A demonstration and tutorial of a full cat grooming of a Maine Coon cat. Tips and techniques to cat grooming; including cat bathing, cat blow-drying, cat brushing, cat combing, cat haircut and hair styling.
He is an absolute sweetheart and wonderful to groom. I wish all the cats I groomed were as compliant and agreeable as Biggie is. Most cats want to eat after they have been groomed. So, they either get a really nice treat or two or they get a regular meal. It was time for dinner when Biggie finished his groom so he had a big bowl of food and was quite content after. Thank you!
I've wanted a Maine Coon Cat for the longest time. They can fetch a fairly hefty price but they are wonderful companions and aren't really as high maintenance as a lot of people think. They always seem to have such nice personalities and are very intelligent. Someday I'll find the right one I'm sure.
Biggie needed to be groomed as he does about every 3 months since he was getting dirty, oily and had a lot of undercoat. He was also shedding a lot. All of these elements will create knots and matting over time so that is why he is groomed. on a regular basis.
I'm quite surprised at how well behaved this cat was. Even during the bath, all he did was give a few meows of protest. Complete opposite of my cat. where if you even try to approach her with a comb you end looking like a human scratching-post.
Often clients are not interested in keeping their cats or dogs based on breed standard, but based on what they think is easier for them or the cat given their living circumstances. So, I often get requests to do haircuts on their long haired breeds since the cats get matted up or they shed too much etc...While I agree with you in theory, these are not show cats and if it keeps the cats from getting matted, tangled and comfortable then I will do a haircut. Haircuts are owner requested.
Cat totally unimpressed like "okay go ahead and surprise me with another stupid idea of yours today". ...and then the before VS later moment. Cat all like "okay nice to see you happy now it would be nice to see me happy - got some food?"
I just love how majestic looking he still is even after his grooming ! I am going to school next year for pet grooming and we will also be grooming cats! Your video has made me a little bit more confident in the cat realm . Thanks for sharing your process!
So cool to see how you handle these felines. The way you explain exactly what you are doing to improve the lives of these cats is top notch. Mega praise to your procedures!!!
In my experience with cats, if you start bathing them when they are just kittens they become accustom to it. I have a solid white long hair and have to bathe him at least once a month.
I wouldn't shave my Maine Coon boy Murphy. I love his shaggy long fur. And he isn't oily and rarely needs bathing. His bum is never poopy either. I've tried several brushes but his favorite is my mini travel paddle brush. He jumps on the bathroom sink to drink from the faucet but also jumps up to be brushed. He is so smart and cute! My domestic short hair boy is sweet but Maine Coons have a better personality in so many ways.
Biggie is groomed about every 3 mos. It really depends on the cat, the cat's coat and how much the client is willing to do between grooms. I have clients with Persian cats that are groomed every 4-5 week and have other clients who do quarterly grooms. It also depends if you want to keep your cat in full coat, do a haircut or a lion cut. If your cat is in relatively good condition and you are able to brush and comb then a couple of times a year should be fine; a quarterly schedule would be fine.
EXTREMELY DOCILE CAT. My cat wouldn't let me do any of this grooming work. He is very intelligent, very beautiful and shows a lot of affection for his master (myself). I treat him really well. I pet him and brush him, and very carefully pet him otherwise he could scratch or bite me.
Such a nice work done. This breed is so gorgeous... Just looking at Biggie.. ... it looks like majestic. GORGEOUS! Big difference from the before and after.
He's so well behaved! I'm impressed. :) Lol. My cat is well behaved, but she likes to play and she's very energetic, so when you reached for the combs she would have been all up in your face trying to play.
+Tariq Mulla if my cat hears the noise of the razer hes running... He likes the bath.. But not the blow dryer and combing....... I need her to groom my cat.
I have to take my Main to the vet to be groomed. They sedate him and shave from neck to tail. My boy will only let me pet his face and head. They say he's hyper sensitive to touch. He doesn't groom himself like my calico did. Not a normal cat in anyway, never meows and is scared of EVERYTHING! But I sure do love my boy!
I'm amazed at how calm he is! My cat looks just like him but is half the size and at least ten times as vicious if I try even just clipping his nails let alone a bath and a trim lol
+Kane Carter Yea, but I also do not have an outer coat and an undercoat. Also, my hair will continue to grow and grow if I never cut it, where most animals fur grows to its intended length and stops growing. Many animals, especially those with an outer coat and under coat, their fur is how they regulate their body temperature. Like how we sweat to keep cool, their coat will do different things depending on temperature. If you cut it off you are messing with that system. By cutting off some animals fur you can make them hotter than if you left it long.
+4theloveofDub Not the case for a Maine Coon cat. Their fur grows more rapidly than a typical house cat. They are very high risk at digestive problems due to excessive hair balls if you don't groom them and remove some hair
Truly a beautiful Cat!! You seem to do a great job with the grooming. My cat is indoor as well and I completely agree with you on the claw trimming. Sometimes the sharp claws can get caught in fabric and can hurt them. Good job!!
You are so blessed to have a cat that will sit so nicely for all the grooming, especially the bath. Mine, well to put it calmly ... I need bandages when they're done :)
Aww...Im loving Biggie.. 😊❤ Good job Pet Maven. My cat's no Maine Coon, but her attitude doubles her size at times...lol.. To bathe her I put on a long sleeved sweater because she climbs all over me (cats and water, even warm water) and those claws... but she generally tucks her tail in for most of her bath and endures to to the end. Dry off time is tricky, No blow drier I burrito her and cover her face lightly to calm her down and towel roll the majority of the water off of her, then in moments (when I can get close enough... cuz were not friends for a while after that bath...lol) I sneak brush her coat which is thin enough to air dry, she also grooms herself naturally once she escapes the bath towel... that's my kitty! 😊
this is exactly what I've been looking for . I have a main coone and I didn't want him shaved cause he has such beautiful hair but he's getting really long hair in the winter . he's in indoor so it's not an issue .. this is whst I'm getting him . thank you
Thank you for this we just had an abandoned Maine Coon show up on our back porch with no microchip and no owners coming forward to take him home. He was matted and filthy. I just got him his first bath and took a long time slowly taking out mats. He actually purred and kneaded me the whole time I was brushing him. It is going to take a lot more work but at least I got all of the pine needles and debris out of his coat.
You get much nice and smoother haircut when the cat is squeaky clean and doesn't have dander, excess undercoat and grease in it's coat. It also gunks up the equipment.
SR9971 I work with an assistant and I can assure you many cats are difficult to groom. Sometimes we need to put an e-collar on the cat to prevent it from biting. Some cats can only be sponge bathed; they are intolerant of the bath. We are very patient and most cats we are able to groom, but some aspects of the grooming we just abbreviate.
I am in a client servicing business and that is what the owner requested you "their" cat. Another owner may keep their cat in full coat. A lot of owners want lion cuts on Persians.. There are an endless number of grooming requests an owner can make, similar to when humans go to the hair dresser.
