Funny how we're all different. I saw the primary use case for this as being a dust collector.

Anything that keeps fingers away from a sharp moving object is not just a good idea it is essential and with this guard, you can see that it's properly set up.

That is most excellent! I must have one immediately! I bought the $350 Grizzly blade guard which was so horrible I finally just threw it away. This could be a good product for everyone I bet. Anyway, looks awesome. I’m off to check Dave’s video out.

Good video... I have my guard on a pivoting/retractable boom arm coming down from my ceiling. I am able to move it completely out of the way and have dust extraction through it as well. Love mag switch stuff!

Nice, for me the most frustrating part of using the table saw is dust collection for the top of the saw. People have touted the shark guard and I've tried that and it always seems to be in the way. Effective over the table dust collection that doesn't get in the way for both rip cuts and cross cuts would be something I would pay to have.

It is a bit odd have a magnetic guard. I am a Electric and mechanical engineers on some very large industrial machine think size of houses kinda like the really big double wide trailer mobile home for our small machines. The guard and covers have so many bolts and interlock switches making sure they are there and the idea of magnetic if off the wall but it gives me a few ideas that might come in handy. Thank you for making it

@@AndrewKleinWW one thing, I'm trying to figure out for my students during distance learning, is to give them design challenges. I give them a problem, like design a new blade guard, they design it in Sketch Up, submit it and best design wins a small prize. If you have any ideas on good challenges?

Not just clever, but esthetically pleasing to the eye. My question is why not have dust hood attached to the ceiling? I made mine to have it telescope straight down over the blade. I can raise it about 24 inches or if I need to get it completely out of the way, it swings up and attaches to catch on ceiling joist 8 feet above the floor.
@mhaz49
@mhaz49 4 года назад
WOW! This should be a viable product. It is simple, it works, and it has few, if any, blatant safety issues. The user MUST know what s/he is doing, so that is issue 1.

While this is an OK solution for David (and as always a great build by you) I think his situation would be helped by a ceiling mounted guard that is able to telescope up out of the way. He doesn't seem to ever move his saw, so once it was aligned it would stay that way. It would be up out of the way when he didn't need it, and could drop down and do it's job when needed.
@AndrewKleinWW
@AndrewKleinWW 4 года назад
that would be pretty slick. Does anyone make a guard like that?

@PapiSmerf
@PapiSmerf 4 года назад
More crap in the way. Sometimes having a cluttered work area is more dangerous than the safety equipment cluttering it up, and dust collection isn't safety equipment unless you're cutting some nasty stuff, so it's just clutter in this case. Hose really needed to port off in the other direction, and it could have if Andrew had used pipe instead of a solid rod for the arm, but I think his choices in materials were a bit limited what with the quarantine.

That was fun to watch, and could sure be useful, thank you for sharing. I don't think I've seen anyone use the bandsaw like you did at 2:37. Is that to help keep the blade from deflecting L to R?
@AndrewKleinWW
@AndrewKleinWW 4 года назад
no actually that was to correct a mistake, I had already attached the magnets and I didn't want to take them off to make that cut, so the block raised everything up so the magnets cleared the table. Laziness innovation.
