The Daily Star Editor Mahfuz Anam has admitted to his 'biggest mistake' in journalism, saying it was wrong of him to run corruption stories against Sheikh Hasina during the 2007-8 military-controlled caretaker regime. Video courtesy ATN
If he can run false news once in his newspaper he can do it more times, I thought DailyStar is neutral, but at times they fulfill unethical needs of different groups/parties
it was not false news, as you can see him saying that he got that information from DGFI...but now there is no proof of that information as BAL came in power in 2009. that's he regrets that he shouldn't had leaked that information without any proof.
There is a certain quarter in Bangladesh who tries to defend Mahfouz Anam by saying that at least he had the guts to confess his wrong doings. Well, I disagree with those people. Had Mahfouz Anam confessed before being cornered then I would certainly give him credits for his confession. Here he was caught totally off guarded and having found himself in public on the wrong side of the fence, he had no choice left other than to admit that he lied and played a role in bringing in military backed government into power. Well, on the other side, his defenders have every right to claim that Mahfouz Anam did a good thing back then as Tareq Zia and people in his inner circle were showing absolutely no respect to rule of law. There were number of top level opposition (Awami League) politicians killed at the hands of goons run by Hawa Bhaban.
