Sorry to hear about your truck. We had some major truck repair after a trip to New Mexico! It’s not fun! Hope everything holds so you can continue on to your next destination.
It could be worse. I had a 2008 F-250 with the 6.4l diesel engine. Even though maintained by the book it dropped a lifter with less than 150k miles (low for a diesel) on it. They wanted $15k to fix it, so I sold it for salvage. I was just about to go FT when this happened. I hadn't even bought my FT trailer yet, so I had a change of plans and bought a gas powered MH instead. That's been 4 yrs ago and I haven't had a bit of problems with the drive train so far. I bought it with 28k miles and after 4 yrs FT use I've only got about 47k miles on it now. But when it does break, I can replace the entire V-10 gas engine for $5k. Good luck to ya'll!
just curious, did you guys ever had flat or blown tire and how did you change it? I cannot find any video on where to jack up the trailer with only 1 axle. thanks
I'm sorry to see this, did you not get warranty with the truck? Fords factory warranty is really good, and they can extend it as far as 7 years and you are covered all through NA
Unfortunately I was well past factory warranty mileage when this happened. I bought the truck used at 70k km and this issue happened at around 165k km. They did have a recall for this issue but there were also mileage conditions which I was also past. So no coverage for me 😭
Sorry to hear about your engine troubles, that sucks. It doesn’t take long though for the vultures to come out and start trashing any make of vehicle they don’t own. The Toyota fanboys would like you to believe that a Toyota never breaks down. Hah! What they don’t tell you is you would have gone broke putting gas into a Toyota truck with a 5.7 litre engine. I’m sure the service techs advised you on routine maintenance. If not, change your motor oil every 8000 kms (max) and use a full synthetic. Maybe you already adhered to this strict interval. Good luck and safe travels….
You should have stayed with Toyota and bought a Tundra. Still better quality than American trucks and their engines go much farther before problems result. My Tacoma is at 140K miles with no problems so far.
Yeah I should’ve just gotten a tundra! Stupid me wanting to save on gas money by getting an ecoboost because at the time, Tundra only had v8. In the end I paid big anyway lol
Btw Love the content. Wife and I are about to purchase a Jayco Micro 199mbs for our family to travel around a bit during the summers and go down south during the winter with our kids.
Just found your channel and hoping your future adventures are better. Love that you have taken your puppies with you so they also can enjoy the adventure. There are problems with all manufactures, fokes just want to admit it, keep the faith brother and enjoy.
Those EcoBoost's also have timing chain stretch issues. Those engines are the worst about that. A lot of them I've heard about in the past had that same noise on startup.
Great video! Very awesome looking canyon. Never knew of this issue with the F150's. From what I just read and researched the VCT phasers failure issues are more common on the 3.5's than the other engines but Ford supposedly has revised the phasers with the 2021 F150 models and are not having the problem as the previous years.
Thanks for watching! Yes I believe they swapped out my phasers for the updated part. They said it comes with a 2 year warranty with unlimited miles so hopefully it holds up! We still have a long way to go on our journey
I had the choice between a v8 and the 3.5 when I was searching for this truck. Would’ve been the same price and they both had same mileage. Maybe I made the wrong choice haha… although the 3.5 is a fair amount better on gas when not towing
Had a 2016 f150 xlt towing our 166, rear diff failed in Colorado. Third major issue with this truck, third Ford f150, 2010,2014, and now 2016 with major issues. We were told 30 days for repair. We had three Rams two 1/2 ton and one 3/4 ton diesel no issues, couldnt find any we wanted, really wanted Toyota Tundra but no chance finding one. Traded this latest Ford for 22 GMC Elevation with the 2.7 I4 turbo, 310 hp, 430lbs torque. Better power, mpg and comfort. So far so good.
Damn! You’ve had some bad luck with fords for sure. I am definitely considering different options for the future after we are back home from our journey…
@@LetsJustGoTravel well we travel for my wife's work, I'm retired and she is a Emergency Room Nurse Practitioner, and covers critical access er's in rual Kansas and Colorado. So we tow to those locations not to include our fun trips. She likes to stay in the camper while on call instead of the provider room, we can have our three dogs and the foods better lol. I'll keep you posted on how the GMC does with this 2.7 I4 turbo. So far so good. Good luck on your travels.
Welcome to NM! We're in ABQ and have the Open Range 16FBS. Nearly the same as yours. Looking forward to seeing where you visit in southern NM. Enjoying your channel!
Thanks for watching! I’ve seen the open range 16fbs they look good! They included some good features like under couch storage straight from the factory. We had to mod that ourselves to get it
Wow! What an aggravation! And in San Lorenzo Canyon, too. Dottie and I lived south of there in Socorro NM for a long time, so we're quite familiar with the place. It's a popular picnic and hiking area for locals. It's too bad the Ford Dealership in Socorro folded its tents years ago. They were good people. Glad Chalmers got you fixed up. San Lorenzo Canyon is not a good place if thunderstorms are coming through. That "road" you were on is mostly in the bottom of an arroyo (basically, a stream bed). I've seen that thing flood and run bank full many times. Please be careful where you camp. Hate to see something happen to such a nice couple. Safe travels! Bob and Dottie
It was an adventure for sure! And Chalmer’s definitely saved us :) if you watch our next episode you’ll see that we did get stuck in a flood but we made it out ok. Thanks for watching!
@@LetsJustGoTravelWe were looking into trading for a Tundra, but have been hearing from various folks that they’re still working bugs out of the Tundras and we’re better off just keeping our Tacoma another year or two.
Aaaand THAT is why I have a Tacoma. Every Ford and Chevy I’ve ever owned needed major repairs around 100K miles. I just pulled my 166FBS on a 6,000 mile roadie with my Tacoma with absolutely zero problems.
Yes I often miss our Tacoma haha! But was worried about towing across all of North America with a truck that was constantly overloaded… our cargo capacity in the Tacoma was only 950lbs which left very little for gear once the trailer was hitched. But it was a beast ! Glad it’s working for ya
