Today is Sunday, 11/14/23 & I just finished watching this video. I have loved Chip & Joanna Gaines plus their kids for years. This Castle Series was superb. Joanna did a fabulous job.❤
I grew up in Waco. When I was 4 or 5 my parents owned a car repair shop directly across the street from the Silos. When I was older I drove past the Castle so many times I can’t come up with a number! I love my hometown. FixerUpper has been a wonderful thing for Waco.
I agree! I have driven through some of the neighborhoods they have restored and renovated houses in and they are definitely giving Waco a bit of a facelift. And I'm sure the traffic and tourism they have brought into the community helps with the economy as well! All around a good thing IMO too!
Perfection at its finest as always, beautiful and magnificent as only Chip and Jo always do. Thank you for the tour. I absolutely love it and thot the bedroom with the twin beds looked like a little princess room, I loved the beds.
@@CharlaniEveryday I am in the middle of making a quilt using William Morris prints! I love them! Just all 5” squares sewn together in a variety of colors & patterns.
I am not a fan of theirs because you can only do white walls, brown accents & gigantic wall clocks so much before it becomes tiring but this is amazing. I didn't know she could do this. It's gorgeous.
Absolutely gorgeous, and how lucky are you to have toured it!!! Do you know what the plans for the castle are? Is it just for touring or are they using it as a bed and breakfast?
We went to Waco for a trip this past June. We were looking at property to buy. I loved Waco... I want to move there so bad but my hubby does not. Seen the castle, they were still working on it.
I’m in that same boat about not agreeing on “where” to buy property with the hubs 😅 but it will all figure itself out ☑️ I’m glad you got to visit Waco!!!! And I’ll bet it was cool to see them working on the castle in real time!
The wallpaper is a William Morris design from the 19th century. Morris was a respected designer of wallpapers and fabrics. Im sure you can find the design or something you like more in production now.
Yes! I found it on Wayfair....and someone here also suggested Amazon.... so happy its available! I don't know where I'm going to use it, but I want it somewhere in my house! Thank you!
@@buddleiabee I may not have. The Gaines have done amazing things for this community there in Waco….and are very much appreciated for the jobs they’ve created and charitable work they do.
I'm a big fan of the Gaines'/Fixer Upper Team, so trust me when I say a heartfelt thank you for giving us a sneak peek. Been anxiously waiting to see what they would do with it. You did it justice!!!!. Can't wait for the series to air.... ❤️
You are so welcome! The castle is absolutely beautiful... I'm honored to have gotten to see it in person 🖤 I love this comment so much.... so THANK YOU FOR IT! I can't wait for the series to air as well!
This was a nice surprise. I'd read about the purchase and seen photos of the unfinished state of the place, but hadn't found much recent info. Chip and Joanna have done a terrific job on the entire project, and maintained the gothic/tudor/castle vibe of the original design. The wallpapers look like the traditional Arts & Craft's movement designs by William Morris. Beautiful old homes across the country are torn down for things like parking lots, and others fall into such ruin they can't be salvaged. Chip and Joanna saved this home, and as an old house restoration fan, this was wonderful to see. The dark wood glass front cabinets in the kitchen area are fabulous, and I'm right with you on those bathrooms! Thanks for sharing this.
Thank YOU for watching....and yes! Chip and Joanna did an absolute beautiful job on the restoration. And I'm glad you agree that the bathrooms were just gorgeous!
because it only has four bedrooms, i think it would be a dreamy wedding venue. just add a gazebo for outdoor ceremonies and you have a super exclusive place. i hope they keep it.
Incredibly beautiful! That woodwork is so stately and impressive, and the wood grain is stunning. I'm so glad they stayed true to the original design and feel, and didn't do some garish modern colors (like some people might when they want to "make a statement") . Even in the basement, it's classic and comfortable. Clint must have been in heaven, getting to work in this castle! TFS.
Those 2 are totally Blessed with talent, courage and fortitude for all the projects they take on. I enjoy watching them. I also hope they're enjoying their lives. I'm sure they are. They seem very balanced. Thank you for sharing. It was a beautiful tour.
What absolute detail in every room, what great pleasure seeing all the detailed beauty and character of each room. Truly magnificent artwork throughout, Chip and Joanna thank you for sharing a vision most minds could not conceive.
You are so lucky to visit this lovely castle it must be difficult not realize you’re in America and not in France or England. I would love to come to Waco to see the Magnolia shops and the Castle. Can’t wait to see their program make over. They have done a fantastic job. Thanks
I grew up in Waco too and would walk past this all the time with my mother as well as driving past it on our way to church. It is absolutely beautiful with the renovations. However, my one disappointment is that when I was a child the basement portion had a dungeon in it. All of this has been redone and that took a little of the charm out of it for me. When I was little my Sunday school class had a pet skunk that we would keep in the back building with the tower and I was one of the people to alternately go in and feed the skunk! Wonderful memories of my childhood. Thank you for doing this video.
Bummer it took a little charm out of it for you, but I'm assuming they thought that a dungeon wouldn't be a very useful space for the family who will eventually live in the home 😬 But it's so cool that you knew of the castle when you were little... that's amazing! I hope you feel like they did the rest justice because it is now beautiful, especially considering the shape it was in when they took it on! You're welcome for the video Kathy... thank you for watching 🖤
I just feel that that is the beauty of Europe that they keep all of their old structures as they were and not try to modernize them. I think a lot is lost in renovating and tearing down our old buildings and homes.
Superior job, although I would have restored the pass-down no matter the cost or struggle. Those are so handy for moving things up and downstairs. Not just food, but laundry etc.
It was definitely a cool feature and would have been awesome if it could have been restored.... but maybe we will find out why they didn't when they share the restoration on the show!
Your taping was excellent! I was able to take in every detail! I love how you capture each and every detail. I am not sure if I will be able to see it one day. So, thank you! Could I ask what phone do you have? It takes amazing video!
Such a great restoration project! I love everything, the building itself is not too small and not too big. Here in Europe we have so many neogothic places like that. I especially enjoy how they were not afraid to change purposes of rooms and switch things up a to make them more suitable for contemporary lifestyle (moving the kitchen downstairs etc) and not museum like. Also very sophisticated design and far away from a signature farmhouse style which would not work that well in such grand architecture.
new to your channel. I would love to visit this castle someday. I live in Ohio and you mentioned about the imported products for the original castle. We have 2 Piatt family castles here in Ohio, interesting story, the 2 castles were actually family homes fir them in England and they had workmen dismantle and number and label each stone and piece of wood and had it brought by ship to America then transported by train and wagon to the sites,,,, the stairway in the large castle even had built in dust "moats" along each side so the maid could dust the stairs and sweep the dirt into the moat and then swee it to the bottom of the stairway for easy cleanup
I was able to peek inside the castle years ago when it was vacant and spooky. Always hoped that someone would rescue it. Quite a job from what I gleaned from a local historian down the street.
I loved this! I can watch it 100 times! I would love to go visit one day! This will definitely be on my bucket list. Thank you so much for sharing. Just subscribed to your channel!
I cannot pick a favorite! Impossible!. Do love the black and white checked floor. Enclosed porch? Love the hall table it is magnificent. Any of the furniture come with? So many inviting places to sit. This cpl is amazing when it comes to Reno!thank you
You are so welcome... I had a great time visiting personally! I'm not sure what furniture stays.... maybe we will find out during the renovation show, which just started and aired last night!
I absolutely love Joanna’s designs she is out of all the renovations shows is my absolute favorite second would be Dave mars and his wife! But honestly Joanna has the most beautiful inspirational designs I love the way she listens to the way people want there houses and she actually visually makes it a reality!! Not only is she perfect in every design aspect but I love that she and chip are family oriented and they inspire so many of us!! I also love her cooking show I watch and have tried so many of her Recipe’s I have been so inspired by Joanna she is uplifting and also she’s helped me persevere since I’ve struggled so much with myself she has enlightened my heart to be a better person and with hard work and strength I can accomplish anything! Thank u #joannagains I love ya and all u do u are a inspiration for not just everyone but even the gay community!! There’s been rumors that you and chip are against gay people but I don’t believe that!!! So I just as a gay man i personally have felt inspired by u Joanna thank u for being a friend and also just for you being you !! You have struggled and u have persevered! Love the way you love!!! You not only love your family but u actually if u didn’t know u inspired me personally!! Thank u! You are a beautiful person inside and out and I wish one day to meet you and give u a big ass hug!!! Again thank u
You’re so welcome for the video…and yes! I love her style and vibe for sure! She is amazing and absolutely one of my faves 🥰 Do you have the Magnolia Network app on TV … there are lots of behind the scenes there too that aren’t on the “channel”… I’m glad you have found someone to inspire and motivate you. And I NEVER listen to the tabloids or gossip. Go with your gut and I feel the same way, I don’t believe that nonsense about them either. 🥰
You are welcome! I can't wait for the series as well! I'm enjoying the "Designer's Profile" Joanna did and a few of the sneak peeks and teasers they've done on the Magnolia Network! Can't wait to see how they made decisions about what to renovate and what to switch out!
OMG gorgeous! How fun that you got to tour it before the preview. Do you know if they are keeping it or using it for anything like events or something?
They will sell it ☑️ The city zoning doesn't allow for an AirBNB or any type of "business" in the area so they will put it up on the market. I think I heard towards the end of the year.
Thanks for this!!! 💕 After watching the (2) available episodes, I have spent hours scouring the internet for more photos of the finished kitchen and butlers pantry - no luck! Until the rest of the episodes air, I guess this is as good as it will get - which is a lot better than nothing, and MUCH better than the teaser glimpses featured thus far in the show! While I am happy to see they didn't "farmhouse" the snot out of it, I was a little disappointed to see all the beautiful trim painted the same color as the walls, instead of a contrast color to really highlight its beauty. 😖 This is probably a long shot, but...would you happen to have any additional photos of the kitchen/pantry? I reached out to them to see if I could pay for a virtual tour or get additional photos, but everyone I contacted at Magnolia was surprisingly unhelpful/unfriendly. The whole experience actually has me second-guessing my original plan to incorporate some of the Magnolia products featured in this property (that I really loved!) into my own kitchen renovation. 😖 We recently purchased our own 1880s home, complete with a relocated tiny main floor kitchen (ours was also originally in the basement) and I am a bit stuck for ideas. I really loved the floor to ceiling built-ins that I caught just a brief glimpse of, and would really love to see a full scale view, rather than the close-ups...if at all possible. 😊 Did you get to see the 3rd story turret tower? Apart from Chip sitting on the edge of the exterior facade, they haven't shown it at all on the show. There appears to be stairs near the primary bedroom, do those lead up to that space? I also noticed you didn't mention the "hidden room" in the basement that others have mentioned elsewhere online. Were you told to keep that quiet, or was that not featured as part of the tour? Finally, is "pass-down" the new PC term for a dumbwaiter - similar to how the "master" is now the "primary" bedroom? Or is this a regional name for it? I was really sad to see they didn't keep it, it could have been incredibly useful to send snacks down to the entertainment room below. We have one that was closed off but still retains the original framing, and hope to restore it at some point. Anyhoo...thanks again for sharing this, it was really helpful! I am really looking forward to watching the rest of the show...as I impatiently wait for each new episode! 😁
Hi there! You are so welcome for this video.... I hope you found it helpful! I do not have photos.... I only filmed.... so what you see is what I've got! I'll bet that as the show airs and more episodes are released, more photos will emerge as well. I did not see the turret tower. There are stairs leading up to it, but it was blocked off when I was there. If I remember correctly, they said there wasn't anything to "see" up there, It may have been used for storage or housing the AC units. I showed all the rooms.. Maybe the "hidden room" you're talking about was the laundry room, empty room, and/or bathroom area down in the basement. I called the dumbwaiter a "pass-down" because I could NOT remember "dumbwaiter" when I was voice-overing... 🤷🏻♀️ I am "impatiently" waiting for the new episodes too! I love just about everything they did... and can't wait to see how/why they decided to renovate as they did!
@@CharlaniEveryday apparently there is a hidden panel ("trick") door to a bonus room off the card room in the basement, so I'm guessing you would definitely know that it was meant to be hidden if it was shown to you. I will try to link the blog the mentions it separately below, but it may not work since YT is weird about sharing links. 🙄
Thank you for sharing your experience touring this beautiful castle. I am a Texan (Fort Worth, presently) and thinking seriously about moving to Waco. Can't wait to tour this exquisite property. Love the Gaines Family and the outcome of ALL their renovations. ❤
You are so welcome Ruth! I'm in Frisco.... so not too far from Fort Worth. There are definitely some very cool areas in Waco....and i loved touring this castle. Hopefully you can tour it before they put in up for sale!
It's just more plain Jane black/ white/ grey nothing special. Everything she does looks exactly the same, not hard to " replicate", lol. But it's better than the orange weird it was before they decided to sell it .Nobody wanted it!
$50/hour tour!?... Water the wilted plant already! Tho JG is talented, they've commercialized & monetized everything in their lives. Not as much fun. And somebody, PLEASE, water that plant!
We welcome you to come and visit our castle once we finish. It might be a few years because we have a LOT of work left to do. If you watch our channel you will know when we finish.
When I watch these shows by different individuals, I always find myself comparing them to the Gaines high standards of rehabbing. Windy City Rehab actually had some buyers complain about the poor quality of construction and structural issues when they purchased a WCR home. I am a perfectionist when it comes to paint jobs; they should look perfect with impeccably clean detailing and lines.
The Gaines definitely do great work and it shows on this project for sure! I wouldn't say I'm a perfectionist by any means, but I do my best on my own projects, especially with the detailing and lines. But I definitely wouldn't say "impeccable" is what I strive for 😅 If I put that pressure on myself, I would never even begin a project! LOL
I have deep ties to Waco. My great grandfather moved there mid 1800s. My grandfather, an early grad of TX A&M grew up near there in a big family with a ranch not far out of town. The family home my ggf built upon arrival was still in the family until around five yrs ago. We visited my dad's two ole maid aunt, schoolteachers still in the family home a century after it was built. Those aunts donated land for a school, a church and still passed on an inheritance of 70+ acres to their nieces and nephews. The heirs list grew from less than 20 to around 45. No one wanted the responsibility of running the estate but a few elders wouldn't relinquish control. I had my own operation to run so I stayed out of the drama. I wish I'd had more time to visit my extended family around there before they all passed. I'd have plenty of questions for them now that I have my children grown and out of the nest. My Uncle was a manager in the glass manufacturing plant that made soft drink bottles. He toured us through the plant in the early 60s.
That is amazing family history @RT3.... sounds like a beautiful life that part of your family lived. Hard work, but beautiful as well...Thanks for sharing!
@@CharlaniEveryday I'm very happy to see Waco being promoted. Not too many yrs back it was the brunt of constant ridicule across the whole US. Unmentionable. I now regret I postponed this extended genealogical research until retirement. Having time to pick the brain's of my relatives based in Waco their whole lives would have been wonderful.
$50.00 to tour a home.... Absolutely ridiculous!!! First of all it isn't a European Castle, it is a home in Waco not a castle. There is a huge difference. Why would you pay $50.00 on something you can sit watch on tv. There are true historians that do renos for the love of a building then, there are those that are in it for the money. Prime example, in it for the money!! I use to enjoy the show however, a little bit of Chip Gaines is by far too much. My opinion which we are all untitled to..
The $50 goes to charity and I absolutely am so happy I was able to tour it! The home is absolutely beautiful and I appreciate the option to see it in person ❤️
Oh my gosh where have I been this is so beautiful!! Do you happen to remember if that tree (3:39) is real and if you know what kind of tree it is? Thank you for sharing, I enjoyed this tour!
Right??!! It's absolutely beautiful! I'm assuming it's real, I don't recall noticing anything artificial regarding the greenery, but I'm not sure what it is.
I just watched the Castle renovation show and wanted more! Thanks for sharing! I was curious- did they keep access to the roof? Looks like there's a turret up there. ❤❤
I do not know the color BUT I am positive that it is probably somewhere online! I know the paint colors will be released in their new line of paints, not sure if it's been released yet. But it IS absolutely beautiful. That pantry was one of my favorite spaces!!!
13:45 this was an incredible space… I never knew Texas had such a beautiful historical buildings like this.. I am definitely inspired. Thanks for sharing
I headed to Magnolia Market in the next few days.... I'll have to ask if the Castle is also decorated! You're right.... that would absolutely be AWESOME to see!
The colors are so soothing, and the balance of the furniture and the lighting are perfectly matched, creating a very dignified atmosphere. I presume the estate was built around 1900 or shortly before since I could not detect any Jugendstil or Art deco. Jo and Chip have positively influenced and changed the often tacky taste of many Americans. Good taste can also be learned by visiting Europe.
Fair enough! But I think some of it was replaced because of damage or was painted because there was too much damage to restore to it's wooden glory. But I get it!
Wow! I love Chip & Joanna & their content but, $50 a ticket for the tour? I just check the tour price of The Breakers in Newport, RI and it's only $29? The place looks great though...
@@CharlaniEveryday Oh! Okay... So is/was that price temporary? I ask because we're traveling to Denton next week and thought of driving the 2 hours down to check the place out.
It IS!!!! And I’d gone back…. And the tub isn’t connected to a “drain”…. You remove the plug and it drains right onto the floor and into the drain by the shower! It’s so cool!
Hi there! And welcome! So from what I understand, Chip had been looking at this home for years and was finally able to purchase it when it went on the market. And yeah.... don't see many castles in Texas but the neighborhood it's in is a bit eclectic, so somehow it works!
This is out of place in America this old English style castle. As America is only about a hundred years old and a modern country its seems it of place some how.
Maybe….it’s still beautiful though! And the neighborhood is a bit eclectic too….so I think it fits in beautifully. Either way, it’s preserved history which is really neat!
This is a masterpiece, no doubt! 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼 You know it’s BEYOND special when you see a laundry 🧺 room and you SO want to wash your clothes 🫧 there!! Maybe they should include that in the tour 😂
