This is a nice looking black MAGNAVOX AW 8200 boombox. It has a 5 speaker system. Also, dual cassette + AM/FM radio with 5 band graphic equalizer.
All knobs and parts were intact, not a big cosmetic issue. The dual cassette decks were not spinning, but the motor was arrived. So I cleaned out inside and out, fixed cassette problems and added Bluetooth receiver system. I tapped into the radio signal lines for Bluetooth, and when the Bluetooth switch is on, at the same time the radio signal is cut that create clean Bluetooth sound. Also in this way, you can control Bluetooth sound with boombox's volume, tone and equalizer controllers. The rainbow LED is also looking nice.
It took me for a week. I had a gratifying result and enjoyed music from Bluetooth system.
Enjoy!!

I got that boom box for Christmas when I was kid. Got rid of it after it ate my cassette tapes.

Seeing this was a flashback for me. My 5th grade reading teacher had this in her classroom (this was back in the 1990 - 1991 school year) She would play the radio or cassettes during class while we were working. I have not seen one of these since.

Hello Teddy, yes, you definately have a Philips design there. Did you notice the orange coloured gears in the tape decks ? Be VERY carefull with those, they're made of a plastic that's garbage. It was used in everything from the personal stereos, boomboxes, music centres, and even high-end hifi products. Some of these gears can be changed for suitable nylon types, but the ones with the slanted helical teeth are, so far as I know, not available anywhere. It was as if Philips WANTED the things to fail. You'll find them in Philips, PYE, and Magnavox that I know about. There may well be more. FUNAI used the old Philips mechanics too ! Good modification to that boombox by the way :-)

@teddyhashee 7 лет назад
Hi, River. Thanks for the great information about gear. Once the original gear goes bad, it is very difficult to substitute it. So next time I will check the orange gear when I do restoration and see how the condition is. Again, good information, Thank you.

Hi teddy! I was wondering where you got the the replacement belts or if you had parts numbers for those. Thank you for your great videos!
@teddyhashee
@teddyhashee 4 года назад
I did not have the parts number for the belt size. What I did was I measured size by myself and tested with different size of the belt for the best result.

Very nice video indeed. I have a D8300 and was wondering if you knew where I could find a parts layout for this machine. I believe the one I have has been opened before and has wrong parts in it causing it not to perform right. Any help would be appreciated. Again... Awesome video and look forward to more mods on this machine :)

When it comes to restoration, you can use your imagination to create or add new thing to your boombox. That will make your boombox more precious.

Just bought one of these (the Phillips branded version in the UK). It's a wreck, I am a novice, it might not go well with fixing it! But, somebody said if it chews tapes, which one deck does, then clean with alcohol. What sort, is there a certain type I should buy (and could I drink the leftovers, ha ha!).
@chrisfidler2752

Also one of the belts has snapped, and it went up my vacuum cleaner so cannot check the size. It was the shorter band for the cassette deck. I have seen it might be 120mm, does that sound about right?

Buen trabajo de actualizar el radio pero. La llave larga que pusiste no le viene. ,pudiste utilizar un int. Negro y más pequeño cuidado con los detalles.

Awesome! I have in storage what from memory is an identical radio/cassette player player but it is badged as a 'Philips' including the carry strap. Maybe this unit was sold with different names in different markets around the world?

hi there! great job on this boombox! i would like to know how you put the bluetooth system and what parts you need to do that conversion! many thanks Victor
@teddyhashee
@teddyhashee 6 лет назад
Victor, what I have been doing to add bluetooth is 1)Find the radio signal L and R input 2)Put bluetooth signal L and R there 3)bring power from power source and convert it to 5v using stepdown modulator and/or car usb charger 4)when bluetooth power on, cut the radio signal 5)use led for the bluetooth on/off indicator, use 6 pin toggle switch parts are 1)bluetooth receiver 2)mpow groundloop noise eliminator 3)LED and resistor 4)6 pin toggle switch 5)stepdown convertor, and usb car charger teddy

I have one of these in pretty rough shape. It barely puts out any audio out the center speaker only. It's very quiet and can only be heard in a quiet room with the volume all the way up. It sounds like a nice boombox in videos. I just wish I could figure out what's wrong with mine.
@teddyhashee
@teddyhashee 6 лет назад
You want to clean the all controllers with contact cleaner. Especially volume and balance controller pots. It might solve the no sound problem.

Hi teddy could you please do a more detailed video on the magnavox radio I like to fix mine the bells are broke inside. Keep up the good work 😊
@teddyhashee
@teddyhashee 5 лет назад
The cassette deck belt replacement isn't so hard. You remove the cassette deck, and take many pictures as much as you can, then step by step remove parts. After successfully remove the flywheel, then you can clean the cassette deck especially dirt and old grease, then replace belts,.... if I encounter the magnavox again, I do sure to make a video. Thank you for the comment.
