I took magnesium one night when I had a bad migraine, after I took it my head started to tingle and after it was over my migraine was gone. Very interesting mineral to say the least.
@@joespilsbury2173 that particular time I took a powdered magnesium called Calm, In recent months ive started taking a magnesium glycinate by nature made as a maintenance dose.
I was having full body cramps at work while being fully fatigued, its was affecting my work performances as a high rise carpenter. So I remember at the doctors office I was told that I had really low levels of minerals and vitamin in me due to me being a type 1 diabetic. Well finally I went to Walgreens and bought potassium and magnesium Problem solved. No more full body cramps and no longer fatigue after a 10 hour work day
Could you share which type of magnesium supplementation you chose? I'm trying several different types for my chronic magnesium deficiency. Have not decided which is best, but there's a big difference in price in the different types.
@@katk1958 I got a green bottle of regular potassium/magnesium, I bought it at CVS, not Walgreens and idk if it matters. Muscle cells absorb potassium and magnesium with glucose once insulin is in the blood stream. What causes the cramps is when calcium gets in the muscle receptors causing it to contract violently. So to beat the cramps you need a healthy amount of magnesium I take 250mg daily but I was told that 500mg is more in range but thlake that with a gain of salt about the 500mg. To much of a good thing can be bad as well
I’ve been taking magnesium supplements because i’ve recently went on a LSD binge over the past 18 months and i can easily tell it fried my nervous system. I get weird muscle spasms all over my body especially the thigh muscles above the knee and in my fingers, lips, and the muscles in my butt. The magnesium definitely helps reduce the spasms by about 80% in my opinion.
For anyone reading this and looking to supplement with magnesium. Get magnesium Chloride flakes. This is the most bioavailable form of magnesium you can get just over a pound for little over 10 bucks online. I recommend you add it to your drinking water and supplement that way.
I've been binge watching your videos to refresh my A&P. You're both fantastic at delivering information, and all of your videos are ace. But I think this one put the biggest smile on my face. So many useful topics covered! Damn, the human body is incredible machinery! Thank you!
Great review of magnesium. I have fibromyalgia and I'm very anemic. Doctors dont explain what supplements do so I'm trying to gather info myself, so I can hopefully get out of 20 years if chronic pain/exhaustion, severe brain fog ( I'm assuming that is caused by 15 years of benzos and ambien [benzo brain]). I also have a huge muscle knot in my trap, chronic cervical pinched nerve and most recently my quads are extremely painful and so weak that I can barely get up off the floor. I am taking 800mg magnesium oxide/day, D3 -10,ooo IU/ day, and 650mg of ferrous sulfate. I'm out of my element with body/supplements. Thank you for making it easy enough for me (other) to understand. 🌻
You might want to check your diet and oxalates. Oxalates don't let you absorb the minerals and creat a a lot of health issues. I hope this clue help you.
@@crmauerman Thank you Carla! I had loads of labs done on Friday. Im sure more to come. I will definitely mention to my doctor testing for oxalates. I also want to have a copper test. Thx again for taking the time to add a suggestion. 🌻
I would recommend getting a oligoscan (test for minerals and heavy metals in your tissues), CDSA 5 gut test ( for things such as parasites, candida overgrowth etc), and even check thyroid function.
Benzoes are such horribly dangerous things to have people on for years. I’ve only gotten them for a short period of time but it messes up my memory for a while after I stop them, I still sometimes feel like my memory isn’t great. I can’t imagine being prescribed them everyday for years. Hope the brain fog goes away for you and that you feel better and find out what can help! Magnesium sounds like a really great supplement, I struggle with anxiety and I’d rather take a mineral than a drug. Luckily in my country benzoes are not prescribed as freely as in others. When I was younger it upset me but I’m very happy about it now.
Probably because he is not a medical doctor but a researcher. It's how people made fun of Jill Biden calling herself Dr Jill Biden lol. I can see why they did it but it's still pretty disingenuous.
Just came upon your channel today. Thank you for posting these incredibly digestible videos! Question regarding magnesium: Is it common for children who grow significantly in height over a short period of time to get depleted of magnesium? It would seem a child could become quite tired if a constant growing is depleting their magnesium resources (reduced magnesium=reduces ATP energy), no? Could reduced acetyl choline releases be responsible for migraines and nerve sensory issues? I realize you may not have time or necessarily be able to answer these questions as a medical professional. My mind naturally wants to connect the dots, so I am just trying to process some of the implications of your video as an everyday gal. Thanks, again and God bless you!
Hi. I have a question about the daily requirement. One reads everywhere that about 400mg cover the day bathing pool (without sport). Now I came across the following statement: "In the process, about 40% of the magnesium is absorbed." My question is: do I have to take so much that 400mg comes out at the end? So about 1000mg to thereby get 400mg (40%) or is it that the amount needed is actually 160mg which would be 40% of 400. With iron, e.g. 10% absorbed, so I always take 25µg to get to 2.5µg daily requirement. Unfortunately, often only the actual requirement is given, but it is often not mentioned what the required amount is in connection with the absorption. I hope someone has more agnung than me. Many thanks in advance! sry for the bad translation i hope u understand what i mean
The muscle thing is just an example of the role of magnesium in nerve function. In the context of brain health, magnesium plays a crucial role in protecting against overstimulation and excitotoxicity. Magnesium also exhibits anti-inflammatory properties within the brain. It modulates cerebral blood flow. Has antioxidant effects.. reduces chronic stress and protects from overstimulation. I could explain how, but not as good as Dr Mike..
Hi Mike, I found your channel a week ago and have watched about 40 different videos. You're great at explaining biochem and physiology. I have a suggestion for a new video...Could you please explain the differences between the types of Magnesium supplements? I take Lysinate Glysinate at night for sleep, and Citrate in the morning, but I don't understand why the different types of Magnesium have different effects. It would be really interesting to get your breakdown. Thanks.
Fluorine's chemical symbol is F, not Fl. It's not Florida. Please, if you're going to teach, take the time to proofread your work or you're teaching people incorrect information. Thanks.
Dr Mike Do have a video that speaks to magnesium deficiency that causes stiffness, numbness, tingling, muscle contractions and cramps? Does that body use the legs muscles as a source of magnesium or just the bones? I understand that it is difficult to measure magnesium levels in the body. Thank you
Magnesium-Rich Foods That Are Super Healthy👍 Dark Chocolate Avocados. The avocado is an incredibly nutritious fruit and a tasty source of magnesium Nuts. Nuts are nutritious and tasty. Legumes. Legumes are a family of nutrient-dense plants that include lentils, beans, chickpeas, peas and soybeans. Tofu Seeds. Whole Grains. Some Fatty Fish
I'll have to watch this video again because it's so full of fascinating insights into worlds I'm unfamiliar with intellectually at any rate, my body knows all about it apparently. Thank you for making it so interesting!
Mg2+ is an important ion which has a house in the city (cells) and one in the suburbs (bone). Its best friend is ATP and its neighbor is K+. Mg2+ has (2) jobs and (1) side hustle: it work as an assistant to Mr. Muscle Contractor around the clock and moonlights as a bodyguard for Ca2+. To make ends meet, it ubers with its pal ATP when needed Great video Dr. M&M! Keep it up
I need help with a question...I have severe and excruciating pain in my calf muscles when I walk...it is like someone has put my leg muscles in a vice and tightened it to it's maximum pressure point....I have to stop and wait for the pain to go away before I can walk again.Should magnesium supplement help? What type of magnesium should I take? Thank you all.
Gosh.. this is the best explanation I've ever heard. No doubt I'll be watching again to try to understand better, but thank you so much for taking the time to draw on the board and to put it into a way even I might be able to 'get it.' Sorta. Mostly. :-)
