Maine Coon Molly Gets a Bath | How We Bathe Our Cats 

I had a 20 year old Maine Coon that passed away 3 years ago. Boris, my buddy adopted me when he was two. I used to bathe him about every 3 months, in the end at least once a month cause he was ill and had no control of his bowels. Boris at first did not like the sound of water, so I would prepare bath water before hand. In the end, he loved his baths. Probably a little of dementia set in too, he was so laid back. I miss my buddy, we spent 18 great years together! My husband calls him one in a million awesome cat! Thanks for sharing your videos, they bring back happy memories of my buddy.😅

I have always bathed my cats. It gives me a chance to see their skin, beneath all of the fluff, it helps with the extra loose hair, it’s a chance to look for parasites. It gets them use to being handled, cared for and cleaned and any necessary treatment.

My cat loves his bath. He wants it. He is really happy after. He loves the warm blowdryer.. all of it.Spa time to him.

My cat (RIP Smiley), had no problem with baths, showers. He was so mellow. As long as there was one point of contact between me and him, he had no fear of water, fire (backyard fire pit). He liked warm water, and he really loved warm-hot air from hair dryer. I always had my hand on him, when blow drying, so I knew what temperature air hitting him was. P.S. You know you have been conquered by your cat, when you fall asleep, and wake up to find your cat hugging your hand. Something about paw across hand, marks the point in time , when cat has accepted you as his or her human. This occurred on third day after adoption. I only had few times, when I had to enforce some discipline. He had matting issues on hind quarters. So brushing the area or cutting off matted fur, sometimes drew a hiss and rumble. When that happened, a gentle but firm grip on scruff, followed by 10 second starring contest, told him not to complain. He had his claws ( I am against de-clawing), and he never, ever, bared them against me. No matter how hard I had to brush his coat. Hiss was the worst I ever got from the little guy.

Molly is such a beautiful girl. When wet she seems to be a very small cat. She's very patient and seems to enjoy the bath. Regardless of how well you dry her she has to make sure she's dry to her liking.

I haven't seen this one lol, her eyes while she's in there. Totally priceless and she was such a good girl...

My Siamese cats were abjectly petrified of water and giving them an occasional bath was a titanic exercise in patience. I agree with just about everything you said in this video.

Mine would rip my face off if I even attempted a bath. I’m not brave enough to “encourage” a hissing, spitting, furious feline-as much as I love mine. She gets brushed daily with a professional grooming brush which ensures her dingle berries are brushed out. More power to you!

Years ago, we inherited a whit cat from my sister. Mei-Mei (Chinese, little sister) got into a flea area so we had to give her a bath; like most cats, she hated baths. We wrapped her in a bath towel, we both, on our knees, held her in the tub, slowly exposing parts of her so we can use on hand to apply the flea shampoo. She wouldn't talk to us for a day, then she wanted wet food.

You are very responsible about bathing the babies, and they are used to it. It is these people who don't know what there doing that give bathing a cat a bad name. Your babies are very well taken care of.

Had our maine coon for nearly 2 months now and building up mentally to giving him a bath soon. He loves the sound of water and is so chilled, so hopefully will be fine.

We do a variation. We have a Golden eyed Black Maine Coon boy ( half-brother to a Siamese girl mix ). He gets knots, the dingleberries, greasy fur from eating and the litter smell. Most cats give up the groom in their older years. We tried Bathing her too and I still have the scars. It looked like a crime scene at our house she bit us so fiercely. She gets the warm wash-cloth wipe down only. Her fur is very short and she self-grooms way more than he does. But since he's not full bred Maine coon he does not like the water as much as a full breed might. So I get tall cups of just right warm water standing by the sink ( we are old and bent ). I hoist him, wet him quietly with a water only one. One of the cups is soapy so I suds him then rinse as many x's before he starts to wiggle. I can hold him by myself even though he's the size of a small Lynx and as strong as a Buick skylark. We do it smoothly, and quick and quietly. Here's the real key. I get warm towels brought to me from the dryer and he loves those so much that he's nearly dry by the fourth one. It's low noise, low stress and he has never bitten us. Not recommended for Siamese or other sassy bitey breeds. She hears the sink and she still glares at us recalling the carnage bath day. She gets a push up meat treat same as him for yowling for him the whole time! It's works quite well! NOT ON HER THO.

The first time I washed my Maine Coon (I do it in the enclosed shower and not a bathtub), I did him before my Russian Blue older cat who is always super dramatic about it just so that he'd have a chance to not act traumatized bc he figured he was supposed to. He was unsure at first and then realized it was just like petting, so he didn't mind it a bit.

I'm really impressed that your Molly enjoys the water! Personally, I'm sorry to say that my late Maine Coon Hey never liked taking a bath, or even liked water being on him at all for that matter. My family's Siamese cat Cleopatra never liked taking baths either, and she still despises water on her to this day. When Cleo was a kitten, she became a walking flea hotel, hence the nickname "Fleabag" given to her by my Dad, who also sometimes called her "Fleo". Because of the heavy quantity of fleas that kept manifesting in Cleo's fur, my Mom had to give her a bath (against Cleo's will) and use a comb to rake the fleas out of her fur. However, as a side effect of the bath, Cleo was left with dryer skin underneath her fur because the process of removing the fleas from Cleo's fur also removed the oily substance from her skin along with the fleas. Because of this, Cleo's skin got so itchy and dry that Cleo scratched at the itchy area, causing some severe pain to herself in the process. This was observed from her yelping in pain while she was scratching. Luckily, Mom was able to restore the oil on Cleo to solve this issue.

I bathe my Bella every three months as well. I have since I got her. I do use a cup and the hand held shower and she lets me do it.

Nearly everyone gives there cat at least one wash a year I don't know anyone who doesn't so I think you won't get any bad mail...

I have given my family cat a bath since 8 weeks and now I recently got a kitten and have been bathing her every 2 weeks and she is slowly getting use to it too. Even though people tell me they don't need baths but I want them to get use to it incase they one day get really dirty and its true they go into their litter etc so they do need help cleaning
