We are Ben and MP!
Recently we decided to purchase a two-masted wooden schooner in Brazil. The fun detail about our story is that the boat we bought was sinking and relying on many bilge pumps to survive so we had to lift it onto the dry to start a full refit. Once the boat was lifted (for the first time in her life) we realized that the work needed was much more than expected. Between bailing or accepting the challenge, we decided to go for the second option. Watch us as we bring Yabá back to life with the help of an amazing team of traditional shipwrights, sharing every phase of the process, overcoming the highs and lows and having fun along the way.

I have to admit....I was one of the folks way back at the beginning that thought you should abandon the refurbishment of Yaba, and instead just put the money into a newer boat that required less work. But I was definitely wrong! I've followed you from day 1, and have enjoyed every minute of your journey thus far. I'm sure the feeling of satisfaction you get from sailing a boat that you built yourselves is much greater than buying another of the production fiberglass boats we see on other sailing channels. As others have stated, it's hard to believe it's been 3.5 years since you were introduced by Duka and Roberta. I've followed you since then and will freely admit I was skeptical at the amount of damage that was revealed during the initial tear down. It's really wonderful to see the restoration and Yabá is a beautiful boat. She'll be even more beautiful once she has wings to spread. As an aside, MP you have really lovely handwriting! Cuando los ví por primera vez en el canal de Duca y Roberta, me dije: éstos chicos tienen un problema ENORMEEEEEE ¿cómo es posible que hayan comprado esa madera podrida? A partir de ahí estuve cada día esperando a que publicaran su primer capítulo....y cuando lo hicieron, simplemente, la angustia que me hicieron sentir no debió de ser nada comparada con la que ustedes debieron de haber vivido, sobre todo cuando sacaron ese bote del agua y darse cuenta de que al ir quitando tabla por tabla, todo estaba podrido..... Mi admiración hacia ustedes por focalizar su proyecto y haber seguido día con día ese camino emprendido sabiendo que sería muy duro perro sin perder la convicción de que llegarían al objetivo trabajando juntos, apoyándose como pareja en los momentos difíciles y celebrando cada uno de los logros. Reconocimiento muy especial al mayor de los carpinteros, hombre maduro, seguro y con muchas ganas de enseñar su oficio a las futuras generaciones para que ese arte no se pierda; no recuerdo el nombre de ese señor pero cuando lo vi trabajando, en ese momento me dieron ganas de estar ahí, trabajando y aprendiendo de el. Mucho éxito en ésta nueva etapa y muchas felicidades a ambos y al equipo de carpinteros por tan gran logro.

Just a tip for you guys , When stocking your boat with supplies, After cleaning the bought supplies at the dock put everything in large heavy duty garbage bags and seal them . Espeacially boxes of beer, because they carry spiders ,scorpions, bugs mice, If bagged and sealed bugs will die. This keeps infestation from your home on the water. Super yachters do this.
