@@tmjel1 Yeah, it's weird. The state legislature and state senate needs to fix (end) Qualified Immunity for bad faith actors and agencies that enter into contractual agreements with citizens and private companies.
If I recall, the timing of the firing was important because Leach's coaching contract had a clause that would roll over on January 1st. It's very likely they rushed the investigation because they could save money if he was fired before the new year.
The fact that Leach is still whining about his money is why Leach got himself fired. A lot of people told him not to sue the school or he'd get fired and he did it anyway. Then he was all shocked when he got fired. Dude is a mess. Also he's fighting over the million dollar bonus he was to receive if he was the coach on Jan 1st. He keeps adding the rest of his salary to the amount because he refuses to accept it unless it includes the bonus. If I were Tech I'd pay him the $1 million just so he'd shut up, but knowing Leach he'd just keep talking about how he was right so there's no point.
Pay the pirate, Tech shot themselves in the ass when they canned this dude. They went from legit #3 in conference to fighting for scraps in the sewer with KU. CJK5H
As I recall, Craig James thought his son was not getting enough playing time and was constantly badgering and threatening Leach. Craig was encouraging Tech to fire Leach and hire Tommy Turberville to replace him. So Kent Hance and Craig James, with the help of Craig's son, created a story to use "as cause" to fire Leach and replace him with Turberville. With that story, Kent Hance, who disliked Leach, fired him the day before the bowl to avoid paying him a multi-million dollar bonus. And then they hired Turberville a few weeks later. Hance tried to force Leach to sign a contract amendment (including an apology) they knew Leach would not agree too and used that as further reason to fire him. Leach had no obligation to sign a contract amendment. Hance, a lawyer and former politician, and his cronies tried to destroy Leach as a result. I support Leach and abhor what Tech did to him. Maybe Leach will still get what he is owed - money and an apology!!!
I get a chuckle out of people who write about this case as if they know what happened yet are totally inaccurate about the facts and clearly don't understand the legal aspects. Some corrections of the most blatantly false points: 1) Craig James never suggested that Tech hire Tommy Tuberville, and he had nothing to do with Tuberville being hired. 2) Kent Hance did not dislike Leach, at least not until Leach cursed him out. Hance very much wanted him to continue coaching, but rightly wasn't going to take insubordination from an employee. 3) Hance did not fire Leach to avoid paying him -- Tech has plenty of money for coaching salaries. Hance fired him because he refused to cooperate with the investigation that Tx Tech HAD to pursue legally due to a serious allegation from a player's parent. Part of that involved Leach refusing to sign a document saying he would follow correct concussion protocol going forward; Leach wouldn't admit he had broken protocol when he clearly had. 4) The document Leach was asked to sign did have a portion that was an apology for not correctly following Texas Tech's concussion protocol. It was not forcing him to apologize for anything he didn't clearly do, nor was it worded in a way that they "knew Leach would not agree to". It was written in a way that anyone reasonable would have signed. 5) While Leach was not obligated to sign a contract amendment, his refusal to acknowledge his mistakes is why he was rightly fired. 6) Leach is a likable guy, but he was legally wrong in the way he handled things which is why Tech took the stance they did. Had they let him off the hook for his refusal to cooperate in a serious investigation it could have caused legitimate lawsuits from other employees who aren't let off the hook in the same situation. I understand you like Coach Leach -- lots of us liked Coach Leach. But being a nice guy and a good coach doesn't give him carte blanche to break policies and be insubordinate. He was also a lawyer and knew he had no legal standing which is why he didn't follow the proper protocol for filing a lawsuit against Tx Tech. He was told by his lawyers and by the court that he could sue Tech if he got proper authorization to bypass Sovereign Immunity, but he chose not to do so (His lawyer advised him not to get the proper authorization because his chances of winning on merit were low, and advised that he would be better off trying to win a PR battle that would get Tx Tech to settle; that's the road he chose to take but he got no settlement.. Even so, the court allowed his case to proceed on it's merits with the caveat that no money would be awarded since he didn't attempt to get proper authorization to sue. The case did indeed go forward and he still lost on merit. The only reason you and some others are mad about it because he's a winning coach; if he had a losing record you wouldn't be on his side or care enough to make up false information.
@@chrisacer6605 - just pure bullshit imho. I followed it closely and read Leaches contract which was public. I also followed the antics of Hance and his use of his political friends in Austin to prevent Leach from enforcing his contract through the courts.
@@BigAlSpeaks You and 50,000 other fans that aren't close to it read his contract and none of you know anything about the law -- you're cheerleading for a coach.
@@chrisacer6605 you do not know me but somehow you assume I don't know anything about the law which automatically drops your credibility to zero. Tech was wrong. Based on my considerable personal exposure to Hance, he was sneaky and deceitful IMHO. If Leach cussed out Kent Hance - he probably deserved it. Tech knew they were wrong, and that is why they took it to Austin, to get political protection.
The Texas Legislature and Texas Senate needs to fix (end) Qualified Immunity for bad faith actors and agencies that enter into contractual agreements with citizens and private companies. ...Transparency and Accountability.
@@OutlawOfCollegeFootball Idk. A Michigan coach calling OSU players soft is motivation. But a coach bad-mouthing the administration from something in the past? I don't see any added motivation.
Well, firing Leach was the worst thing to ever happen to TTU football. If you had to witness the Tommy Tubberville years you’d understand what I’m saying. He does have a habit of saying some abrasive stuff, and I understand that he told the Chancellor of the university to “Get Fu@ked” in a large meeting, and that never plays well. I guess a little of it is on Leach, but who fires a top-end head coach over an issue with a third string tight end who rarely sees the field? I guess TTU does.
Leach has gone too far. I was a student at Tech during his time there and I have always respected him as a coach. Unfortunately, slandering my university for the better part of a decade with no evidence like he did yesterday, I can no longer. He was fired for little to no reason even though the courts have upheld Texas Tech multiple times. Its been more than a decade, let it go Coach.
@@dazirb Tech (Hance. a lawyer and politician, and Craig James)was wrong and Leach was right. Tech moved on because Hance's former political buddies used the Texas legislature to screw Leach out of his contract and what they owed him. They both moved on - but what Tech did to Leach was simply wrong and disgusting and hopefully Leach will find a legal play that will get this resolved in a way that both Tech and Leach can swallow.
They suspended him after it happened until the investigation was completed. He filed a lawsuit against the university to allow him to coach in the bowl game. Tech fired him when they got the lawsuit. If he had been Tech's hc on the 31st he would have received an 800k bonus. He was fired before that date, which I agree was wrong but had nothing to do with his annual salary.
Leach should have never given Adam James a scholarship. He was warned that his dad was a helicopter dad and Adam was a spoiled little brat. That being said, all Leach had to do was apologize to the James family and he refused. When Hance went to try and talk to Leach into doing it, he told him to "GTFO of his office." Not sure about your job, but I know I wouldn't still have one if I told my boss that. Leach's arrogance is what got him fired and that's what he won't accept.
The rumor around the department his first year at Tech was that he got called in and told to stop fucking co-eds or he’d be fired. If true you can drop the Saint Mike act.
Be careful what you ask for, they are just adding wood to the fire in the hearts of the Bama players. I feel sorry for the beat down Cincinnati is going to receive, but they asked for it.
Leach needs to be careful bringing up the past especially sexual assault allegations anyone remember art briles Baylor football coach he forever stained by that scandal. Leach needs to move on coach football at Mississippi state. What happened to Leach at Texas tech was politics u can't fight cityhall so just move on down the road.
Why should he? Isn't it Texas Tech that should be incentivized to put this behind them? Any good coach that is considering coaching at Tech needs to think twice because of this.
Lol. He was a lawyer before he coached football. Think about how DUMB youd have to be (tech leadership) to wrongfully fire the ONLY COACH IN FOOTBALL who is also trained as a lawyer. 🤣🤣
Leach is a good coach, we did well with him but he developed a God Complex . Leach would not have taken from the players what he did to the Chancellor. They had a solution, Leach refused it. In the end, Leach can't run the University.
Universities should be very careful letting ESPN or the woke crowd influence a school fire a coach before all the evidence is brought forth. The Universities may get a far more inferior coach and a losing record. KSU do you regret getting rid of Frank Martin?
@@cllintdevena7712 I agree with the first part, but my understanding of the Frank Martin departure is much different. He made that bed by his treatment of the players and when he figured out that many good players were planning to leave the program, he bolted. Did you hear a different story?
I was at Tech while Leach was our coach. I liked Leach but calling him a great coach is comical. His high scoring offense didn’t mean much when his defense was giving up more points than the offense scored. So, yeah, he didn’t seem great at the time.
Lol… bro, who is your source? I don’t know one Tech fan that wants Leach back. He didn’t do much for Tech. As a student at Tech our football games weren’t that much fun. It’s only fun when you’re winning.
Adam James needed to be locked in a closet as do many of the current day entitled athletes. However, nobody is left in tech administration that had anything to do with it. I feel for current players and administration. Leach was great here at tech and great offensive mind but make no mistake, he is also a pirate!😂🤣😂
Mike is not a community builder. His players do not love him and he has not kept up with how the game has changed. MSU fans should be happy their coach is so focused on destroying a program he worked for 12 years ago instead of focusing on MSU football.
Hated to see Leach go it was the stupidest thing the administration could have done, Tech's record since then is evidence of that. I think Tech should pay Leach all that is owed him. I'm surprised MS didn't want this game it has ratings written all over it, so glad after seeing this press conference that Tech won in such a convincing manner.
Let’s not forget that Craig James was also in the center of the controversy that ended up getting SMU the death penalty. Chaos and Mayhem follows Craig James wherever he goes. That’s why he is one of the least liked individuals in the state.
I thought this was settled when the Texas Supreme Court refused Leach's appeal. Tech was absolutely wrong in this firing. They should have paid Leach back when.
@@sarahmccoy1941 yeah well Leaches personality may have effected that lol. But he almost took Tech to the national championship which is beyond impressive given what he was working with.
As a Tech grad I have always loved Leach even though he was gone before I ever got to school there. And I dislike Ken Hance, and Craig James and his spoiled son, but he went a step too far with his language. No need to bring all that into things. Happy we wrecked State tho, the pirate curse is broken lol
Most people in Lubbock believe Mike Leach. The so-called athletic director was a bitter, flawed (jealous) demigod and a guy who was far more a politician than a real lawyer are generally viewed with disdain. From a TTU fan viewpoint, you had the perfect coach for a school than cannot match the Oklahoma and UT Austin recruiting. The so-called athletic director & politician leaped at a chance to get rid of the guy they didn’t like.
It was the Chancellor and President more so than Myers. Should Tech pay Leach any more than they already have? I don't know, but I do know that Leach should have actually coached MSU in the Liberty Bowl.
This is all a lot funnier after the bowl game. I don't think Leach's money rants will get as much attention after being spanked by Tech 34-7 with a decimated interim coaching staff. Good-bye Leach, hello Joey McGuire!
First off…Wreck Em!! Next, I challenge any of you to go and tell your bosses to “F” off…and let’s just see what happens. If that doesn’t get you canned, go and bring legal action against them. Mike (and maybe Craig James) is the only real “sleezy and slimy” character in this story.
Wish you would have titled this Leach Makes Allegations Against Texas Tech, so we would know it was nothing new and not some major NCAA thing. I wouldn't have bothered starting this video had I known that.
You must be a big fan of Mike Leach's then because he makes $5 million/yr now. He's making a killing while Texas Tech football has been in the shitter ever since.
Lifelong Tech fan here. Rooting for Leach and State though. Tech "leadership" screwed up. AD at the time was former Tech BB coach who couldn't stand the coach and football program taking the spotlight.
Listen to the video where mr.leach uses nothing but vulgar speech while addressing those he is speaking to in the video; in my estimation, he is the lowest form of humanity and I feel nothing for him or his legal standing and have no respect for mr. leach whatsoever!
I have twice - 2015 and 2019. To be honest, I didn’t have a great experience at either. I’ve talked at length about it before. Very nice people involved with the bowl, but that press box is the worst that I’ve ever experienced in ten years of covering all K-State home and road games. The stadium isn’t great. It was cold and rainy both times I went. Just not a very good experience overall.
When was the last time that the Liberty Bowl had a matchup that created as much interest as this one has? I've watched the Liberty Bowl since about 1966, and I'll bet I can count on one hand the number of scintillating matchups it has had.
As a real Tech fan, I was initially on Coach Leach's side. The University did him dirty, very dirty. But, it's been 12 years, it's time to move on. That era of President, Chancellor and A.D
'the action or crime of making a false spoken statement damaging to a person's reputation. "he is suing the TV network for slander"' What exactly makes it slander? They DID fire him unjustly. They DIDNT pay him.
Also...guess when you have the amount of money to pay for legal fees for 12+ years...hell he has probably already burnt more money than the $2.5 Million he thinks he is owed....LOL (and hell I am a Leach fan!!!)
Well, he doesn't have a paltry Texas Tech salary anymore. He makes $5 million/yr so he can literally just keep throwing money at this thing forever with no Fs given.
@@jesses5463 yeah I don't understand why they don't pay their football coaches more. Chris beard was the third highest paid basketball coach at tech and made more than leach makes now at Mississippi state
