This is laughable to us now but i can only imagine how high tech this was 48 years ago.

Dude.....my dad worked for a subsidary of ITT which Magnavox owed. We actually had an earlier version of that system with overlays. Remember playing some hauted house game. Wish I still owned that.

It’s actually a really brilliant design when you think about it logically 🤔. We take videogames for granted during the modern day, but before they existed, somebody had to come up with the idea of modifying a single system and game to have different purposes, and to me, that takes immense creativity! 😊🙌📚

Awesome review of the odyssey! I've been wanting to learn more about it and now i know.

the reason the Odyssey came up short was because it was originally developed way back in 1966, back then it would've been hugely revolutionary, but by the time it finally got released in 1972 it was already outdated with Pong having a home version.

Ok You went to the Jawas to get the RF module for oddysey. Do they have no box dc power supply style for our retro gen systems laying around? I’m tired of running out of space in my power strip!

I think at the time in the 70's this would've been pretty fun, I like how it has games that are half board game, half video game.. I grew up with an Odyssey 2 and even that one had a few of those types of games, and as with the original system, the O2 was definitely geared more towards 2 player games.. The early Arcade scene of the 70's pre Space Invaders was almost exclusively 2 player only stuff. The Odyssey today would probly still be fun for those enthusiastic enough about it lol. Just because it varies the output doesn't mean it's not considered a cartridge-based game, it just means it varied in how cartridges were used. This was the first time video games had ever been produced, so it makes sense to find a way to cheaply produce them, and having the game code in the machine, and vary slightly using the next cartridge was a perfect way to do it.

The Odyssey-2 uses the same type of goofy connection at one end, with a more commonplace RCA/phono plug at the other to where it connects inside the case. You'll need to source a Odyssey-2 console (DUH!) and carefully open it--Don't be scared!--to easily disconnect it from the jack inside. A touch of advice for those following this route: First purchase a new cable with RCA/phono connection [at bot-ends] to replace the cable you're removing from the O-2, so to make it easier to hook-up later.

As a kid, I remember owning a tv that used the weird ass plugs like on 1:06. Those cables and connection thing relied on a flat tuning fork looking thing with a screw to hold it in place. If it was ever moved slightly, you couldn't see shit.

Thank god this system was just a few years before my time. I have no problems saying I was initiated into gaming, compliments, the atari.

I want to do a remake of every old console in a smaller form with wireless controllers and 100% complete game collection built in...or close to it that is. That's the only thing I hate about these plug n play systems like Atari Flashback, a very limited selection of games.

Although I liked this remake better than original, putting the better stuff from this review into part 6 would have been better, as others have pointed out. Otherwise, I implore you to make another chrismas special. I liked the one from last year.
