8 months of trail camera footage, set overlooking a natural black bear marking area that includes 2 marking trees and one post. I've had a trail camera in this location for 3 years. I'm amazed at the different species that are attracted to this location. Enjoy, the bears, deer, moose, fisher, bobcat, coyote, hawk, and a great horned owl! I'll be placing another trail cam at this location once again in late winter 2023. As always thanks for watching!

Why are all the wildlife so attracted to that particular stick stuck in the ground? Fantastic capture with the hawk and the great horned owl.
@MaineWoodsbooger
@MaineWoodsbooger Год назад
It was a dead tree that the bears rubbed against 4 years ago, and I think the scent they leave attracts other animals as well. It gets smaller every year. I was so excited to see the hawk and owl! Thanks!

I'd definitely be carrying if I decided to take a hike in those woods. Bear spray first and/or warning shot. Same with the moose. Out west in Idaho, etc. I'd be worried about mountain lions and wolves too. I watch those videos of unarmed hikers/bicyclists scared for their lives. I wouldn't take that risk even though it's relatively rare to encounter a predator, but it definitely happens at least every week in America somewhere I'm sure.
@MaineWoodsbooger
@MaineWoodsbooger Год назад
100% Agreed James. You may be able to see my sidearm in one of these clips. I would hate to use it, but it's there if needed. Bears in Maine almost always run away, but you never know. It's moose I worry about more. Thanks for watching!

@@MaineWoodsbooger Yeah I figured you had some protection and yes moose definitely seem more aggressive. They're massive beast.

Awesome video! Love the Great Horned Owl flying in and then in slow mo towards the camera. Can I ask what Browning camera you are using? I imagine you must be using a 512 gb card and solar panel to be able to run it for months without coming to check it? That seems to be one of the keys to getting lots of captures... along with locating a scent marking post like the one you found. All goals of mine. It would be great to see a video about your setups. I might do the same, but I only began using a solar panel this fall and see the incredible benefits. I have not had to do anything with that one camera since the beginning of October.

Thanks Jesse, and I sub'd to your channel, looking forward to see what you get on that cam. Great questions! I'm using the Browning Recon Force series cameras. Mainly, the Advantage and the new Elite HP5's, they are great on battery life and solid units. I use lithium batteries, and sometime get over a year out of them depending on the amount of videos, and length. I also use 128gb cards, and they are big enough, so far. I try and not check my cams to often, and I do believe it helps. I have thought about doing a set up video, and I think I will be doing one this year, probably sooner than later.
@Geckocan
@Geckocan Год назад
@@MaineWoodsbooger Awesome! Thanks so much for the sub and also for sharing your gear info. I am astounded that your cameras are lasting that long on lithiums. You must also have mastered reducing the amount of false triggers. I did recently get one cheaper camera. The Campark TC06 which can take up to a 128 gb card... I am curious to see how long I can get it to last out there. I checked my cameras over the holidays far too much and the wildlife activity dwindled down to not much at all. I figured it is time to just leave them alone. I do need to do more scouting to find scent marking posts. I know I have cats around, but they go nowhere near my cameras. I am trying lures, but this only seems to bring in fox and fisher... I would of course rather record natural behavior. Thanks again!
@MaineWoodsbooger
@MaineWoodsbooger Год назад
@@Geckocan Scent is good to use when needed for sure. I seem to get most of my false triggers in the early spring before green up. The combination of the sun angle, and wind really eats up the batteries that time of year.

Curious of what you scented that stick with?
@MaineWoodsbooger
@MaineWoodsbooger Год назад
Have you followed all of my videos over the past 3 years with this natural "stick"? It's actually a small spruce that got bent by snow and broke. It was then used as a rubbing stump, not a "stick" as it is rooted in the ground. I have added skunk essence twice to see what would change, and it didn't make a difference. Thanks for watching!

Wondering if you use a solar panel for your browning if so is there one you like more than otgers
@MaineWoodsbooger
@MaineWoodsbooger Год назад
I haven't used a solar panel with any of my Brownings. Lithiums seem to do real well, so I haven't had the need as of yet. My favorite model is the Browning Recon Force Advantage, and unfortunately they are discontinued now. I've been trying out two of the new Recon Force Elite HP 5 cams, and so far I like them.
