I talk about the British band Magnum and how I feel they're underrated. I also talk about the 5 albums I have and also include song samples. I tried to be cute with the avatar I don't think it looks to good haha. I'll keep it though.
Here is the video I mentioned of Tony and Bob talking about some of their music videos:

I was lucky enough to play in the support band for a pre-tour warm up gig they did in the Highlands many years ago. You'll never meet a nicer bunch of guys. RIP Tony Clarkin

Nice to see one of our friends from across the pond appreciating Magnum. They never managed to break over there, despite a concerted effort by Polydor in the late 80's (even drafting in Russ Ballard to co-write a radio friendly hit - Rockin' Chair). Sadly, as Tony was the sole songwriter for the entirety of the band's 52 year career, Here Comes The Rain will be the end of the road. I would highly recommend trying to pick up a copy of the Living The Dream DVD (20th anniversary of On A Storyteller's Night live performance). Keep your night light burning! Ian (Magnum fan of 45 years, and 123 live shows)

Glad to talk about Magnum and similiar underappreciated bands. That's one point of my channel give love to those bands. I listen to a lot of bands especially once grunge hit from Europe. I want to live there pretty much consider myself European haha. I didn't know he wrote that but I do like since you've been gone and God gave rock and roll to you. I figured he was every song I saw had his credit at least partially. I didn't even know he was sick. They have tons of live and compilation albums. I have wings of heaven forgot to show it and I'd like to get Mirardor comp among others. I will check that live album out you mentioned. 123 live shows wow amazing mad respect! Most I've seen is Poison 10 times lol 😆 I live far away from big cities so that doesn't help location is crap. The world will miss Tony Clarkin for sure big loss R.I.P. Tony

Thanks for this review - those three albums (On A Storytellers Night, Vigilante & Wings Of Heaven) are just sublime - one of the best trilogies of albums ever. Thanks for mentioning the song Dont Wake The Lion - such an epic track - probably my favourite Magnum song. That said check out the song Stormy Weather from their Sleepwalking album - could also be my fav Magnum song - amazing. I saw them live 3 times - 1985, 1986 and 1988 - in Northern Ireland. They came here during 'The Troubles' which was big and brave of them.

They were great on the 80s helluva run of albums but those 3 were the height I think of their careers. I have sleepwalking on my wishlist on discogs. I listened to it it's pretty epic like don't wake the lion is mid pace moody good stuff. That's great you got to see them during "the troubles". I remember growing up hearing about how bad it was like the Omagh bombing hunger strikes and such. I was there myself in summer 2017. It's crazy to sew murals with guys in ski masks holding ak-47s painted on billboards. I was told though you may still want to not wear wrong colors in certain pubs. Didn't they have more riots recently? I think holy wars by megadeth was based on them playing during troubles and their bus got pelted with rocks and debris. I remember Dave Mustaine talking about it. Crazy times in the past in Northern Ireland. Oh I do know Magnum toured for Chase the Dragon here in the states but not sure any major tours after don't think so maybe only select dates if that.

Magnum does not have a bad album. 23 studio, many compilations and sets, and many live albums - ALL great! By the way the new album is awesome! Fantastic musicians. Tony wrote the words, produced the albums so the albums sound great and he was the lead guitarist. Bob Catlay delivers great vocals, the drumming, keyboards and bass are also crystal clear on every album. Great, great, great band! You nailed what Magnum is in this video.

Yup they were so underappreciated on this side of the Atlantic. One of those bands were you can listen to all the tracks of every album and not feel need to change any songs. Tony really did it all for them. In a way he was like Neil Peart of Rush wrote all the songs and it went through him and just like Rush not a bad album. It's crazy how many comps and live albums Magnum has and they're also excellent and the artwork is so killer on them as well. We probably won't see another band like them again in fact bands today can't hold a candle to these bands.

This was a band I always meant to check out and for a while I thought they were a power metal band because of their album covers would suggest so 😅 thanks for this

Lol I've always said Power Metal bands have the best covers these guys def have the fantasy album covers down but more aor and melodic. Asia is another one that's now power metal with a lot of stunning artwork.

@@Riky_Jones I don't have nearly half of them but you know what? I don't need to. I'm on a budget and I could do one eventually once I hear them all. I already have a top 2. Very underrated band. Last year, I was at a bar drinking and a guy from NYC came in and we talked Riot for a few minutes lol Also, a NEW album is coming this year.

Prog......I think they failed as a band if you like prog, some bands went soul in the 80's not hard rock. Well at least Bowie and genesis went soul.
@retro_wanderluster9962
@retro_wanderluster9962 6 месяцев назад
I'm not much of a prog fan minus Rush, Asia, some Queensryche Royal Hunt maybe a few others. They def weren't traditional prog but had a little hint of it at the start I'd say. I think with Peter Gabriel they def were strange and proggy and Bowie is a chameleon he did all types of music and very well. Those 2 you listed def were not hard rock more rock and pop rock and various genres.
