In 1916 the Borough of Mahanoy City, PA had reached its fifty-third birthday. In those fifty-three years, Mahanoy City had grown from a few dozen frame houses and a handful of businesses to become what was know as the "City on the Level", a thriving borough of almost 17,000 people served by over 600 businesses, twenty churches, six schools, two railroad lines and a trolley system. Mahanoy City 1916 contains original video footage from that period.
