The plug that didn't know what it was for, connects the trucks to the body with a friction fit. It is best replaced by a self-tapping 2-56 metal screw. Use plastic solvent for glue.
Accurail has some great kits. They do custom runs of stuff also with a minimum order. Three notch rails on fb is doing a ton of freelance custom cars. His designs are top notch.
Accurail kits are great value and offer a nice balance regarding cost and good looks. The couplings definitely need replacing by Kadees, but are simple and easy to assemble. The people running it are both helpful and kind when you contact them with queries.
Midland is also a Irving based trucking company in New Brunswick. Irving also runs two short lines, NB Southern Railroad and the Eastern Maine Railroad.
Accurail makes a nice kit and looking at these, they are definitely a custom run made for the Midland Railroad. Since he said it's a tourist line, I would say if you visited the Midland Railroad you could buy one of these cars in their gift shop. I've seen Accurail do custom runs like this for other tourist railroads.
I took the name from the tourist railroad which began operations in 1987 - due to Covid & some misguided/questionable business decisions, the RR, unfortunately, went kaput in 2019.
Nice cars. I would put Kadees on the car, instead of the Accurail couplers. I would also check out the wheels and axles very carefully. I find the quilty to be lacking.
Agreed, Kadee couplers and Intermountain wheels would make these cars perfect! I'm kind of unusual, I like to "get my money's worth" out of the stock parts (except on the hopper, which should have 36" wheels), but they still end up getting replaced relatively soon.
Great cars! These assemble rather neatly with most any plastic cement, my current cement is Tamiya, but I've also used Testors and Tenax, among others.
