Hey Sebastian!! Thanks for your recent video on Lilac Love. I was able to snag a bottle of the old formulation after seeing that video. I knew a spot that had one more bottle of the old formulation in stock. You mentioned in one of your last videos that you are always open to ideas for videos. Maybe you could start posting videos about fragrances that will soon be discontinued or reformulated, or have recently been discontinued or reformulated that are worth finding the original.

Harrods sent me a free sample of this, which was a nice surprise. I've just gone to get it to sniff it again & I've the same impression. Although it's a fairly pleasant amber scent, I find it to be a bit bland & it's a very soft skin scent, but my main issue with it is that it smells a lot like the fly spray I use .The fly spray smell is only in the opening though, lasting around 30 minutes. Then you get a nice amber & vanilla with hints of pepper & white florals. It's nice but I wouldn't recommend it.

Sad, I was hoping that it would be a direct remake or at least that it has more character, I read in fragrantica that it was similar but watered down, now it's confirmed, what can I say, I still will be searching for a Ciel the Gum bottle at a reasonable price. Thanks for the review Sebastian!!!

Im really enjoying this one. But I do miss the days of heavier MFK scents - thinking Oud Velvet Mood and Cashmere Mood as well.

I've been eager to hear your thoughts on this. As soon as it came out I started hearing about it being a new version of Ciel de Gum. I got excited because I never got to try the original. I almost blind bought the new one, but wanted to wait and see what you thought of it first. Hmmm, now I'm torn. I'm glad to hear that it's still good, but I don't want to settle for good when the other is great if that makes sense. Maybe I'll just keep my eye out in the fragrance groups because every now and then a bottle of the original pops up.

All of my Dior Prive fragrances, such as Bois d'Argent or Cuir Cannage, maturated over years and now they last more than 1 day and project quite good.

Harrod’s has a lot of “exclusive” niche fragrances from Diptyque, Maison Crivelli, etc. It’s a tactic to get people shopping in store again since that’s dying out in favor of discount sites today. So sadly you can only order it straight from Harrod’s.

Apparently this will only be around for 1 year (the anniversary year for Harrods). I wonder if it will only be at Harrods the whole year and/or if it will go global after the year or disappear completely. At the MFK boutique in Paris they didn't know much about it.

I may be off topic, but I don't understand why perfumes are sometimes reformulated (mostly for the worse) when people are happy with how the originals are.They are already weaker and have worse longevity. But luckily not all of them. There are many quality perfumes.When I buy a new perfume, it always goes through my head. Wouldn't I rather buy two right away??In case of a reformulation🙂

When MFK first started , the caps were an aluminum type .. can’t remember the exact material it was made of … but the caps were Matt silver and heavy .

The opening is harsh for me on reflets d'ambre. The dry down is pretty good. But I wouldn't recommend it.

While you may be right here (obviously are because I trust your nose!), color isn't such a good indication of composition because coloured molecules are extended conjugated systems often with no smell, representing fractions of a % of an organic composition. Colors can be completely removed with decolorization charcoal, column chromatography, or distillation without affecting the overall weight. In perfumery just look at Roja's Aoud and Aoud Crystal. So always best to use smell rather than color as an indication.

It should be pronounced "goom" like in "loom" - not "gum". Why? Because it was a 120 years anniversary edition for G.U.M. - a historical store in Moscow - something like Harrods or Galeries Lafayette.

Got this in earlier this week and I like it a lot. Smells beautiful in the air. The way you have described Ciel previously, with all the animallics, I have no desire to try that one. I’ll take this toned down version
