Maharaja is an example of how important a screenplay of a film is, the screenplay was brilliant

Another detail you missed....everytime Anurag gave his daughter gift which he stole, his daughter always refused....when he bought that tea pot she refused to take and Anurag threw it in the dustbin.....and finally in the end too....the chain he bought for his daughter from the money he stole....the daughter threw that back to him and told to take away even without her knowledge.

When anurag enters the salon, he explains his address to a delivery guy. Thats how vjs found his house

They spent so much time showing Anurags family not to humanise him but to show the bond between him and his daughter and his intense love for her. His daughter was his everything and he did that to her. Knowing the background, the climax reveal is that much more impactful.

SNAKE METAPHOR in the movie: "Snakes eat their own eggs, they don't recognise their own babies"... Selvam is that snake. And the last scene of the movie where her footprint filled with Anurag's blood was another significance, Anurag used to kiss his daughter's feet every time. You're welcome

The snake is symbolic of Selvam's character. A snake is unable to identify its own offsprings and can eat its own eggs / child.

The detail where he takes a min to drink water every time before he starts to narrate the story just so he could press his emotions. What a masterpiece❤

@3:15 the reason to show Wife daughter coming in bike is to show that police have a daughter, and he knows the pain of the Father. Thats why he supports Maharaja in the later part of the story. Thats why we need Achara she would have picked it right away.

Common guys, after you watched so many movies, how the hell you missed all the clues along the movie😂

The deep message is "Even washing her leg with his blood does not absolve him of his sin".

He found anurag kashyap place because he was telling to workers to reach his home by giving them his address, when he entered vijay's shop

Achara makes Jaby be more understanding and emotional. He would have cried like a child

The red diamond is symbolic to the blood in her daughter footprint

Jaby and Steph is a bad combo for such movies. Achara is needed for such detailed ones. And Kristen for the tears haha.

If you had understood this, the cops are really honest at heart. Even the first case of bribery, they do it to inflict pain on a cocky govt officer who is corrupt by core, and you can see the cops handing over the money to the poor person who accepts the robbery charge and goes to jail.

That dustbin originally owned by the rapist. After he got arrested, his wife moved elsewhere with that dustbin. Where they met the accident where maharaja lost his family, but that dustbin saved the villain's daughter. And Maharaja reared that daughter like his own. What a journey!

The director was genius in showing flashbacks without showing timelines where we get confused whether it's past or present and he even gives importance even to the small objects, like in this film like the dustbin, necklace, etc.. you should even see his "Kurangu Bommai" it's a genius film....

Don't ask WHY till movie ends. Wait. Insted of asking why in middle of the movie, focus. Then you don't have to ask HOW this happened that happened.

You need to re-watch again again to understand how the director has played his game. This is master piece in screenplay writing. 😍

The part with Anurag Kashyap's family couldn't have been cut. They were all crucial clues. The daughter having the condition on the shoulder, the necklace and the first time VJS and AK's characters cross paths. There is legit no meat in this movie to be cut off. You guys missed most of the clues including the fact that the daughter's condition was talked about in the past. AK explains how something from the "loft" fell on her. It's kinda poetic because Lakshmi fell from the same loft and saved her from the truck later. And had that condition not been there, AK would've never understood that it's his Ammu.

“WHAT GOES AROUND COMES AROUND” was the tagline when they first announced the movie. That’s the core of this movie. Though I have issues with that concept, it’s a well made movie 👏👏👏

Hop u guys understand:-❤ 1.The Dustbin was never theft, maharaja just wanted to somehow stay in police station to search other cop man out of 3, that was hinted by guy killed by maharaja. He placed the dustbin in hospital 2. In movie it looks that her daughter goes for event then dustbin got lost..... But it's not true, when she came back from event than the crime happens. 3. When maharaja wakes up in his house, he saw a toll receipt of a car than he found that white dressed big guy in bar after that other guy came to fight with him then he understand that the car was used by other guy.

This movie is a mix of two generations at the same time. The dust bin named Lakshmi( the Goddess of wealth is referred to the daughter). And the dustbin was anurag kashyap’s which later saved her daughter and Vijay took care of both of them after that accident. As you were discussing about it in the end; this movie has a great message for women abuse and tortures which in real life is happening in India and a lot of places globally.

Maharaja is a good film with a brilliant screenplay, it shows how important a screenplay of a film is

What steph said about the extent the movie went..... it's actually necessary for Indians.....for that intensity only this movie left a deep impression and many cried in the end.

Maharaja was a introvert but he knew that he will get justice in the “corrupted” system so he wanted to eliminate the trouble makers himself..he went to police coz the first be-headed guy told him that one of the guy was a police person..so he went to police station to check back of all police personnels..but fortunately at the end police department supported him❤

If the movie was exactly moving on time like you said, this story wouldn’t reach this level as this one reached. Well done director

The dustbin was on anurags house from the beginning and that was on our face And thats why at the end when they went to anurags house the dustbin fell and saved his daughter from the accident You can notice all the time maharaja was in police station he was trying to touch everyone's back to check who has an ear on their back and he was writing their names on the paper and striking it Maharaja found out about the suv from the toll tax slip that somehow fell from that guy during all that horrific incident was happening, and about how maharaja got to know where anurag lives, he overheard him on his phone when he was guiding the delivery guy the route to his house About how police found out about nallasivam Its that when they showed us that they were on the place and both the policemen were working on same case one named maharaja one illayaraja They found that thiefs phone lying there (the one who's maharaja cut the head of) and from his phone he checked that nalla sivam was calling him and eventually got the details of anurag as well The police suspected that he must not be there just for a dustbin so they were actually working to find the cause behind it.

Mahara has one of the best climaxes in Indian cinema history, All thanks to its brilliant screenplay

Why is he late when his daughter is at home? That makes no sense... because she gave her shoe to her friend at camp, so she asked her dad to buy a new one, and he did.

So the dustbin was always at anurag kashyap's house. After that truck accident maharaj took it with himself. This movie feels different for the first time, but very different from the second time I watch. There are so many hidden details like the whole leg things. In the bracelet, in the end. The snake significance. Brilliant screen play.

I give respect for jaby for understanding tamil comedy. I think tamil thriller is not his thing. We should recommend tamil comedy movie for him to watch. I like how he understand tamil comedy so well. Looking forward more reaction from jaby.

Movie is about Karma… it always comes back… whatever the Villain wants to give his daughter… it never reaches her… point being the necklace…whatever hero does.. it reaches the person intended to.. Hero has his head held high and vice versa for the villain… see the minute details put even in the trailer and the posters… screenplay was brilliant… it’s not perfect… but that makes it beautiful…

Alright jaby while watching the video i saw that u guys were little off on how things were getting connected in the screenplay so ill just put the story in linear format as far as my understanding so its a simple story with brilliant screenplay * anurag and his crime partner are continuously involved in robbery and killing the victims and while robbing anurag has a hobby of collecting small attractive items in the home that his daughter may find it cute to play * anurag has a wife and daughter who he loves more than a world * the dustbin in the movie what vijay claims in the police station is actually anurags own dustbin * so after a recent robbery in a home( in movie u may have seen this as the intro shot of anurag a married woman and daughter where he kills) anurag has a lump sump money so he decides to get a lovely chain for his daughter on behalf of her bday present * parallely the story shifts to vijay sethupathis life ( moving on will refer his name as VJS) where hes a barber working under his owner ( the very first shot in the movie) * VjS requests for a day off the next day hence as a punishment the owner ask him to cut all the customers hair who will be visiting the shop * VJS accepts and proceeds and in the same time anurag and his wife is having a conversation regarding the decoration setup for the birthday party of their daughter and anurags wife asks anurag to get a trim of his beard * guess what happens anurag coincidentally goes to VJS shop for a cut while he was entering the shop anurag was on a call with one of the party decoration member where he was giving the directions to his house on the package to be delivered ( i explained this here bcz many has doubt how vjs went to anurags home in the later scene) * then later anurags sits down to get a trim and while vjs does his work the battery in the trimmer gets low hence vjs says to anurag that he will go get a battery from near by shop meantime anurags crime partner calls him regarding their burgalary news stated in the newspaper , immediately anurag gets the newspapers laying beside him to check the context written and anurag says his partner not to worry that their identity is still not clear in news paper and while the conversation ends anurag turns back to VJS standing behind him BNAG !!! uFFF!! * now u wold have guessed what would have happened anurag misinterprets that vjs would have overheard their convo later the trim anurag leavs the shop * once anurag goes to home his mind is fully occupies on vjs thoughts on the tension he actully left the chain he brought for his daughter in the barber shop and tries to go get it * at the sametime vjs discovers the chain in his shop and decides to return to anurags home and once he reached anurags home again coincidentally police arrives to anurags home to catch them and guess what again anurag mistakes that vjs said the police so anurag leavs with humiliation in front of his wife and anger in his eyes while passing vjs * after this incident took place anurags wife moves to a different home bcz of the guilt and ashamed , vjs and his wife goes to anurags wife to return the chain and wanted to explain her that vjs was not the reason anurag was got caught it was a pure mistake * during this convo happening vjs wife ask vjs to get a gift for anurags daughter from the opposite shop , while vjs was purchasing the gift a truck collapses the building and vjs wife and his daughter dies on spot meanwhile anurags wife also dies on spot whereas anurags daughter johthi survives by getting covered by lakshmi(dustbin) over her head * later after years vjs moves to a house which is far away from prime city in fear of the truck accident happend since the house was located near the mainroad * vjs and his daughter (jothi) are living happily and as the screens play passes the movie says how vjs character his on how he is being stubborn if he decides to take upon ( school scene) * as time passes anurag gets out of the prision and his gathers two people to take revenge on vjs family moving on ill refer the two people (one as car service guy and another as police informer the fat bald one) * anurag learns that vjs and his daughter survived the crash ( he doesnt know that his daughter and vjs survived he mistook thinking vjs original daughter seriously man this charac how many blunders) *while anurags partner i.e police informer tails vjs on his daily activities on when he starts when he returns home and everything for some while * meantime one fine day vjs daughter jothi gets a school sports activity so she will be going to place and will be staying for a day or two knowing about this that vjs will be alone anurag plans to get revenge on vjs so they enter into vjs house and are awaiting for vjs to enter the house so that they can take revenge * but unfortunately jothi enters the house before vjs being home since she asked her dad to get a shoe that took him time , the preps in the house rapes and beats jothi and leave the house in bad condition since they got frustrated for waiting on vjs on long time * later vjs comes home and get details from her daughter on who made her this condition ( so the daughter said vjs that there were 3 of them where one of the guy had a hump kind of thing on his back ) , after hearing all this vjs losses is mind and wrecks the whole house and faints down after some time he sees a toll plaza ticket layed on the floor ( ill the share the story what it is) * ione of the prep i.e car service guy's toll plaza ticket/reciept is laying down on the floor during the fight with jothi ( actually what happened was the service guy took a customer's car without his permission which he gave to workshop for service while coming to vjs house on the day of incident he crossed a toll plaza that reciept was that) * next day morning after the incident happend a very big fat guy who is the owner of the car that the prep took comes to workshop and trashes the prep for taking his car and using hit ,on the same day night the prep follows the fat guy and goes to bar and smashes his head and all of this was being watched by vjs silently in the crowd ( wait why how? vjs came ill explain that now : on the day of incident vjs notices a recipt of the toll plaza which later his tracks down to find the owner of the car and ultimately vjs also goes to bar on search of the car during this time the prep came and attacked the fat guy ) * after the prep leaves the bar vjs tails him bcz he comes to know hes one of the guy who made his daughter this state ( but how did he find ? go and watch the movie and if u found say it) later vjs fights with him and kills him during the fight vjs ear getting hurt and his tigh * now the next day morning goes to the police station claiming his dustbin his missing ( why did he do that ? bcz if it was normal rape case police wont care thats the sad truth in india , in order to make it interesting he came with the dustbin and is willing to spend how much money also) * meanwhile the police inspector charac is revealed in the movie( on how greedy hes on money) this makes vjs to plot a bait for inspector to take the case so that he is willing to bribe him how much he wants * police later takes on the case trying to toy with vjs on extracting more money and vjs was ready to spend and the story he conveyed to cops was he himself impersonating in his daughters positition on what happend that night ( excluding the rape) * the greedy cops decide to make a duplicate dustbin so that they can convince maharaja that they found and can move on with the money , after n number of attempts to make a contact with proper weldsmith they ask help for the police informer(the one who raped jothi) unkowingly he was a culprit , he also agrees to help and making the dustbin duplicate withiut knowinf he is involved in vjs case * one fine day the car owner i.e the fat guy was asked come to police station as a compliant was made by the workshop owner on the car service guy missing , little we know that vjs already killed him * while the police track down the phone of the service guy they come to know after an investigation that the police informer ,this guy and anurag has involved in the rape of vjs daughter * once the duplciate dustbin was made the now the police tries to get a guy who has to accept that he has stolen the dustbin from vjs house ,later nobody agrees andploce inspector asks the informant to accept that he stole vjs dustbin at that very moment the guy knew that this was vjs dustbin and he started to hesitate to accept but the police played along with the informant that they knew nothing regarding the jothi incident , * police the next day goes to vjs house and ask the informant to enact how their gang did the dustbin robbery but the informant enacted on waht happend to the night for jothi during the act vjs comes to know that this guy was involved in the rape , later police also reveals how they also knew everything and how they made the informant fall to their bait * later vjs kills the informant and know goes to anurag whearbouts and fights with him later after the fight and a little convo involving the dollar chain of which anurag made him realise that jothi was his daughter , he feels guilty and falls off the building to this own death SO GUYS THATS IT !! IT TOOK SO LONG FOR ME TO TYPE THIS HOPE ATLEAST ONE WILL READ THIS

Hidden details you might have missed. Correct me if I’m wrong. Must watch jaby and audience (1) Everytime before narrating the fake story, Maharaja drinks water just to control his real emotion and pain in check and take extra few second to narrate the story. (2) Brilliant Metaphor for Anurag Kashyap Character. Snakes can not recognize their babies and eat them, just as Anurag's character, And Vijay Sethupathi catches snake in the police station but does not kill it, and the same thing happens with Anurag in the climax. Also there is one more metaphor that can be applied here. Regarding the snake element, this is my understanding: In the scene, we see that a snake comes into his house, observes VJS and leaves while pushing a bottle and causing damage. My understanding here is that the snake is a metaphor for the Singam Puli character, who as per the story has been following and observing VJS character. Here it's conveyed that a snake(culprit) has come into the house and caused a damage before leaving. In the police station scene VJS character refuses to leave the station and breaks the loft revealing a hidden snake. He will come close to the door only after catching it. If we notice, in the intermission scene the second villain reveals that the man who Maharaja is searching for is in the police station. So here we can understand that VJS with his persistence ( shown by his strength ) is looking for the hidden snake(culprit) in the police station and will leave only after finding it. And lastly Singam Puli character has a mannerism that sounds like a snake's hiss. I might be wrong / over analysing a metaphor." (3) While maharaja buys the statue of mother and daughter we can see that after accident the statue breaks and only the part of baby of the statue remains intact foreshadowing that the mother is dead for Maharaja and Selvam case both. (4) I noticed another detail just now. The object that the snake pushes down to break looks like a candle and Maharaja's daughter is named Jyothi which means light. This is peak writing and visual storytelling. This is cinema. (5) While first time narrating the story in police station, Maharaja says that he opened the main gate then door and then turned on the light but in scene you can clearly see that when maharaja enters he directly enters the house as it was opened already plus the light was also on. (6) In narrating the story, Maharaja says that one guy had ears in his back. And there are many scenes where maharaja checks each and every person’s back like when he drops tea on back of the police officers and then cleans it using his hands over their backs (where jaby and many of us missed and laughed) and also while consolidating the guy who was searching for Dhana the first villain and come to police station to file missing complaint etc. (7) Many of us have one thing to ask is why he complained about missing dustbin. That’s where the genius of writing comes. He could have easily complained about missing jewellery or cash etc but that’s where actual investigation would have started and police would have found out that maharaja was lying but he chooses dustbin because even he knew that police will take time so maharaja was buying time and was doing his own personal investigation to find the second culprit. Snake is a metaphor. A snake swallows their own egg , they can identify their babys . Anurag’s character is also like that 💙 this is cinema 🔥

Ladies and gentlemen, here we have Mr Jaby Koay, who has experience of 1000s of movies, both Hollywood and Indian, and prides himself on having a great knowledge of film-making. Bro thinks that at this point, he won't have to move even a muscle to understand any Indian movie. Bro probably thinks he just has to stare at the screen, dumping his own views without devoting himself to the story being told. . Bro probably secretly thinks that he is BEYOND the movies he watches. Now when he is presented with an actual MASTERPIECE in screenwriting and storytelling, he is caught sleeping. He misses EVERY SINGLE clue even though the movie has ZERO loose ends!! He creates a MESS of the movie in his head which is so evident at each point of this reaction. And oh, somebody with such experience in movie watching wouldn't have MISINTERPRETED Anurag Kashyap's character presentation in the movie this badly, none of your analysis of his character really made any sense. You even poorly judged the POLICEMEN and heck, even the DAUGHTER in the movie. Funnily enough, the comedy in the film was able to wipe out the blankness surrounding your faces. And oh, Steph clearly doesn't have a stomach for dark thrillers

Fun fact It is Vijay Sethupathi 50 movie and before that some of his movies doesn't work on box office. But with this he made a strong comeback as a leading hero..😊😊

For me the best moment is the sudden shift of the police from the bad guy to a man with minimum morals

The Girl who gets Shoes from Daughter and the daughter of police are same And also they establish the Doctor as a Friend of Sethupathi in the Beginning and same Doctor treating Daughter in the End 😊

If anyone seen too much movies then you understand timeline because when i firstly saw this movie and anurag kashyap appears he was shown younger and i understand it was past timeline and the daughter refference i understand when sethupathi beaten all the goons but when he saw anurag his eyes played there a major roll and if you watched movie so much you can understand that things ❤❤

That dustbin was in Anurag's house 15 years before, and as he went to jail, his wife shifted somewhere else and took Dustbin with her. That's where Vijay's wife and daughter died and Anurag's daughter got saved by Dustbin. So, Dustbin is the representation of Ammu / Jyoti, as he found his daughter in it. So he lost his daughter after that incident. 😢

Rewatch it again please. You will understand much better and get a very clear idea of the whole timeline. I was wonderstruck when I watched it the second time.

The movie goes like... 1. Anuraag kashyap go for saloon And there he thinks VJS heard him talking 2. When VJS come to return the jewelry but at the same time police came arrested Anuraag Kashyap 3. 15years of jail and Anuraag kashyap wants to kill VJS but that day unfortunately his daughter arrives soon and unfortunate things happened 4. Present day VJS rewatching all her videos and crying at police station Finally he got his revenge ❤‍🩹

Idk if you read comments but the ending was the reason why they were showing the family story of the bad guy and showed that daughter of cop pulling up to give that character empathy for Vijay and i think a lot of things were interconnected

We should give them appluse for trying their best to understand. Subtitle and thriller can be hard. We should recommend older movies like nala damayanthi and panchathanthiram for jabs to wathc.

Achara is missed here for her brilliant reasoning and tears too ... She is a keen observer too .. Jaby should sit again with achara and go through movie again .. then he will catch all the incidence chronically and also get the reasons why minor detailings even of junior artists were deliberately shown in the film.

1:43 police here can find culprits easily here. Especially if there is death in the police force department or even families in the army ( the one they show family who Anurag kills with gas leak) they way they handle the case is very thorough and diligent. They use all available resources for this investigation to find culprits they use informers and others evidence to locate them.

Jaby this is a masterclass screenplay you need to pause every frame and understand it . Understanding this for you is difficult cause you are focussing on subtitle instead on screenplay ..thats where u got gabbed from screenplay

its only good for you because u didnt even get the nonlinear correctly, u missed so many clues, which makes the movie interesting especially in the second half , sometimes you need to understand the movie completely to say its one of the best.

Steph from a privileged western background doesn't understand how normal world works. This is real world and Rela world has real problems. Achara and andrew would have been better choice than jaby and steph for this movie

Another message is "Doing good, doesn't always reply good", like Vijay Sethupati tried to return Anurag Kashyup's gift but that led to his misunderstand and Anurag Kashyup original daughter who gave her shoes to her friend and asked Vijay Sethupati for new, made Vijay Sethupati stay for long in shop while her daughter was .....

A simple story with the magic of a genius screenplay..

Every single scene in this movie... Is of 'utmost importance' and all are interlinked... 💯 These guys should rewatch this movie again to conclude that...this movie is A MASTERPIECE😌

anurag acted very well....didnt expect him to be such a good actor. good director also.

The message is intense because this issue needs to be brought forward. This is not just the imagination of the scriptwriters but is also related to reality. And the ultimate message is that why can't one see the other as the same as his family part?

Just please get Achara and maybe Andrew to watch this movie. You guys, especially Steph, big nope. I get Steph's problem with the women being plot devices thing. But my main gripe is how these guys missed so many clues and nuances while trying to pin the movie into a particular genre or tonality. At least mid way, you should have caught it that there's a drastic shift in tone and the movie is very deliberate about it. As an experienced viewer you start asking questions. That's when this movie makes sense.

My gosh, you all didn't figure out while watching that when the man got arrested and the dustbin was at his home, Vijay looked younger. That was a past scene, you guys!

It was really really important they went there. I understand that women and their problems are utilised for moving plot or elevating scenes. But really really unfortunate thing is that in India these cases are really becoming a pandemic. And also there are so many scenarios where cases arent filed due to taboo and many other reasons..

Finally, they show the real red diamond in her footprint.

I think you missed the part when her daughter ask him to buy her new shoes today only when she will be coming back bcos she gave her old shoes to the girl who took them without her permission...thats why he came late to the house that day .

3:13 This detail was to show the inspector had a daughter and thats why he became emotional about the rape situation in later scene at 11:30

Yep, that's what I loved and surprised me in that scene. Though corrupt, the inspector and his cronies did their jobs and let Maharaja serve his own type of justice. In a way, the inspector's paternal instincts kicking in. "Sir, we gave him the machete. What if we land in trouble in the future?" "We'll handle it. Would we stay quiet if this happened to our daughter? Let him die."

I think you failed to understand the emotions of this film. You missed how beautifully it was screenplayed. You missed the detailing.

This movie should be taught in film making schools!! A masterpiece!!
