She was born in London and her education was like Victorian English Education so her English is good. And yes all these princely rulers never faught against the British rule. They used to get 4 lakhs per year from British Govt. as personal expenses for each member of royal family. At a time when common people of India suffered from hunger and poverty and the freedom fighters like Bhagat Singh, Rajguru, Khudiram Bose, Bagha Jatin gave up their life to fight against the British rule and thosands of Swadeshis were sent to Cellular Jail in world of extreme torture, at that point of time rulers of these princely states were leading a lavish lifestyle by getting shares of money looted by the Britishers from India.

That was the deal for British to conquer and rule india. Obviously royalty had to either bow to British or die fighting them. So choice was quite clear there. India was not a United Nation back then it was an amalgamation of regions and rajas and nawabs( due to Muslim conquer before the British). So about 1000 AD Muslim conquer had begun. Same strategy either fight them or support them. In nutshell most Indian rajas were essentially cowards or simply lacked modern ammunition and simply gave up. So Muslims largely conquered Indian regions (not all India though) there were rulers like Shivaji Maharaj and some Hindu Raja’s down south and north east who never gave up, but ultimately perished as British came along and conquered full India.

She always maintained till her interview on Rendezvous that the princely states were better. Perhaps it was because India is too corrupt to begin with let alone run a large country democratically. But Rajmata talks as if the princely states were a heaven for their citizens. Poverty and hardship has always been a part of Indian history for at least the past five centuries. And the excessive lives of royals can't be undermined either.

In fact, Aishwarya Rai, when compared to the Maharani’s youth pictures, quite resembles her. Not that, any of these celebrities could ever even think of matching up to the Rajmata’s ageless beauty! I’ve never seen such a beautiful woman before. Yet, so humble, she had no pride in being the world’s most beautiful woman of her time. She could’ve made an excellent leader, had the Congress not been all-encompassing back then.
