Jay, I love the channel and what you are doing! I especially love the element of surprise (e.g. going to the 20.7s). I look forward to your future videos. Keep up the good work!
Fantastic surprise, 20.7's - Awesome! - - - I agree with you Jay, when it comes to the maggies a person doesn't hear, like you said, woofers and tweeters - I don't know how Magnepan does it but they've got coherency down, little or no sense of "drivers" which is one of the many aspects I personally like about them. Looking forward to hearing more of 20.7's - - - love this stuff - - - thank you.
That's true, but they aren't the easiest to drive. I know, I owned 3.5Rs. I expect the 3.7s or the 20.7s will sound great, but I found the Emerald Physics open baffle to better my maggies, and are a nominal 8 ohm load and 96dB. See if you can find a pair of2.8sfor a big room, but the 3.4s are excellent with my EVS 1200 class D amp even in my 20 x 40 x 12 room
@@roberthart9886 Hi Rob - sorry I didn't respond sooner - - yeah, thanks, I'll do a bit of web searching for the Emeralds that you like - - Robert, it goes without saying that it would be so cool to have the efficiency, slam, and resulting visceral presentation to name a few of the high points of point source speakers like your open baffle favs combined with a line source, or near line source like the Magnepans that provide that "power response" generated by the large panel and for me, the extreme coherency and huge sound stage all combined together into a single design - - - I'm talking about something that doesn't exist and probably never will for the foreseeable, not simply adding a pair of Rels to compromises
Love the red ! I remember listening to a pair of 20.1 with Classe Omega mono blocks at an audiophile friend, just amazing! And yes current and power is what they crave:)
Fun it is !! - these speakers sound amazing , real rhythm ( to my ears ) . I don't think I've heard Sultan's of swing sound better , but I'm sure I will - yeah it's crazy but that's why I'm here waiting for your next surprise.....
Hi Jay, I will give a guess for your next big purchase... seeing how much you love amplifiers, I think you will go big and step up to the D’Agostiono Relentless 😁
Nice surprise getting 20.7s, 3.7is showed promise so natural progression. The 20.7s may pave the way for GTAW Reference planars and OB woofer towers. Good luck and success on your major acquisition.
Congrats Jay! The 20.1 was my show favorite at the Montreal Audio Fest a few years ago. Apparently, the 20.7 is much better than the 20.1 and cannot wait to see your review on these. Just laughing about Viber6's comment, when he says that the 20.7 tonality is more towards bass. When I compared the 20.1 to the 3.7, it was not even close. In fact, I found that the 3.7 lacked bass in such a way, that I decided to refurbish my Apogee Duetta Signature ribbon speakers. Boy, that was the best decision I made. At the time, the only Magnepan dealer in my neck of the woods, did not even demo the 20.1...I am pretty sure that you will love these babies. The 20.1 were fast, coherent and had a huge soundstage. The 20.7 should be only better IMHO...
Congrats on the 20.7’s! I would appreciate any comments you have on how the Maggie’s compare with the Martin-Logan’s you’ve tried. Magnepan seems like a better value, but does ML offer advantages in detail or transparency for their higher cost?
I know you are no tweaker but please, please, please get some better fuses for the maggie...fuses suck! Temporarily, you can wrap some copper foil around the stock fuses.....takes a few minutes if you have the foil.....will blow you mind!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hi Jay, two questions for you, Have you ever not thought about adding a turntable to your system? Have you ever thought about adding Vandersteen speakers or their MP5 dual amps to your system? You would be the perfect customer for their new Kento or even better, Model Seven line of speakers. The speakers have built in subs, so no subs required. I have owned Magnepans the 1.6qr and I enjoyed them, I have heard the 1.7 and the 3.6s. You are so right about power, I had a dealer blow up a low powered Naim integrated on the 1.7s when he turned the power up half way. He yelled oh...shit. He turn the amp off and on twice and the amp never came back on. Maggie’s need good clean power and a lot of it. Maggie’s just draw you into the sound stage, but the lower end Maggie’s need two good fast subs to sound their best.
Jay's Audio Lab , Hi and thanks for the response, I guess I have been lucky as I have never had a problem with any of my Vandersteen speakers, but that is what this hobby is all about, growth and different opinions is how you grow. The 2se signature IIs did have more bass by themselves than the Magnepan 1.6qr that I had before them. What I didn’t like was the separate subs that I had bought for my 2ce signature IIs because I was never able to get the bass out of the two that I had, but the Quatros that I have now have built in subs, so the bass problem has been thoroughly taken care of. I look forward to your next video.
Jay, the upcoming big ticket item better not be WA's WAMM Chronosonic. I will die of severe envy syndrome. Thankfully, it will probably be new mono block amps or cables. We all eagerly await your latest and greatest. Thanks.
Hi Jay, I say don't stress on the mic. Just use whatever makes it easy for you... we are using RU-vid to hear anyway so, there is only so much you can do. On another note, I told my wife as we where watching this video... that I bet you bought the 20.7... LOL. 😁
The 30.7 Maggies are the only planars worth considering and I'm not a Maggie fan. I appreciate the work involved in bringing a variety of truly high-end gear to your channel. Looking forward to the coming months.
You audiophiles are crazy ,but I cant stop watching,I am quite fascinated how far you go just for a slightly clearer cymbal.I can believe you.you not a salesman. How about trying some cheaper just for fun. Macdonalds tastes good sometimes . Im catching bug.You made me start looking for some magnepans on ebay.I need stop watching.I dont want a room full of gear and an empty wallet. Thanks for all your efforts.
Very best Ribbons ever made, Apogee Grand Divas.... just saying .... ( anyway Jay never buys high priced non fast selling gear so ... no chance for the Divas :( ) .
@@jaysaudiolab Go to his latest video, hit description and scroll down and its under 'video equipment'. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-_jAv1e42RK0.html That video in the description under video equipment he has the mic. It is a Rode mic, panasonic lumix camera.
Tease tease yes please... guesses amplifier it’s your core; speakers sure everything else accessories. So biggest deal. Either you push up the price chain with amps... such as... and bring more entertainment but far less accessible to the mortals here; esp given what you’ve had already. No idea.
Wilson sucks to me personal taste. I also hate steely state .I have heard all the Wilsons and none impressed me everyones ears are different enjoy your Wilsons. a lot of people do but their are much better speakers out their which do not cost a fortune some people like the notoriety of saying my speakers costs a quarter of a million and some just love good sound no matter if it cost 2 grand. Which is a good thing because good sound is not only for the overprivaleged and lucky people it is also for people who put thier backs into thier pay checks.
