Theruwansaranai Bhante! What would you say about exercise for monastics? Aside from sakman, since not all monasteries have enough space for one to go on walks that would actually make a significant difference in ones health. And would you have any tips for preventing gastritis - most especially with the lack of evening meals?

A good question @sahassaransi. Exercise can be important. I've found yoga and physiotherapy to be quite helpful with an ankle injury. It's important to keep in mind the Buddha's reflections on food. It's only for the maintenance of the body. A similar attitude to exercise can be helpful. Re: gastritis, it's a good question. Have been thinking to do a post on stomach remedies. Have found green tea, brown coconut oil, baking soda, etc. and different exercises helpful. Will hope to do a post about it at some point.

See MN 119: Kayagatasati Sutta. The Body is one of the four Satipatthanas. Every monk is given five body parts as their meditation object when they ordain in the Theravada tradition.
