A thrilling summer adventure with Captain Roger J. Muller Jr., a distinguished seafarer hailing from the vibrant shores of Hoboken, NJ. Aboard his trusty Grady White vessel, Captain Muller, accompanied by the adventurous Randy Homer and the skilled Captain Ron Schmidt, sets the course for an epic Mahi/Tuna fishing expedition. Their journey takes them to the majestic Hudson Canyon, a hidden gem beneath the waves, where the sea unveils its bountiful treasures.
This voyage is not just a pursuit of the day's catch but a meaningful contribution to marine conservation, specifically aiding the Beyond Our Shores Dolphinfish Research Program. While the Atlantic generously offered up its tuna, our valiant crew's primary quest was to tag the elusive Mahi Mahi, a species as mysterious as it is magnificent.
Dolphinfish, or Mahi Mahi, are among the ocean's most fascinating inhabitants. Known for their striking iridescent hues-vibrant blues and greens that light up the water-they are not only a sight to behold but also a study in marine marvels. These fish are famed for their incredible growth rates, with individuals capable of reaching up to 20 pounds in just a year, showcasing the sheer power of nature's drive.
But why study dolphinfish, you might ask? The answers lie beneath the surface. These creatures embark on extensive migrations that puzzle and intrigue scientists. Tracking their movements and understanding their behaviors are crucial for unraveling the complexities of marine ecosystems and ensuring their sustainability. The data collected, especially from tagged individuals, sheds light on habitat preferences, spawning activities, and migration patterns, contributing to a broader understanding of the ocean's dynamics and how climate change and human activities might be influencing these ancient travelers.
Their presence in the northern waters, such as the Hudson Canyon, is a testament to the changing seas. Once considered tropical dwellers, these fish are now frequently encountered in temperate zones, challenging our perceptions and urging a deeper dive into the mysteries of oceanic shifts. This anomaly presents a unique opportunity for research and discovery, offering insights into the adaptability and resilience of marine species in the face of environmental shifts.
Captain Roger J. Muller Jr. stands at the helm of this noble endeavor, his passion for the sea and its inhabitants shining as brightly as the mahi mahi's scales. His leadership not only promises an exhilarating adventure but also underscores the critical importance of responsible fishing practices and the role they play in marine conservation. Under his guidance, every cast of the line is a step towards understanding, every catch a leap towards sustainability.
So, come aboard and join Captain Roger and his crew on this extraordinary journey. It's more than a fishing trip; it's a call to adventure, a pledge to conservation, and an intimate dance with the mysteries of the deep. Witness the thrill of the chase, the beauty of collaboration, and the joy of discovery, all woven into the tapestry of this remarkable expedition. Together, let's navigate the vast, blue unknown of the Hudson Canyon, where every wave tells a story, and every breeze whispers the secrets of the deep. Join us, as we cast our lines into the future, anchored in respect for the ocean and a commitment to preserving its wonders for generations to come.

He began to do that just three years later when he started Muller Insurance in 1906.

I am Roger J. Muller, Jr., from Hoboken, New Jersey, and although it doesn’t seem like the expected place for a Lionfish hunter to reside, it has been my home base throughout all my adventures. I am an experienced International Lionfish Hunter and professional scuba instructor with both the Professional Association of Diving Instructors (PADI) and the National Association of Underwater Instructors (NAUI) that has tracked and hunted the fish throughout North America, many times in partnership with local organizations. I kill Lionfish to restore the natural balance in these areas and prevent the marine animal from causing any more destruction to the coral reef ecosystems I have dove in for over 20 years.
