Introduction
Mahindra launched the Thar Roxx, a five-door version of the Thar, but with much more equipment including 4x4 and ADAS. The Roxx is based on a new M_Glyde platform, which is said to be 40kg lighter than its predecessor. Then, the body shell, including the metal hard top, is said to be constructed from high-strength steel. Here are more details of the technical specifications of the new off-roader on the block.
Proportions
Despite the huge size of the SUV, it has an approach angle of 41.7 degrees and a departure angle of 36.1 degrees. These will be beneficial off the road. Moreover, the ramp-over angle is 23.9 degrees and the SUV's water-wading depth is 650mm.
Suspension and dampers
Under the skin, the Thar Roxx rides on a Penta Link suspension. It features an independent front suspension with double wishbones and a Rigid Axle Coil Spring rear with Watts linkage. It also gets Frequency Dependent Damping (FDD) with a Hydraulic Rebound Stopper (HRS) and Multi tuning valve-Concentric land (MTV-CL) dampers. These are said to improve the overall ride quality of the SUV.
Powertrain options
As for its powertrain, the base variant of the Thar Roxx is available with a 2.0-litre mStallion turbo-petrol engine that makes 160bhp and 330Nm of torque. The RWD diesel is a 2.2-litre diesel mHawk engine that puts out 150bhp and 330Nm of torque. Both engines come mated to a six-speed manual gearbox. The top-spec and petrol AT variants get a more powerful 2.0-litre mill mated to a six-speed torque converter. But there's no option of 4x4 for the petrol versions. Meanwhile, the Thar Roxx diesel automatics are available in two states of tune. According to the brochure, it can be had in a 150bhp and 330Nm state of tune or the other powerful Scorpio-N matching 171bhp and 370Nm in top-spec models.
