My fear is that Fabi is going to retire from competitive chess because he’s such a damn good commentator!! 😀 It’s truly a privilege to have his insights during the game.

Yup, and Fabi sees things that literally only he and maybe 2 or 3 other players in the world can see. So you're getting someone that, other than the men playing at the board, and maybe 1 or 2 other people, can see things no other human is capable of.

Kramnik played Magnus when he was a teenager. He said he once played 36 moves in a row to defend a difficult endgame, with almost perfect accuracy. And he only had ten seconds on the clock for practically every move. Kramnik said that he then realised that not only would he one day be world champion, but that he would be the Federer of chess - dominating for years and years.

Indeed, it was a classic Carlsen end game. He just keeps the pressure up and gives his opponent plenty of opportunities to make a mistake. Against an average grandmaster like Firouzja, it only took a dozen turns - remember when Firouzja lost the opposition? - but against Nepo, it took well over 50 moves even after an end game was reached.

Wasn't his endgame always one of his strongest attributes? Wikipedia has this quote from 2013 regarding the "Carlsen Effect": "... through the combined force of his skill and no less important his reputation, he drives his opponents into errors. ... He plays on for ever, calmly, methodically and, perhaps most importantly of all, without fear: calculating superbly, with very few outright mistakes and a good proportion of the "very best" moves. This makes him a monster and makes many opponents wilt."

Two rooks for a queen is considered an equal trade in terms of material. If you get an extra pawn besides the queen, which would be 10 points, it's already likely equivalent to being up a pawn. But it's dependent on the position in each specific case, many considerations have to be made. The queen dominates in some positions and, likewise, the two rooks can dominate in others
@physicist2337
@physicist2337 2 года назад
It depends on the specific position. Generally, 2 rooks are better than a queen in an endgame, but there are exceptions, particularly with the bishop vs. knight imbalance that was on the board. Here, it created even more imbalance, giving more winning chances to Ian (and Magnus.)

Facts. Maybe Kasparov as 2nd and Fischer or Anand as 3rd and 4th.

Fischer used no engines and crushed the Russians 7-0 multiple times. Fischer is the true Wizard of Chess and the GOAT.

where can you find a summary of the action, minus the amateurish commentary? - i mean, if you have two of the best chess players playing, do you really think you're so much better, that the world needs to hear your specific take on the actions that each player takes? - if it were true, then that would mean you should be seated opposite Carlsen - clearly, not the case. it's like people don't actually want to hear the excess commentary, they want to see the genius unfold for itself - only.

Magnus was lucky, he lost his Queen and still won somehow

He blundered the Queen, but Nepo blundered a Rook, a Knight and two pawns, and eventually his King too. That's why Magnus won.

@@villyexplorer9482 Nope, his queen forced him a divorce. She felt that Magnus would later in the game get another, younger queen instead of her. I've enjoyed chess for the last 50+ years or so My favorite players in order are Tal, Fischer, and Kasparov The best way for me to describe current world chess championships is 'Supreme Prevention' For me this is very boring

You may be right But I've enjoyed analyzing every chess championship chess game played And the many chess books in my library As well as many of the excellent things you've posted on the internet! Despite what you may think of my chess knowledge I think I know more than the average John Doe on the street Chess popularity is up at the moment Not due to the exquisite beauty of modern games But due to 'Queen's Gambit.' Unless there is a sequel, interest in chess will decline again

Definatetly ME. Worst Chess commentary I have EVER seen. Too fast. And two too many commentators. Going to look for the commentary from that Russian(?) Chess Master. Bye for now.
