I have heard about this film every since I was a little boy but had never seen it before until now. It was filmed by my great-grandfather Charles H. Osgood, Photographer, of Galesburg. Thank you for posting it.

My hometown… It’s so sad to see how much Galesburg has deteriorated, but I love watching videos that capture its history.

This is one of the most incredible images I've ever seen of our hometown and I feel honored to view it here. I showed this to my Mom and Dad and we were amazed at how many people were milling about Main Street and were so well-dressed. Obviously a time of great prosperity. This why I'm so proud of Galesburg. Historical, rustic, indestructible and all-American. I'm optimistic that one day we'll witness the rejuvenation of downtown due to a better economy. The city that continues to inspire. It encourages me to dream big every day.

Amazing video! Appears to start around Main and Chambers and moves west focusing primarily on the north side on Main St. O.T. Johnson's building is plain as day!

Galesburg, Illinois was a tranquil place. My grandfather grew up there with a passion of collecting stamps. Say, have you ever visited the beautiful town of pre-war Galesburg? Bustling in its glory, the town had majestic overhead archways along the streets, a pattern created by the trees on the roadside. I spent my childhood with my grandpa, inheriting the custom of stamp collection there. With The Great War, still dormant for 3 years, and World War 2 still not starting for about 3 decades, what an amazing town it would have been. When the evenings are longer, and there is no insecurities. The men talked about their lives while smoking a cigar. Meanwhile, women chatted about their own lives, while fanning themselves to beat the heat. What a wonderful experience. The spring would then bring about a garden bigger than most mansions nowadays. Doesn’t it seem amazing?

My husband and I just visited Galesburg on a train trip from Reno. We enjoyed having a Coney Island dog, JT's popcorn and the food at Jalisco Mexican Restaurant. The people at the train museum were absolutely the best. Galesburg is a great place!

I loved spending half of my childhood in G-burg. It really gave me a sense of history and belonging to a community. I will always treasure the time I lived there.

However, two things we shall always have, my fellow burghers: death and taxes. We eat shit and sooner or later, we die.

I live in Galesburg, and I think it's a great town! We have the beautiful new library, gorgeous architecture, Railroad Days, the Knox County Scenic Drive...still a lot of good if you look for it.

@@joanholliday403 So...we are just not going to talk about the violent crimes, the lack of meaningful jobs, ridiculously corrupt laws, or how many of the houses in the area look straight up abandoned?
