Wish I had found your video sooner. I take mine apart by cleaning the control mode, cleaning the drum, and other areas where the tape feeds through. Almost gave up on it but all it needed was the band to get cleaned along with the pulleys.
Love this. I have a magnavox that has similar stopping issue. I plan to clean the belt and see if that fixes it! I'm also unsure of the specific areas you were cleaning on the drum and head as your hand was in the way. I hope it's the belt! Thx again@
It's not a NorCal715 video without an appearance by Mr. Acetone. You could use methylated spirit to clean the belts if you didn't have acetone on hand. It works just as well. However, some people might be disappointed that you didn't change any capacitors but I don't think this combo needs new caps (yet). A simple repair. Hopefully you have a happier customer after this.
Hello NorCal715, I don't have exactly the same situation, I have bought an old Thomson VHS reader , I can insert my tape in it, it seems to want to start to play the VHS but after 1 or 2 seconds it stops, rewind the small part it started then ejecting the VHS.. I tried both manual and auto, manual just stop there Do you think it's also a pulley problem ? I tried the full forward and rewind technique but it's not working (the cassette still accept being rewind/forwarded though)
Do you still repair these? I have a magnavox also lol is doing the same thing I have cleaned the belt, the heads. The spinning wheel it rewinds and fast forwards just fine but stops after a few seconds of playing and ejects the tape just like this one. I would like to have you try to repair it if you still fix these machines
I do but can not post it now. Just look through my playlist and I have detailed bow to remove the mechanism. It involved a complete disassembly from the chassis.
Terrific video. My Magnavox VCR will load but then ejects quickly and the cylinder head does not spin up and the tape guides do not move either. I serviced the mode switch per your video but no improvement. Any other suggestions why the head won't spin up?
If you can make more video on faults on circuit board and explain where to search on pcb and how to repair it, I have big patience in learning repairing especially video cassette recorder . I could not finish the course I was taking in private school due to financial problems in 1988
my vcr makes a loud click when a tape is inserted and then it turns off, i turn it back on and the tape is ejected with the film unraveled. Please somebody help, i have this model in the video
I have a high-spec drive JVC with an RA edit mode and it's only playing my videos for 6 seconds at a time trying to figure out how to fix the problem on my own so the movie will play fully. Any advice?
I have this player and the dvd cover won’t stay close. Can you show me t the inside front cover too see if the spring is in the wrong spot or if it’s the player itself that has a part missing? Please help. Thanks!
I have a similar issue, just a little different. When I put a vhs in, it pulls the tape to the head but then ejects the tape and does not respool the tape. Leaving it hung up on the little arms and turns off. Secondly, the DVD will not play. I cleaned the lens and it still does the same thing happens. Then turns off.
Did you start by servicing the mode select switch? That would be my first go-to for the VHS failure. As far as the DVD, they are very finicky and may have a component failure of a bad optical pickup.
No sir, but I will. And go from there. I'm looking for pointers as I've never done these things before and I do not want to screw anything up. I will clean the mode switch and belt while I'm there. Then see what happens. I thank you very much for the advice.
Man people how clean out there mode switch people will never have playing problem's at all with there VCR players everything proven it starts with people themselfs keeping that mode switch out specially it doesn't clean it self
@@norcal715 I just use them as dvd recorders for my vhs to dvd business I've tried to get them to work and the belts move and make a grinding sound besides magnovox vhs players are junk I just have a samsung connected to it its probably better anyway
Crazy these things are selling for $280 on Amazon I picked mine up at Walmart for like $59 years ago 🤣🤣 Sad to see technology that was once king tossed in the trash’ parts become harder and harder to find as time goes on as most ppl are like nobody would want this or parts and toss it 😩
Was going to say the exact same thing. All of the white cable and gear surfaces have that classic yellow/brown tinge to them. It's amazing some of these electronics work at all with the film on them. Not to mention the smell.
