I found this formula for Magnesium Lotion on a Facebook group called Off Grid Homestead Homeopathy and Healing, posted by Carole Homand, and I give full credit to her, and thank her for encouraging others to make it!
The ingredients are:
1 cup Grapeseed Oil
1 oz beeswax in small pieces
1 cup Magnesium Flakes, or Epsom Salts
1 tsp Essential Oil
1 Tbsp Argan Oil
1 Tbsp Shea Butter
1 cup hot water
Here are links for some of the products used:
Magnesium Flakes: amzn.to/2PgVkDm
Epsom Salts (but you might find it at a much lower price at a drug store):
amzn.to/2Q7I5u4
Grapeseed Oil: amzn.to/2Pehczu
Argan Oil: amzn.to/2EchwxM
Frankinsence Essential Oil: amzn.to/2DZ2JW0
Shea Butter: amzn.to/2EchZA2
#MagnesiumLotion #MagnesiumButter #MagnesiumFlakes #AntiInflammatory #MuscleAchesandPains

Hi Vickie, Wow!! Thanks so much for sharing this. Both Ted and I have joint pain in our fingers and this could really help. Especially since arthritis runs in my family!! I had tried the magnesium spray but it was a bit sticky. I love this idea of making a lotion!! This is going to be wonderful. Thank you SO much for sharing. Love, Mary

You are very welcome! I have put some on my neck where I have arthritis, and it did seem to help. I gave some to my pastor yesterday, and we will see how it works for him! But magnesium is sorely lacking in our diets, so I don’t believe it can hurt, and it can go directly to where it is needed.

This absorbs so well into your skin! I do know I put some on my neck the other night (I have arthritis there), and it did help. My pastor is using it (and his wife is reminding him to 😁), so hopefully I can report back soon. But think of it as when you soak in Epsom salts - it also has magnesium being absorbed through the skin.

This is fabulous and such great timing - I just purchased a bag of magnesium flakes to try making some magnesium butter! :-) I am curious as to whether it hardened up a lot in the refrigerator? I like your choice of using frankincense. great video. Thanks so much for sharing

I would not recommend using Epsom salts. The reason is, it does not absorb as well as magnesium flakes. Magnesium flakes are magnesium chloride, whereas Epsom salts are magnesium sulfate, which is more drying, thus, not absorbed well through the skin.
@VickiesCountryHome

Vickie's Country Home that’s good, I just wouldn’t put that you can use Epsom salt in your video because others may not know, and be tempted to use that because it’s so readily available.

Hi Vicky I’m not sure you’ll answer since this video is 4 yrs old - but praying you do. I’ve been looking at several Magnesium lotions videos& like yours best. I did have couple questions before I started- you said 1oz beeswax- but in your little bowl it looked like it had more ? Also the Shea butter you said 1 tabs spoon- but your little bowl looked like it had more? So was just checking cause I’ve tried a few others that didn’t come out right and has to throw away wasting stuff. I really hope you see & can let me know- been try to get some made for months- would greatly appreciate it 💕 Would like to visit your other products to maybe even try some of your stuff in the future. Thank you & Blessing to you.

Does anyone know if I can do one cup mag flakes, one cup water, combined; and all coconut oil instead of all the other things? The amounts of "other things" added up and that's how much coconut oil I'd use. I simply don't want to purchase all this stuff, in case I don't tolerate the end product = wasting money and ingredients. THANKS IN ADVANCE

Vickie you might want to consider using a bit of tea tree oil as a “preservative”. Not necessarily a preservative but it does prevent mold & mildew from growing in things with water as an ingredient. I make my own sugar scrub...very basic...Castile soap & sugar...and I keep it in the shower. Water does get in it from hands etc, but I’ve never had a bit of mildew. My only complaint is that it doesn’t smell wonderful, but In small quantities, combined with other more fragrant oils, it shouldn’t be too bad. Maybe? Hopefully. 😁 Saving your recipe (as always) to add to my arsenal of chemical free products. You’re very much appreciated!
@VickiesCountryHome
@VickiesCountryHome 5 лет назад
Thank you Amethyst! Although I love Tea Tree (even how it smells!), and it is anti-bacterial, any time that you introduce water into a formula, or the product is exposed to water, there are some very strong microbes that can infect the product. Some of these can even be life threatening. This is a link to one article explaining the dangers, but there are many others that I have read: makingskincare.com/preservatives/ This is why I have chosen to not make any liquid soaps, lotions, and even scrubs. Liquid soaps and lotions require preservatives, and scrubs should also have them if there is more than one use in a container, due to its exposure to water. You might not see or smell it, but it can still make you very ill. I considered putting Tea Tree or Lavender in this lotion, but I didn’t think it would really add much to it. So to be on the safe side, I will make sure that it stays refrigerated. Thank you for watching, and please let me know if you try this!
@amethystsamia

Vickie's Country Home thanks for the info. I realize there’s lots of nasty stuff out there and we do indeed need to do all we can to minimize our risks. My scrub doesn’t include water, but tiny drops of water do get in it. Of course the liquid Castile soap contains water. Seems as if we’re all doomed. Haha! Does using distilled water make it any better? For a variety of reasons I’m not able to make many things but the minute I can correct the reasons many of your recipes are on the top of the list! Thanks again for the link. 💜
@VickiesCountryHome
@VickiesCountryHome 5 лет назад
Distilled water will slow it down, also purified water. All of the water from my taps is well water that goes through a 4 stage filter, then a UV filter, so it isn’t bad. But the little beasties can still grow, just a little slower.

If your scrub has a high content of sugar, then the sugar will absorb the water and prevent bacteria from growing in the water. Preserving food is all about making the water not available for the bacteria. This can be achieved by binding the water with sugar or in this instance a salt, magnesium chloride.

Hi Carol, I believe that Shea is a tree nut, so anyone with that type of allergy should avoid it. Let me do a little checking, and I will try to see if there is something that would be similar. It won’t have the same properties as Shea Butter, but I might find one with the same texture.

How do you think the recipe would do using 1/2 cup water and 1 cup magnesium. Do you think it would hold its emulsification better?
@VickiesCountryHome
@VickiesCountryHome 5 лет назад
It is possible, although as I said, this is the first time that I made this formula. I am not concerned as much about the emulsification, as that is holding well. Adding water is something that I try not to do for bacteria, mold problems. However I did try dissolving some magnesium in oil, and that didn’t work, so you have to use water. Also, you would have to see if the magnesium would completely dissolve in the smaller amount of water. Please let me know if you try it, and how it works!
