A wave of cuts to services and a 10% rise in council tax in Birmingham has been voted on by councillors on Tuesday..
Ministers gave Birmingham City Council permission for the 10% rise in each of the next two years - a total increase of 21% in a move that usually requires a referendum.
Europe's largest local authority has declared itself effectively bankrupt and is trying to make £300m of cuts, with members of the council describing d the situation as "devastating".
Up to 600 council jobs could also be cut, with the likes of libraries, parks and cultural projects all due to be affected.
The Talk panel discuss whether what happened to Birmingham City Council was the fault of the Government or those running the organisation themselves.

Birmingham to most English people is an Asian and African colonised city they prefer avoiding.

Some local authorities also got involved in property speculation -- see Croydon -- and poorly managed property development.

This is Labour Party's fault, for Starmer is to blame For the residents in Birmingham, the future of the city looks uncertain and on the high street, there’s anger at the rise in council tax and budget plans. One resident told GB News: “I just do not see why the existing council taxpayers should be asked to pay to pick up the tab for something that is not their fault. Another said: “Disgraceful, really, isn't it If you listen to it? All the work they've done on Birmingham, and they still haven't finished off half the projects.” One lady said: “I'd certainly be worried about raising council tax. I'd be less worried if I could see a proper plan of how it's going to be spent, and what we're going to get as a benefit from that, rather than it just bailing out the council.” The local authority’s financial trouble is mainly due to equal pay liability claims which are now reported to have reached £867million. Elsewhere, the council has gone more than £100million over budget on the implementation of a new IT system. Cllr Robert Alden (Conservative), Leader of the Opposition, said: "This is an important budget, it's a budget that shows just how badly Birmingham Labour have made a mess of the Council's finances and how they haven't got a real plan to fix their mess." "Instead all Birmingham Labour have to offer is a double whammy of higher taxes and fewer services. "Perhaps residents watching this budget debate for the last 20 minutes will have concluded that the Leader and his cabinet live in a fantasy land. "A golden decade promised by Labour, destroyed by a decade of Birmingham Labour rule. "Warning after warning, year after year. Every year since 2017 there have been warnings that the council had to resolve equal pay issues. Every year since 2017 Birmingham Labour have ignored those warnings. "They are not being honest with Brummies, not honest about the causes of their financial crisis nor about their lack of plan to fix it." Speaking after the announcement of the budget, Leader of Birmingham City Council, John Cotton, said: “I want to apologise unreservedly for both the significant spending restrictions and this year's substantial council tax increase. “We have no alternative than to face these challenges head on, and we will do whatever is necessary to put the council back on a sound financial footing.”

Actually thousands of female employees lodged backdated 'equal wages' claims to that council, it costed them £millions and that's what bankrupted it.

It’s not just Birmingham. It’s the majority of councils. I know our council isn’t earning 600,000 a year. There have been cuts to social care and children’s services. Children can’t afford to go to school as transport has been cut. Elderly going without care and suffering being left in their own c**p. Roads failing. Libraries non existent. Council tax risen by 5% and we have the highest council tax being 315 out of 350 yet Westminster is the lowest possible council tax!!! So explain that!!!

I worked in Westminster. Poor people can't afford to live there, so the Council has relatively few people needing public services. The Council Tax looks low by comparison, but Westminster has lots of high-banded property.

This is 100% the councils fault and the people it put in the positions to manage this. If you sit there and blame the government without adapting or addressing the funding issue then that's on them, losing out on a massive payout also councils fault for allowing it to happen in the first place. Tax Payers should not be paying for this, it should be all those employed in the council positions they should have to take pay cuts to cover the basic costs, that's how you hold them accountable and how you stop it happening again. As always when the taxpayer is bailing these people out where is the punishments for a bad job? All those in the top positions will be sacked with a severance pay. Or as I like to call it a Losers Bonus. The government shouldn't allow a council to go bankrupt they should have stepped in sooner and sacked all those in these positions and ran it themselves on a basic skeleton crew. I'd love to see where all this money went also, cos I'll bet you all those cushy council events weren't cancelled. Its an utter disgrace.

The lady in the yellow shirt got her facts wrong, the Rich areas aren't as densely populated even though they pay more council tax per head the shear population in Birmingham even though it has More unemployment the mass of people still beats the rich areas in terms of income generated but the area's are the worst kept ?
