Yeah because most don't have morals, they have subjective morals. Based on societal norms. If you watch the video again he after he accepted Islam (doesn't have to be Islam would have a similar effect with a true Christian as well) and stared reading, i.e now he has OBJECTIVE morality. That is the difference.

I was an intern with a NBA team when he was silently protesting. Extra security was called for the game and he was told to stay in the locker room until the anthem was over. He was booed and called all kinds of names. He was just calm and peaceful, and lit us up for 25 that night. I've had nothing but respect for him after seeing that first hand. Fast forward all these years later and not much has changed.

A lot of blacks and Hispanics are extremely hostile and bigoted towards others. People in glass houses shouldn't throw stones is my point. And it happens both ways nowadays with the supposed liberties, many of actors and athletes have lost everything because they expressed their freedoms or said a certain word or didn't side with the "in crowd" politically.

Grew up watching him play against my older brother. His mom (Ms. Jackie) and my mom used to wake us up talking loud and laughing on the phone on Saturday mornings. 😂 This man has been through it and is still always humble and positive. Legend.

He was my favorite player too. I didn't know about him until the 1994 Western conference playoffs. First round when they upset the sonics. I found out about his tourettes and how he played through it and how good of a shooter he was and became my favorite. I was hurt when he was traded to the kings then eventually out the NBA. I was in 10th grade when it happened. 😞

He was quick, great teamplayer, a top shooter for the time and with today's changes, teams barely defending, no hand checking, no bumping, PGs allowed to shoot high volume 3s, mind you he was on avg. about 90% from the FT line and about 35% from 3 (with only few attempts per game). He was 6'1 and could dunk, so he'd have no issue playing and defending against today's average PGs.

In my childhood I was looking up to him that a man with tourrette syndrome can play such a great basketball, i remember seeing the 3pt. Percentage and I was amazed. Man was an inspiration to me, he and George Carlin completely changed how I viewed America and its institutions. Prior I had been ignorant to so many double standards and injustices against minorities of any kind. He inspired me to inform myself and not to contribute to the problem, but instead use whatever position I could obtain to help those with fewer freedoms than myself. I don't agree with all his beliefs or opinions but I don't have to, to respect him as a person of conviction.

I am old enough to know certain wisdom and what a MAN would regret…and that empty gesture he made changed NOT ONE SINGLE THING but the trajectory of his FAMILY’s life. The NBA did not change the mandate for the anthem. America is STILL as racist as ever with the police and the like…and again, he changed NOTHING. That was 30 years ago..and we are still having the same issues as a country…so it was an empty gesture. He would MUCH rather have the 100 mill, not have had his home destroyed, his life threatened..but most importantly….if he is a real man true to what is the basis of a man’s existence…he would have never taken his family and children through such a terrible period….all…for…nothing…but….HIS….selfish…intention. Sometimes, you have to do what is best for OTHERS…not YOURSELF. Knowing the difference, is what a MAN is. He regrets it for SURE, because it turned out to be an empty gesture that changed nothing, in a POSITIVE way.

Been a fan since day one and when he was traded to Sacramento for me it was unbelievable, he deserves so much but instead had everything ripped away from him unjustly. It's amazing to see him now doing more interviews because despite the circumstances, he has a remarkable story. He wasn't loud, belligerent, obnoxious or spiteful...although people demised his existence for taking a stand, he always moved in grace. I commend him now for being more vocal, but we need to give him his flowers for being a true talent who blessed us by the basketball gods.

Remember watching NBA Action in the 90’s and Mahmoud was featuring in one of the segments and he talked about needing to hit ten clean swishes before he could move on to next spot or leave the gym. Was a proper sniper, loved watching him. Terrible what happened to him. Bless this man!

I remember him as a kid, but he disappeared. Past 4-5 years his name's been coming up more. Michael Jordan was so big, his story just kind of went away. I didn't realize he went through all of that.
