I am ac technician. Your thinking is correct. Due to condenser dust chock ac gas pressure will raise. So compressor getting over load. That's y clutch was slipped. Millage also reduce. So after cleaning condenser everything normal. That is the reason.
Thank you for confirming. The AC technicians at Company workshop and outside workshops just wanted to change the clutch and don't even think what I said can be a cause, they just wanted to change. After this cleaning in the video, vehicle is still running with no issues.
Are you sure there is sufficient refrigerant/gas? if it is low, the ac cuts off. Check your condenser also visually through grill. If it is blocked like mine, have the grill removed and get the condenser cleaned like I did in this video.
cycles on and off frequently? I think that happens when refrigerant is low/high and also when condenser is hot. Cleaning like me might solve if your issue is because of over heating of condenser. There is a cut off switch which turns off the ac if condenser is hot (Probably faulty in my car). If the ac works and cools normally in morning but cuts off frequently during noon, the reason may be condenser over heating. In this case ac works normally during highway rides because the air flow to the condenser is higher.
In that case it is mostly the condenser. Other thing I want to point is that Innova & Etios( I do not know about corolla/altis) come with a single fan(radiator fan). As the car gets older the radiator efficiency goes down and the single fan will not be enough even after condenser cleaning. So the neighbour hood ac technicians usually fit an extra fan in front of the condenser. This extra fan is connected to the ac circuit and it remains on as long as the ac is on. This additional fan aids in cooling and solves the problem. I've seen Innovas being fitted with this extra fan. One of my previous cars(zen diesel) also had single fan and faced the same issue as yours. I got the extra fan installed on it and solved(back then even authorized service centre guys themselves adviced me to go for this.)
