Is it just me or did you guys noticed the way Mai dressed in this scene compared to the other scenes? She noticed that Josee dressed more modest than her and I think she’s trying to show Tsuneo she can too.
She gives me ichigo vibes from darling in the franxx lol, when she approached to josee on her house, I was scared if she was gonna slap her or sum shit lmao
It’s sad to see her getting hated, she was there for him for longer I honestly cheered for her it saddens me seeing people hate her when she’s only doing what others would’ve done to the person they like
I think thats exactly the problem I have with this movie. Because i've watched a good sum of animes at this point, the characters, the plotlines, the direction, because its aimed at the non-anime viewer it can comfortably follow the typical character tropes and their target audience would be none the wiser.
I don't understand why people are saying Mai is best girl or better than Josee. Yea Josee ain't perfect either, but Mai is very controlling and has toxic jealousy
I honestly can’t even like her at all Mai is just egocentric at this point to push her feelings to Tsuneo when he’s in that state, she just couldn’t imagine how hard it was to go trough all of that from his perspective. Another thing is that she lacks empathy because there’s a time in the movie that she goes to Josee and just explodes, because of jealousy and anger, while Josee had just lost her grandma, and all she got at that moment was Tsuneo. Sorry for my English.
People say Mai is best girl because shes nice and caring, she was supportive of Tsuneo the entire movie, she asked Josee to support Tsuneo's descision and don't hold him back from his dream and Josee refused to agree THEN Mai said that about her, which is rude but don't forget how Josee treated Mai when they first met. She tried several times to talk to her and she ignored her and left because she was jealous. She got her grandma to fire Tsuneo when he did nothing but help her, which was incredibly selfish. Mai wasn't selfish or egocentric, she said rude things but her actions tell a different story. Even though she didn't wanna talk to Josee she went and got her from her own depressed state because she knew she was the only one who could've woke Tsuneo up. She kept quiet about her feelings so that Tsuneo could keep doing what he wanted, do you not get how big that is. She only told him AFTER he gave up on going. It would've been real easy to stay put and keep helping him and he would've stayed with her but no she went and got Josee because she knew it would help Tsuneo get back to his dream. Shes the exact opposite of a selfish character and I don't know how people can't see that. Even though she SAID selfish things she did it so Josee would help Tsuneo, c'mon guys can't yall read between the lines. I don't dislike Josee but shes much more selfish than Mai who did a lot for Tsuneo and really ended up sacrificing her own possible (and likely) future with him so that he could do what he wanted.
The dub of this scene made her more likable. It had Mai acknowledge that she’s been acting immature here AND that she’ll get over her feelings for Tsumeiyo. She can be toxic but it’s at a small, insignificant level, especially compared other female characters in romance anime. Mai is flawed, but it’s what makes her character easier to connect with as a human

she was selfish. she wanted him to stay disabled so he'd stay stuck with her. even if she still went to josee in the end to convince her, that's such a scary thought to harbor towards the one you "love". i can't even imagine feeling that way towards my boyfriend.
