A lot of industries and professions don't require specific education, just higher education in general. I majored in finance and I only occasionally apply my education in finance to my job. Many of my colleagues majored in history for example and one even majored in film. If you are decent with Excel, you can qualify for a lot of pretty good jobs.
I didn't leave Maine, but have spent a long time trying to move to Maine from another New England state. The reason I hadn't been able to until recently is that I couldn't find a suitable job. COVID and remote work have allowed me to move to Maine and I will do everything I can to remain here. I am optimistic about the economic future of Maine, especially Portland.
