It's my 3rd year of growing Magnolia soulangeana. Bought it online. Its about 25 inches with lots of stems and big healthy leaves but not a single flower so far... planted it in the ground last week. Any idea why it has not flowered ?Your suggestions will be greatly appreciated. My neighbour has it in the same spot in her garden and it flowers profusely 😞
Probably, you should wait one or two seasons more... However, a little trimming might help to make it flower earlier in its life, simply google "how to trim magnolia". Caveats: do not trim it later then in early spring, and do not over-trim it, it might simply die.
@@plant_stories Thanks so much for replying. Its not early spring now :( Is it ok to still trim my magnolia? I'll look up videos on how to trim once I have heard from you :)
All plants like magnesium because chlorophyll contains one atom of magnesium per molecule. But generally, for magnolias it is recommended the slightly acidic soil (pH about 5.5-6.5), whereas the excess of magnesium will make soils more alkaline.
Both of thoses trees you showed are soulangeana, not liliflora. Liliflora is a smaller bush-like and the flower petals of soulangrania are larger than liliflora.
Well, this is possible, thanks. This is from the key in "European garden flora": === Shrub; flowers continuing to appear with the leaves; stipule-scars extending almost to the base of the leaf-blades, the blades often decurrent along the stalk, and with hairs along the mid-vein, or hairless beneath ... Magnolia liliiflora -- Large shrub or usually a tree; flowers primarily before the leaves, some appearing with the leaves; stipule-scars small, basal, the leaf-blade not decurrent, usually finely hairy over the lower surface ... Magnolia x soulangiana ===
