To be a little of a devil’s advocate: at least this one seems to mostly be cosmetic only compared to most other gachas which lock power behind characters and weapons. Like at the end of the day this is still just mahjong, having an egirl avatar doesn’t make you any better at it (skill wise).

@@skarmius45 It still leaves a very bad taste in my mouth. They could sell those for fixed prices in a shop. Instead you have to pour in amounts that *would* cause outrage if you could see them all at once to MAYBE get what you were after (I think I saw someone mention upwards of $300 to guarantee getting a specific avatar). That's not even getting into exploiting addictive personality traits (or literal actual DSM-5 problem gambling disorder) for greed.

@@Quiltfish Alas, that’s basically the hellscape that is mobile gaming now. From predatory pricing, to foot in the door deals to get people to spend, it’s one big psychological trap room designed to get people to part with money. People are basically desensitised to these practices nowadays with the amount of them on the market. The system is designed to get around the hard gamble due to things like the pity system where if you pull enough you are guaranteed to claim something on the banner you spend on, not that it makes the practice any better. I mean the eternal question most people ask is “What seperates gachas from tcgs or ccgs like hearthstone, mtg arena or marvel snap?” Which honestly they’re closer in practice than most might think at first glance. Point is, these practices do suck, but alas they don’t seem to be going away anytime soon, so the best course of action is to be knowledgable about em, and be there to support those who are vulnerable to such things.
