck, did you see Dawn-Michelle from Boho Tarot's revamp of it..you would love what she did, its very artsy....I seriously considered doing it to mine...might one day. You are absolutely inspiring my lovely friend xxxx
Thank you so much love!! You should definitely do this!! I did work on this project sporadically over the last maybe 2 years? Maybe a little longer? But there were big chunks of time where it just sat next to my desk reproachfully 😆 I loved Dawn Michelle’s re-crafting of the antique anatomy tarot, it actually was the inspiration for one of the oracle decks I made!!!
Absolutely gorgeous! I am adding herbal info to my grimoire, but I’m using a disc bound notebook so I can change things around. That’s the hope anyways.
Thank you SO MUCH for sharing your Big Herbal, page by page!! A very special moment with you, lots of respect for your work and your thoughtfulness/intentions. You've lit the fire under me to get me going on my own Materia Medica/Materia Magica!! I've only started on a fixed BOS and haven't gotten back to it (yet!). I really enjoy your style and customization ideas, such elegant cleverness. I would love to see what you do for the Celtic Deities/Gods & Goddesses! Cheers, blessings and love!
I plan to put the herbal info in my grimoire, but now I do not really know. Another book is much more fun. Thank you for sharing. It was inspiring, not boring! I love your videos because you make them fun and down to earth. I always want to create something after watching you.
It IS fun making more books! You could always do both?! Thank you so much for such a wonderful compliment, it means the world to me that my videos inspire you to create something!!!
Thank you!! Yes, this book is very large. I used a dismantled sketchbook and sewed my signatures to a hidden spine before gluing it into the cover. (There’s heaps of tutorials around RU-vid for this if you’re not familiar with the process!)
I make practical magic style books. Really like yours!! I have a goddess one on my channel and will be making an herbal in the near future. Thanks for the inspiration!!
I've only got one entry in mine! It's not alphabetical, but has a table of contents in the beginning which I will fill in as I go. I started with nettle, for whatever reason 🤷🏼♀️
Oh wow! I love it. For me I think I would not be able to work my way through straight in alphabetical order. So I am using a binder, so I can work on herbs I work with at the moment and explore them. This way I can add more pages, as I go.
Thank you!! Yes, I can completely understand that! Actually I did my first version of this in a binder, just written on loose leaf paper, for just that reason! After 30 years I am more comfortable and settled in the herbs I use, but I still find things I want to add!!! Thank goodness for tip-in pages!
May I ask you what kind of paper you used on the first page left side? I love the see through or sheerness of it. I thought maybe vellum. I would love to incorporate this type of paper in my own Grimoire. I can see the passion in your book. It’s beautiful
Heyy! I m trynna make my own book of shadows.. but first i want the type of wrinkly old paper with brown spots in it .. to make it look ancient. It gives a great mood..cause im an old soul and the ancient things really gimme peace. So do tell me how can i make those old looking wrinkly brown papers?
Thank you! I love to go back to my witchy books and add embellishments and drawings and things, the layered effect can be a lot of fun. I would love to see it if you decide to do that with yours!
