Troll openings is a little strong. 1.b3 is "I'm the positional god, get over it". Magnus doesn't need to troll when he plays 1.f3!! in real torunaments.
No, he didnt. Hikaru wins 90% of titled tuesdays. There is a 10% that a random other dude will win when hikaru is having a bad day. It’s unrealistic to expect hikaru to win every single event twice a week. If it was hikaru magnus in finals then i would say youre right, but hikaru didnt even finish the event. Magnus won the even hikaru normally wins when hikaru leaves the event.
@@cooldes4593 bruh idk where all this emotion is coming from but the guy is talking about Blitz rating, not TT. Magnus objectively surpassed Hikaru in the Blitz leaderboard, and that was all that was said. I'm sure Hikaru is proud of you tho, you're a loyal soldier.
I feel like a lot of players have studied engines but Magnus is the one that have adopted to it most and understands the engine way of thinking. Like a lot of strong players understand the purposes of the lines once they see them, but Magnus understand their strategy and ideas well enough to implement it in practical play.
I honestly love how much respect Levy has for Magnus. Levy is an IM probably better than 99% of chess players in the world, but when he reviews Magnus’ games you can tell he’s in awe because Magnus really is that good. Magnus is just on a level by himself, and I like the fact that Levy acknowledges that and doesn’t pretend to know and understand everything Magnus does.
My favorite example of how ahead of everyone Magnus is, is when Jan Gustafsson played Magnus without knowing it, and he kept saying something along the lines of ' these moves doesn't make any sense to me, but I'm worse somehow' absolutely befuddled by how his opponent was playing.
My favorite part is when Magnus Carlsen uses Monster Reborn to get the offensive advantage and attack his opponents life points for game, sending A-Fier to the Shadow Realm
*When Magnus arrives , hikaru got nervous and started caring...* Next time hikaru must make sure next time he literally absolutely definitely don't care ...the hika -magnus love stories are true... It's like seeing your crush and wanting to impress only to trip and fall down
levy you're an inspiration, I think that chess was something that really helped me cope with my depression and it's really all thanks to you. I never really understood the saying that one person could change another person's whole life, but you really made me so much happier and healthier. I really hope you continue the amazing content you put out there :)
I dont understand this comment at all. Principally speaking if you are depressed lets say...humm...because politics, food, bad financial situation, anything really...so lets pretend its love youre depressed about for a second - either you need to stop caring or you need to be in love with Levy. In any other case, if its any other person in the world, Levy will have no impact on your depression whatsovever. Maybe distract you a little bit, let you forget about it for two hours. Maybe. But then youll end up depressed again. So whats this nonsense about coping with depression and helped me overcome my insecurities thats appearing on every single youtube video of anyone big and important? Can anyone explain pls? I am genuinely interested in any logical explanation.
There is a big chance that gothamchess doesnt see this, but thank you for introducing chess to me, you have really changed my life, and have gotten me motivated to do other things. Thanks again Gotham, and I love your channel keep up the great work.
"I'll make a way!!" Magnus on another level even for him. Performance at 3355!? Game 3: Ra2, Qa1!? Beating GMs into paste seemingly at will!? Thanks for explaining all of these games and the Reti theory. Great recap!
I love your recaps levy but I'm really digging these Subtle little yugioh references your sprinkling in lately I'm a big chess and yugioh fan please keep it up it gives me a good chuckle 😃 😀 😄
Magnus Carlsen is hell. He is hell on the chessboard. I'm not even upset he doesn't want to play in the WCC anymore. He's just unequivocally better than everyone else. It's like Lebron James in the 2010s. You cannot even begin to form an argument for anyone else.
Good comparison but i think he is on a different level from his competition in a way that the nba has never even seen, maybe like bird or kemba in march madness
@@e50s65 it's hard to compare team sports, but chess players have quite a bit in common with various martial artists, wrestlers and boxers. I would think he is closer to a Khabib Nurmagomedov. He was extremely methodical. On the ground, he would force fighters into worse and worse positions with no escape, just a choice of stay here and quit, or move to the next position and continue until they would finally submit. It wasn't flashy, and everyone knew it was coming, but no one could stop it.
Genuinely can not fathom that while in a position of equal material, with good and solid pawn structure and an active queen, this man decides to trade off his own active queen for blacks passive one, doubling his pawns in the process, calculating that his active rooks are enough to win the queenside pawns and more, all in a blitz game??? He’s on another level to everyone else. A move that breaks a ton of principles with such fast calculation that it’s better for him, and it’s the top engine move.
Who am I to tell...but I feel like he could focus a bit on his king side attack by bringing more pieces, since he already had tons of space with f and g pawns. That ra2 move seemed way too patient. But again, I'm not even a CM, imagine playing against Magnus lol
Other players : *captures an opponent piece to take it out of the game* Magnus: "here's a sleeping pill bro I'll see ya later when i come to kill you lol"
I'm from Mexico and I love your videos, I dont know how I understand every word you say like you were speaking in spanish, you are very talented and have a natural skill to comunicate, I also love your jokes and expresions, like when you said "and Magnus takes 3 pawns" and stare to the camera :D yeah... Magnus is amazing, but you are too in a very different way, I like your essence and charisma, you are a very genuine person. You are the kind of guy that I would like to have as a friend, but i dont feel the same for Magnus or Hikaru (I dislike Hikaru btw) you have made my days Levy, thanks for being there.
As a new player to chess I really enjoy the long commentaries and the in depth explanations with the fun flow of "oh shit, in comes the artillery" I'm new to your channel and really enjoying your content!
There’s no Brazilian names, but you know that. What’s the origin of Fier? Do you know? In Portuguese, it would actually sound “fee-ER”. I can’t figure it out from where “FEE-er” could have come.
@@prsancho of course there are Brazilian names (family names), what you talking about? Being a former Portuguese colony doesn't exclude the fact that there where people here before. On the other subject, I don't know the origin of his name, but you can check on his channel or on Xadrez Brasil series of videos about Brazilian GMs (for portuguese speakers)
@@prsancho If I had to guess, maybe a latinization of the germanic Vier (quatro/four), pronounced "Fear" in german. No idea if the guy has germanic ancestry, tho.
I dunno if anyone else has said this but I do like the random Yugioh jokes that have been tossed in lately, they're such non sequiturs that its pretty funny when they come out of nowhere in the middle of a game.
Hey Levy. Great commentary. When Magnus is on his game like this, you can easily tell he is just playing a different level. So fun watching these. Don’t listen too much to the haters. Popularity brings on a certain amount of negativity. Your channel continues to be strong.
LMAO, "when Magnus plays moves, you pay attention and don't ask questions" 🤣🤣😂 btw, I love your russian names pronunciations. Russian parents/relatives by any chance?
I have not either. Even Levy has not beaten me nor even the pretty Botez gremlin. None of them have defeated me ! I need not worry about Anna Cramling or Hikaru, they will never beat me.
Appreciating Levy for sneaking in more and more YGO references. Also improving on the pronunciation of random GM names from countries that just sound like Namekian to regular folks. Huge props, keep up the good work!
I have this image in my head of Magnus showing up to the pickup basketball court, popsicle in his mouth, reverse-dunking on the current King-of-the-Court, and walking off to smell the flowers. SO good!
The end of game 3 it always confuses me when players of this caliber resign when there are so many steps still left before a checkmate? Like, what am I missing? I just ran it in stockfish a few times making more human but still elite level moves here and there and it’s like 20 moves minimum til mate, and while yes white won in stockfish unless I inputted a dumb move because white has the advantage and the computer will play out with exact probability every time, why would that mean that white has so much of an advantage that it’s impossible not to lose in a human match here?? Can someone explain this to me please.
High caliber players can calculate the accuracy of their moves in comparison to their opponent and can predict losing many many moves before so its in everyone's interest, both in saving time and avoiding embarrassment to resign.
The players understand the position well enough to know when they don't have any chances to win. They can tell when they're position is completely lost even if there's no forced mate. It's just disrespectful of both player's time to keep going, and hoping the opponent is going to blunder then it's even more disrespectful. At lower levels you would never resign in a situation like that because your opponent often will miss something, or even stalemate. At higher levels it's just disrespectful to hope for something like that.
@20:29 Magnus is so good White played d4 and ended up in a Sicilian hedgehog. Note the Maroxi bind and the absense of white d pawn and black c pawn. That magnificent Norweigan hippo is quite flexible to transposition.
When magnus moves a bishop and doesn't move it again for 30 moves "Wow, look at that bishop, he never even had to move it again" When magnus' enemies move their bishop and don't move it again for 30 moves "It never moved! Look at that, that bishop is so bad!"
