I really think SideFX should hire you fulltime, everything is so clear and concise. You really have a great grasp and how to explain to someone like me who is really just starting off. Thank you so much!!
I find shading the HeightFields with mantra or redshift is quite hard to get good results. The technical process isn't hard, but getting good recents requires a bit more work. Instead I use Substance Painter and Substance Designer. You can check out a blog post I posted on this: bubblepins.com/alien-plateau-breakdown Hope that helps!
Hi ! Love your content, I just saw a talk about environment art in houdini and the artist uses attribute vops after the convert hf is there a reason he wouldnt use the volume one ?
After you convert the heightfield, it gets converted into a geometry with polygons, then the volumevop won't be useful. You'll need an attributevop or point vop to manipulate it. It's just the type changes after you convert it. Hope that helps!
That is a really good question! I don't think there's an easy way to mask it other than zero-ing out the effect within the VOP setup itself. Like if u add noise to volume using VOP, and there's a section u dont' want noise, I think u can add zero noise for that selective section. But it would b more complex involving calculations and how do I figure out when that section comes up in the vop to isolate. Yeah I don't know of any easy way to do it. Hope that helps!
