MAJID BEKKAS performs an unplugged version of his song 'BALINI' from his 2001 album 'African Gnaoua Blues' in a special Dome session filmed at The House of KOKO.
A major figure in the revival of Gnawi culture for 30 years, Majid Bekkas immerses desert music and its Aqallal and roukba rhythms (at the intersection of Arab-Berber cultures and sub-Saharan Africa) into the deep end of the global sound system of trances. Through a voice imprinted with poetic mysticism and a guembri or a oud of silky and swirling trills, this Moroccan master (with Manuel Hermia - bansouri/sax - & Khalid Kouhen - percussions - ) erects harmonious bridges between jazz and folk-blues and Indian music in a fusion full of spirituality. A bewitching trip to the serene improvisations from the most valuable modern ambassadors of Gnawa music.
